It was okay, but definitely not a must-see. It's almost entirely 1980s reconstruction, so not really a significant site. If you've never seen an E Asian temple complex though I'm sure you'll be impressed. Climb the mountain at the rear of the complex for nice harbor views. And there's a beautiful pond out front. Free entry, but you must register on WeChat with a Chinese phone number.

it's a free entry to the temple. we reached around the closing time at 17:30. the temple is beautiful and clean and peaceful. the pond with lotus flowers and the cityscape background is a good contrast. The in house souvenir shop selling ornaments and gems and stones are popular though expensive.

This is a beautiful temple, located in the city. Access to this temple is convenient via public transport (bus), which cost a meagre RMB 1. Just behind the temple is a hill which will allow a good overview of the city centre skyline. It is definitely worth the effort and time to get there.

A famous temple here in Xiamen. It’s really quite big. I visited during hot summer but it was still so crowded! It was recommended so we also tried the vegetarian food here. We went to the buffet, it was not bad!

Nanputuo Temple is a rite of passage dating back to the Tang Dynasty (yes, we’re talking over a thousand years of incense, prayers, and monks probably wondering why tourists like me keep snapping photos of their koi pond), this Buddhist temple has been rebuilt and restored through the ages, still standing proud at the foot of the scenic Wulao (Five Old Men) Peaks. The vibe is peaceful yet buzzing. On one side, you’ve got the rhythmic sound of monks chanting. On the other side, the constant stream of visitors fumbling with joss sticks and selfie sticks (guilty 🙋‍♀️). Somehow, it all works. The architecture is classic Minnan-style, with ornate roofs curling like dragon tails, golden Buddhas gleaming under the sunlight, and halls so detailed you’ll need a neck massage after staring up too long. You can register for a 🆓 tour guide, available at 4 slots a day at the entrance and done by volunteers of followers/ disciples at the temple. In which, we started off strong but most of them wandered away like children till there was only 2 left at the end of the tour. Guess kids just wanna roam around when the space is huge.

A bit over commercialized.. many areas selling charms and stuff. Even monk is also selling.. most of the halls are closed.. gardens are beautiful though..

Nanputuo Temple is one of Xiamen’s most famous and scenic landmarks. Nestled at the foot of Wulao Mountain, the temple offers a peaceful escape with its beautiful architecture, lush surroundings, and serene atmosphere. The temple is dedicated to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists seeking spiritual solace. Visitors can explore the intricate halls, enjoy the stunning views of the nearby mountains and ocean, and experience the tranquil ambiance. Entrance to the temple is free, though be aware of the many touts outside the temple compound offering side tours. There are also free tours offered and conducted by volunteers of the temple devotees at fixed time. Check out photo for time. The grounds are well-maintained, and there are opportunities to participate in traditional Buddhist rituals. A must-visit for those in Xiamen looking for a cultural and spiritual experience.
