The quality of the food is undoubtedly really really good, although massively overpriced. I don’t mind the concept of ‘small plates’, but a small plate has to come at a smaller price. The quantity for the price just isn’t appropriate and the quality of the food didn’t justify such an inflated cost, there are plenty of restaurants in St Ives (see St Eia just down the road or Porthminster Beach Cafe) serving quality food at a similar price point, but with a serving size that won’t result in you going hungry.
Service was ok, but was difficult to hear our server due to the loud music, not too much of a complaint, I thought the music was actually quite nice and added to the atmosphere. The way the food is served might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s sharing plates, but they come out seemingly randomly, with sometimes large gaps between dishes, at this price point I’d expect a bit more thought behind this, it feels lazy and cheap, like Wagamamas.
I thought the atmosphere was great, small, intimate, the chef comes out and serves the plates personally, the place has a really nice feel to it. The door was propped open which meant there was a bit of a draft and staff were more than accommodating when we asked them to close it.
TLDR; Good food, stupidly overpriced, tiny portions, good atmosphere, friendly staff.
