So, I was in the mood for turkey wings. A friend told me about it and on the way home I wanted to check it out. I live about an hour away from this establishment and I must say, I will never be back again. This is not something you serve to a customer. It’s clear that the food is not done and I am super disappointed.

Everything is always good here. The vibe, the staff and even the people waiting sit patiently knowing what they came for. My favs include the thick homestyle macaroni and cheese, the collard greens, steak fish, fried catfish and fried flounder. My favorite appetizer includes their crab sticks they are seasoned to perfection and fried hard enough to crunch but not hot enough to burn my mouth. I really appreciate the small extra miles the staff goes to ensure you return. Ask them to punch a hole in your giant half and half, they have scissors waiting at your request. Ask they to punch holes in your containers to prevent sogginess, they consider the request without a second thought. I’ve been coming here since I was a child, I’m 25 now and no longer live in the area. But whenever I can, I definitely don’t hesitate to grab a plate! This was one of my birthday plates.

The service was very good. And yes I would go back again. I would recommend this establishment if they are looking for good soul food. I had whiting with sweet potatoes, green beans and cornbread. Everything was great.

This spot was amazing! My husband had the barbecue sauce oxtail with potato salad and collard greens and I ordered the pork chops with mac and cheese, cabbage and crinkle cut fries. I told him this spot is now my new comfort food joint🤗. Will definitely be returning! Service and their prices are great as well!

The turkey wings lacked flavor the overall meal lacked flavor it was barely seasoned the rice was mushy and overcooked the greens tasted caned like they just opened them and put in a pot. The macaroni had potential to be good if it was seasoned well and not left sitting. The cornbread taste stale. The cake was not moist but the icing was good. The yams are okay but could have a more of a cinnamon flavor. The turkey wings were tough and not tender. Over flavor could have been better.

I should have read the reviews first. I always pass this place in the shopping center, and it is always packed. i wish I would have kept passing this place by the food. It is disgusting outrageous prices for horrible food. Don't waste your money they are rude and disrespectful, very unprofessional they have the nerve to call box macaroni soul food. Black folks do better. Why do we let them sell this mess to us

I got the grilled salmon today and let's just say it was disgusting. I'm not sure if the fish was bad or they just didn't season it I'm not sure!! The sweet potatoes taste like it came out of can not fresh I'm not sure what's going on with this establishment it hasn't been the same the last few times I came! Even fried flounder was so dried and overcooked a waste of 30 something dollars today

The constant and steady stream of customers had me fooled so I expected the food to be amazing but not so much. I don't care for mashed sweet potato salad, I thought I was going to lose my teeth of the hard and rubbery chicken gizzards. The "peach cobbler" was inedible because of the weird chemical taste and watery peach-flavored syrup. I asked for a catfish nugget sandwich and was given something else. The french 🍟 were just mediocre. I came with friends and they complained about the bland food. It's located in a busy shopping center and there are only seating while you wait--no tables. Take away orders only. This was Asian people make their interpretation of soul food. Sorry not sorry. I won't be back.

It started with the customer service team for me, very welcoming atmosphere, service exceptional, I never had a bad experience with the food or customer service. Just for the record for dessert that lemon cake HMMMMMMM!! HMMM!!! HMMMM !!! GUUUUUDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!

The worst tasting food ever!!!!!!! This is not soul food. I'm so disappointed. Especially after paying over $40 for the turkey wing dinner, fried whiting with missing French fries, turkey wing dinner with collard greens, banana pudding & potato salad. Everything thing was tasteless. The potato salad was grainy. My husband said the fish wasn't fresh. I had to put hot sauce on everything. The only thing that was delicious was the half/half iced tea. We ate little of everything & Saved the rest for today, Not eating, I'm going to trash it. I want a refund. Me & my neighbor drove all the way from Baltimore City on a high recommendation from her boss. She hated all her food too and will do a write up. I should've know when I walked into the establishment and saw Asian people running the joint, I was shocked. I said to my friend, where is the Black people? Asians can't cook soul food. But we said let's try it. The place was busy as hell. After eating this food for the first time, I will never go back. After all this, I said to my friend, do all these people like this food? SMDH!!! I've been to a lot of Soul food restaurants and never, ever have I seen Asian folks running it, much less cooking soul food. Only in Bmore!!!

