My 2021 and 2022 Favorite Vegas Resort.
I would like to write my belated #ThankYouThursday review on the South Point. I am very thankful to the South Point for giving the locals and tourists a real Las Vegas experience where people feel like they are stepping into what the real Entertainment Capital of the world instead of some has been casino that has cut out all the things that have made it special and resorted to nickel and dining.
The South Point is currently my favorite hotel and casino. Unlike the competitors who have sold out by getting rid of the buffets and other amenities because they cannot stand to have a loss leader that brings people in, the South Point is the only local's resort to offer a buffet. It is the Garden Buffet. It is the Garden Buffet that has diverted a lot of my visits from nearby competitors including Green Valley Ranch, Sunset Station, the Silverton, The M, and the Orleans. From 2011 to 2021, I must have had three check-ins here. Since late 2021 my check-ins increased by 37. The South Point had much more to offer than the Garden Buffet that I plan to soon write an updated review on that will bring it to 4 Stars.
I am very big on safety. When I visit a resort I expect to see a lot of cameras in the parking lot. When I do not see them it tells me that that property could care less about their customer's safety. At the South Point parking structure and parking lot, I see plenty of cameras.
When it comes to eating the South Point offers plenty of restaurants that are affordable. And good. In my opinion, their Del Marr Deli is the best sports book restaurant in Las Vegas. I believe that they are still owned by the Bagel Cafe. From experience, their bagel sandwiches are the bomb. The Coronado Cafe provides 24 Hour dining with the old school Las Vegas late night specials. Their Steak & Shake has a Happy hour ice cream shake special. They have a well known hot dog stand. There is a Starbucks that was formerly the last Seattle's Best in Las Vegas.
The South Point is a fun place to get exercise walking. I enjoy walking by the horse statue then going upstairs past the Century Theater that always smells like popcorn, through the bowling alley which is always busy, then back down the escalator through the casino then down the long hallway with advertisements of the upcoming shows and current food specials, then up another escalator into the long convention center corridor. Sometime this corridor leads to a rodeo in the arena or a bowling tournament in the bowling tournament facility.
Disparate from many of the resorts, the South Point has not jumped on the detheming bandwagon. This is an equestrian themed resort with rodeos, rodeo trophies, horse figurines, and horse pictures.
The South Point is a lively and cozy spot to hang out. When I want to relax, I will pick up Starbucks then walk nearby to the plush couches in the hotel lobby that is adorned with picturesque stain glass.
Although the machines seem to be on the tight side, I enjoy playing my Caveman Keno here. The Cocktail Waitresses are generous with the drinks. Even though I am gambling slower than a turtle stuck in molasses while watching YouTube, they have given me zero problem bringing me a drink. They come around consistently. The machines are modern and well maintained. The chairs are comfortable. The South Point attracts a good crowd which adds to the enjoyment of gambling here. Additionally there is a security presence.
Where numerous resorts have gone the way of a hasbeen, the South Point is better today than it has been prior to 2021. When I spend time in the South Point, I do not say to myself, "This resort was so much better a couple of years ago." Or "This place used to be so much busier and now it feels so blah." When I have spent time in the South Point, I look forward to my next visit. To put it simply, when a resort offers a true Las Vegas experience that offers fun, excitement, and value people like myself look forward to returning to that experience. And that experience is at my current favorite Las Vegas resort: The South Point.
