Once the Bastion of grassroots performing arts in the Bend, SBCT seems to have lost its way over the last couple of years. The shows have gotten safer, while the ticket prices no longer reflect the economic realities of the 2011 Midwest. This is contrary to the Theatre's 30-year history of bringing affordable, mind-blowing Art to the community that supports it, but is hopefully just a symptom of growing pains and the recent loss of their founding father and former Executive Director.
However, and most importantly, the most talented and dedicated Theatre geeks in all of north-central Indiana give voluntarily of their time, blood and tears to keep this community treasure alive. If you catch the right production, you surely will be moved-- not only by the onstage goings-on, but by the passion of the volunteers as well.