Very very small lake trout they don't take the skin off the steak fish vegetables are just OK price very reasonable

I have only had the food through doordash and But never ate at the actual restaurant. The food is FABULOUS everytime!! The price is reasonable especially for doorsash. Just an all around treat.

Macaroni from a box Yam were plain and not an ounce of "soul" Catfish was watered down like it was frozen in water. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

My father heart (R.I.H.) introduced us to this place as he loved it. It's owned by Koreans I believe and they know what they're doing for the most part. Food portions and taste are great. With allergies and all, season your own food by asking for what you want. Staff is cordial and they understand the words coming out of your mouth. The place is clean and well placed. They have been a staple since the early 2000s I believe. Yes I recommend and I've had almost everything. Ask for what you want.

This is usally my go to restaurant but the prices they have on Grubhub are outrageous. The price is so high I have to stop ordering from there.

Decided to grab some quick to eat and stumbled upon this place and it ended up being pretty damn good! I got the 12 boiled shrimp with Mac and cheese, black eyed peas, and cornbread. I would definitely come back! Definitely worth the check out.

I ordered from Soul Boat through DoorDash for dinner for both myself and my two sons on one of the many nights I didn't feel like cooking dinner. The advertised Family Meal A, which came with three sides, drumsticks or wings alongside your choice of fish which included flounder, lake trout or whiting. I opted for the chicken wings, fried flounder, macaroni and cheese, cabbage and candied yams. The meal cost a little over $52, which, i hindsight; was quite and expensive meal for three people. The food was good, but not really worth the amount the changed for it. I probably would have spent less money if I had simply just ordered each of us separate meals.

The pricing is not bad but the fish and chicken are very greasy. Of course fried food is greasy but some places the grease does not stick to the food. I think if they increase the cooking tempature and add more seasoning they would be better. The fríes are very good. I think they are pre seasoned so they cannot miss that up....I do not plan to return. Much better carryouts around

I haven't done 2 much eating out n awhile but I was craving some peach cobbler so I got some from here lord have mercy idk who's eating that peach cobbler from here but I was very disappointed & i will nvr go back again 2 eat anything all the cobbler had n it was wet crust & 3 peaches 3 damn peaches crust was nasty whole thing was nasty

Fish was fresh and generous portions. Ordered online and ready when I got there to pick it up.

I need my people to do better. I walked in there, and it smelled like straight FISH, like in a bad way. Like the fish has just been sitting out all day long and you're walking through a fish market of rotten fish. What makes me so sad it's the majority of their clientele from what I seen are black people who love their soul food and their grease but it's no soul in that establishment. How do you walk in there and order your food, or pick up your food and that smell existing the second you step foot in this place is that smell that I smelled. I haven't seen any black people in the kitchen and these people are just serve the community freezer burnt food cooked in old grease. They're tryna kill us! Do not order from them. Please we need better staples in our community and this certainly isn't one of them!

I wish I'd take a picture. Don't waste your time or money on this place. I ordered a 5 piece shrimp appetizer. The shrimp tasted like it had been frozen for a very long time. It has no taste and the breading was soggy. I will NEVER return.

I always have the Cat dinner. It is my all time favorite! I have tried other places but I always return to Soul Boat!

This Half n' half is it right here! This drink is what the drive is all about! It will surely wet your whistle! My appetite is low, but I always stop for Tea. Be mindful that the container may be sticky at times. I always ask for a bag; it will keep your hands sticky-free. When you visit, you will see these Half n' half drinks in the fridge. Ask for one with no ice; those are behind the counter. Drink how you drink, but I encourage you to take a seat, if only for a moment. You're welcome! Tasty food! Wish you could order more entree w/o fries or other sides at a reasonable price. I don't eat fries and hate to throw away food.

