Wonderful! Truly a delightful stay, food and friendly staff the two highlights. What a treat! A 9-course Vegetarian menu ( like Michelin star standard). Buddhist vegetarian cuisine. Room is clean, spacious and sleeping on the floor is the Japanese style. Morning 6am sutra with the monks was an experience, but we didn’t actually get any time with the monks, so don’t expect too much of that. Staff were so friendly and nothing too much trouble Onsen is empty and overlooks woodland. I loved my time here!! Some tips for Koya San; - go on the night walk tour of the graveyard. - attend the Goma fire ritual, a key practice in Esoteric Buddhism, Ekoin Temple.

We had a truly unforgettable stay at Souji-in. From the peaceful atmosphere to the deep spiritual energy of the place, everything felt special. Participating in the evening and morning meditations with the monks made us feel connected to something timeless and sacred. A very special thank you to Patrick, who guided us through a beautiful meditation and an unforgettable night tour of the temples — it was a deeply moving experience. The entire stay was seamless and thoughtful. Walking through Koyasan with almost no tourists made it even more magical. The meals — both dinner and breakfast — were Michelin-level in quality. We are deeply grateful and would highly recommend Souji-in to anyone seeking something truly meaningful

An amazing temple stay experience! It’s very peaceful, the service(in English) is excellent, and the vegetarian meals are delicious. There are morning prayers and meditation sessions every day that you can join. It’s also close to the main sights in Koyasan, and if you don’t feel like walking, you can take the bus.

For the price, this was a really average stay. The staff were average, as well as the food. The staff were friendly but they didn’t feel genuine. The Temple itself is very beautiful. The rooms are large, however the floor mattresses are completely worn out so you can actually feel the hard floor beneath you. I’ve stayed in a Ryokan before and their mattresses were still soft and comfortable so this Temples mattresses are definitely in need of an upgrade. Would I come here again? Probably not.

The staff at the accommodation were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The English-speaking staff guided us around the facilities and thoroughly explained the rules. Despite the curfew at 9 PM, we were allowed to return later using an alternate door. Dinner was superb and delicious, with a variety of vegan dishes offered. It's a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate.

Staying at this Buddhist temple hotel really is a special experience. Located right at the heart of Mount Koya, Souji-in provides guests with a privileged insight into the lives of the monks who reside and work here. Entirely authentic and traditional, you will be welcomed in to experience the monks’ prayer ceremonies in the temple, as well as enjoy the exquisite vegan meals served by the monks. Rooms are Japanese style, offering guests complete immersion into this beautiful culture and the country’s everyday way of life. Ensure you admire the stunning gardens and take time to relax on the sun terrace too. For a truly unique and rare experience, Souji-in is not one to miss.
