We visited Souk el Tayeb in Beirut on a Saturday morning, and the weather was beautiful. The market has plenty of stands both indoors and outdoors, and there’s even a small playground for kids, which is a nice touch. You’ll find a wide variety of healthy and artisanal products, though many of them are on the pricey side. I do hope the items are properly vetted, because it can sometimes be difficult to judge whether what’s advertised truly matches the product.
There are several food stands as well. We were planning to get a man2oushe, but the woman preparing it wasn’t wearing gloves. She was kneading the dough with both hands and flattening it directly, and I wasn’t sure if that met acceptable hygiene standards, so we decided not to eat.
Overall, it’s a pleasant place to explore and pick up some healthy items, but be prepared to pay a premium.