Based on the previous reviews, there may be inconsistent cooking going on in the Soul Boat. I happened to stumble upon this place. There was a lot of foot traffic, so that put me at ease. Seems that everyone LOVES what appeared to be house sweet tea-but NOT sure what it was. My food was delicious. I enjoy soul food, but I do not indulge in it all of the time, as much as I would like. Including cooking it. Catfish was delish! Plentiful portions. Chicken wings were also pleasing. Honey bbq drummettes were tasty. Cornbread was pretty good. Black eyed peas were very good. Collard greens were very tasty. Not overcooked! I love flavor & did not have to salt anything. I would return, hoping to not be disappointed. Ppl say their yams are good, but no one can top my candied yams lol. Compared to 2 soul food restaurants that I've reviewed, Soul Boat tops them. But other than that, I do look forward to returning.

1/6/24 9:30 pm: If you like jail food, go ahead. If you've never been to jail, don't go. I got the smothered turkey wings, lima beans and yams. The "gravy" looked and tasted like it was stocked in a can for several years too long and that's the can they decided to grab that day. It was thick and gelatinous. The lima beans were dry, crunchy and the size of 50 cent pieces. The yams were made by somebody who just needs to be reassigned to another duty. They tasted like vanilla and salt. While the cashier was polite (who wouldn't be if you are the one taking the money?) They got the name right: Soul Boat. However, the soul they are talking about arrived from a place that I'm not ever trying to go. Save your money, tastebuds and gag reflexes from the disappointment. Spend another 5 minutes searching elsewhere.

Highway robbery cabbage not seasoned string beans not seasoned oxtails thin as paper sweet potatoes not sweet. I would not recommend this place.

Food is always good here. Catfish, catfish nuggets, and ox tail in gravy have been delicious. And their half n half is very sweet .

This was the first time that we tried Soul boat. After hearing that the food was good from a friend we were excited to try. The Good, you will get large portions for your money. Now the bad, I don't know if it was a bad day or what but I was disappointed with my order. The turkey wings seemed to be boiled and not baked. Also, it needed to be cooked a little longer. You can also tell they just poured the gravy on top instead of baking it with the turkey wing. The greens had a bit too much vinegar. The best was the macaroni and cheese. I'm hoping that this was a fluke and will try ordering atleast one more time. Fingers crossed!

I've worked in the area for years and still remember the grand opening of this place and it has somewhat declined over the years. The food is decent and sometimes hit or miss. I usually stick to chicken entrees as I'm not a big seafood eater. Great portions overall. Also lot of people love the half & half but it's too sweet for me personally.

Mac and cheese was really good, yams could've been a little better. The fish was disgustingly greasy.

I ordered a "Catfish Nugget Sandwich" with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. When I arrived I was handed a plastic container with 5 pieces of catfish. I was then handed two slices of white bread wrapped in plastic wrap. When I asked about the toppings the cashier responded "we don't do that." I asked if I could have some lettuce and tomato and was told "we don't have that." I pointed out that they offer salads on the menu, and asked if I could have some lettuce and tomato that they use for the salads and was again told no. I did get a packet of Mayo. I got out to my vehicle to make my sandwich to find that the mayonnaise packet was very expired. The Mayo came out yellow and gelatinous. Not only was I refused ingredients that they have on the premises, but they don't even put the sandwich together. If I wanted to make my own sandwich I would have, for a lot cheaper.

The vegetables are disgusting. Sting beans are not cooked straight from the can. Collard greens have a wield taste. Cabbage is tasteless. I've tried the veggies more than once with the hope that they would taste better, but they tasted disgusting every time. i used to like the lake trout, but that is starting to be tasteless too. I won't be going back for awhile.

Absolutely terrible food ( September 20,2020 at 1pm ). This place was recommended to me and I thought, why not support the local businesses. Wellllllll, the P30 meal ( fish and wings) and the P16 ( Scallops, Fish Nuggets ) were reheated food from Saturday night! After having eaten reheated chicken wings, fish and other food over the years,you know how it looks and tastes. Its obvious the Covid pandemic has caused them to forgo FRESH seafood and save money..Come on mannnnnnn !! The person who recommended them to me was highly disappointed since I bought her two meals for her family...$39 in the trash! I am trying to support local businesses and do my part,however I need to just cook myself and save the money . This makes them 0-2, you don't get a 3rd chance Soul Boat! Lesson Learned. The sides have no flavor and they don't fry your fish hard. It's as if they just let it sit in grease after it's fried. They prices are higher than most places that have better food. The only thing people talk about is their Half and half and the cornbread which is good too. Anything else is a toss up honestly.

I came here for lunch today even though I've been here many times. I like their Catfish with Potatoe Salad, Collard Greens and Sweet Cornbread. I also got the Crabsticks I wasn't fond of them. But everything else was delicious. Fast courteous service too.

I ordered the family meal fish and chicken drums with mac and cheese, cabbage, and rice with gravy. It was alot of food but it definitely sent me to the bathroom and ive been a sick all day. Idk if its related to the water issues on that side of town. The mac and cheese was pretty goodZ the cabbage, fish, and chicken were unseasoned. The rice and gravy was also very bland.

Wanted to check this place and now is the time. Fresh fish is on the line. No strong fishy odor. Great tasting collard greens my wife notes a sweet light taste to balance out the acid in the greens. The lima beans were my favorite but I love limas. Serving sizes were good my olny complant is the fried fish was smaller and thin. No wonder that it was cooked in record time Impression: I will come back again for the limas and they have steak fish too. I'll be back!

They get a 4 out of 5 for me simply based off of soul food restaurants in general. In my experiences I have some pretty good ones and pretty bad ones, but even the pretty good ones can't compare to my family's home cooked soul food lol (I think a lot of us feel this way) but my family is full of chef's and cooking is a passion of theirs. Idk what it is about soulful restaurants lacking seasoning a lot of the time (especially us black folk) but I thought maybe it's because it is a restaurant and you have to sensitive to people's food allergies or food sensitivity's meaning you probably can't put your foot in it like you do at home lol. Most soul food restaurants I've experienced, it's either the main dish (the meat) is good and the sides or bland or sometime even the other way around. Then there are times where it's just not it alt all.. Soul boat exceeded my expectations a bit, since moving here from Cali I haven't really experienced much good food in general... (but I know there's a lot that I'm missing) I got the catfish nuggets (1lb) Candied Yams, Collard greens, rice and gravy and Mac N cheese. When my food first arrive I was nervous bc it smelled like straight FISH.... Thought they might've sent me a bad batch lol but once I opened it up and examined I was in the clear.. I was even impressed even with how it looked in the to go box plate. The banana pudding however was NOT my favorite... too yellow, too many bananas.... (Ok the too many bananas part is silly but that's just me) the yellow cream though disgust me when it comes to banana pudding... I'm more use to a more whipped creamed pudding... this place called "the Carribean spot" has AMAZING TO DIE FOR banana pudding! Omg... I was hoping to get that same greatness with soul boat but it just looks, feels and taste store bought The half and half tho?!!! BOMB!! Omg and they give you PLENTY in a "to go" cup, I was very pleased. I was craving soul food badly and I looked up a couple places like "Georgia Peach" (they had an actual picture of their bands pudding and it LOOKED perfected! Just how I like it... but they foolishly do not offer drinks or dessert with "online ordering"... how silly. So that led me over here to Soul Boat (my main pursuit was really banana pudding) and when I seen they offered it I took a chance. Took a chance meaning they didn't have any pictures of it so I gambled my luck and failed! I really like the fish,it is cooked perfectly.banana pudding is fresh and flavorful. I get my food delivered and I will say this,when I get the food, it's still hot!!!!Now that is great service. I would like to try different things but that fish is just too good!!!

Food is very , very good. But I ordered the half pound of Catfish Nuggets with the one side and I should have looked before I left the store but I didn't. Was like 6 nuggets. Had more on side dish then on my Plate. No way that was a Half of Pound but was still good.

This is a BAD version of Hip-hop chicken. Can u imagine wings smaller than hiphops? Without the seasoning! Fish was done but not crispy at all. Sides were ok at best. Never again for me.

Absolutely love their fried chicken. We've order ahead of time for gatherings and it comes freshly made when we pick it up. Highly recommend this place. I have yet to try other items on their menu but will in due time. I'll post a picture the next time I order chicken.

Impulsive decision to eat here because it was the closest to no fast food chains. Worst decision ever though. Food was too greasy and smelly to even eat. The half/half is the only thing worth ordering. I won't be back ever.

Blah! The fish was over fried and tasteless. The french fries were delicious and the cabbage was only so-so. Portion size was reasonable but I don't believe I will try them again. The employees were capable and courteous but there was no order on the Friday night my husband and I placed a pick-up order...very disorganized and far too crowded for these early post-covid times in my opinion anyway.

The food is really good and fresh not frozen. It's a small place; just enough space to order Your food and leave. I would order my food before I get there if I where you.

Food is always delicious. My favorite is the fried flounder fish, it's definitely a 5 out of 5 star entree. My husband tried the honey mustard wings, he gave it a 3 out of 5 stars, just okay. Will definitely revisit Soul Boat.

I am just at a loss the fact that it's soul food Ran and cooked by Chinese people not that it's not possible I just have yet to see it if they not a top chief ‍. For the pictures I'd would not waste my money on the sides it looks like the fish wheels you in but No thanks I'll pass no better that the spot across from them that's Ran by Spanish people and they cook the food awful and I mean that in a nice way trash can ready NOT THE KIND OF SOUL FOOD I WAS BROUGHT UP ON IN NO WAY I WILL NOT WASTE MY MONEY Wendy's would be better so for me no stars thank god I paid attention and didn't waste my money hunny

I don't know what these other reviewers were talking about! I would never recommend this place. And I'll tell you why by first pointing out the warning signs. This is a "Soul Food" spot but it's ran by Asians. You don't smell the food as they cook it; and y'all know if you making real soul food, you gonna smell them greens and fried chicken. My greens tasted like canned food with more vinegar than flavor. My fish was cooked to perfection but in the wrong batter with no seasoning. The black eyed peas were drained from prolly water cause it had no flavor and wasn't even cooked all the way! I ordered the fried chicken for my daughter. Now I know that wings are considered "white meat" but those wings looked beat up from how dark the meat and crust were. Lastly the fried are just as bad as McDonald's. So don't bother wasting your money to be disappointed here. I have 2 stars because it was clean, the food was presented well and hot but the food does not match up to be called soul food.

I really liked this place. My wife got the baked chicken over rice smothered in gravy with a side of Mac and cheese and string beans. It tasted amazing! I got the 6 piece fried whiting which was also amazing! I look forward to trying their pork chops and the turkey wings w/gravy as well.

Fried fish and Fried Chicken are really good. Potato salad and greens are pretty good as well. You may want to call ahead as there is always a wait, but overall good value and tasty.

This place is horrible. I ordered fish and a small side if cabbage from this place and the grease draining off the fish was deep dark brown. I hadn't notice until I arrived to my next destination. I called the store and the lady working the counter confirmed the grease was dirty, saying it's last day grease. She offered me a refund but I was already in Columbia. I ate the cabbage and after about 7 to 8 hours I cannot stop puking and running to the bathroom. I am certain I have some sort of food poisoning. I don't know what I expected from a whole in the wall but I will never eat at this page again and I would t recommend it to anyone else.

The first time I had them I put in a mobile order for pick up. Once we got there it took over an hour to get our food and the said is was because they were waiting on a breast, y'all this was the littlest breast I ever seen in my life. BUT the food was really good. Now the reason why they get 3 stars is because we had them two more times and the consistency is in the trash. The chicken wasn't crispy at all and bland as hell. The sides are the only thing that was consistent and to me the string beans were way to salty. The third time chicken was salty but not fried well it's like it was a rush job. I'm honestly done and won't go here I'm better off just frying my chicken in the air fryer myself.

I haven't short ribs this good in years...it's the only main dish that I can review because in the 3 times I've been here, it's the only main dish that I've had...because it's that good!

The food is delicious. I ordered a mac n' cheese, gravy with rice, and some fried fish. The mac n' cheese and rice was perfectly seasoned (not to salty), and the fish was well- fried. The seasoning is perfect and I would definitely revisit this place. It is exactly what you call soul food. Also, the place is really clean. I would definitely recommend the flounder or lake trout. Soul Boat deserves five stars.
