"The general store has served the community for nearly 200 years. Once an essential part of rural life, it not only supplied daily essentials but also served as a social hub."

Stopped here to purchase Vermont farmstead cheese and was surprised by the variety of items available here. The cheese factory doesn’t sell any more and they suggested this store for purchase. The store has a good collection of cheese, beer, snacks and a cute cafe at the back. Must stop here as the people a friendly and helpful.

Google
Excellent flavors, kind service, and country charm all in one place. Order at the counter and spend the wait while your food is prepared looking around this sweet store. I would wish the food prep was quicker but I enjoyed looking at all the unique local offerings too much

Google
Stopped here for breakfast before exploring Woodstock and was so happy that they have gluten free bread and a separate toaster/panini press! I got a fried egg sandwich with cheese and bacon and it was delicious!

Google
Friendly staff, clean, great coffee, excellent breakfast burrito and a wide selection of local foods and VT craft beers!

Came here 5 years ago and was on our list to return. Great place.

Google
Awesome store! Everything is spread out, so when moving around or if it's crowded, it's never too bad as there's plenty of room. There's plenty of options, and the food is great too! They do NOT have tobacco products, but everything else they pretty much have, variety of drinks, snacks, etc. Definitely visit if you're around!

Google
What a beautiful town, so many Historic buildings, so many made from brick or stone. The General Store is an incredible place, so open and airy, great products and great foods too. Today 6-20-24 at breakfast, I counted 25 patrons in the store! That's all the testimony anyone should need. I would come here most anytime. Friendly staff, it's complete with a sitting area to dine in. And clean rest rooms! Great food, great selection too

Google
The South Woodstock country store is iconic. It’s old and is full of Vermont charm but the most recent renovations make it feel new and clean. The breakfast sandwich I had most recently was delicious. The shopping experience felt safe and the staff was friendly! Nice selection of wines that weren’t what I see at most general stores so I’ll be back for sure to find some other new bottles! They also had some nice VT gifts in store as well.

Yelp
Hungry? Get yourself to the cafe ASAP! I think the kitchen closes at 2 so get your lunch early, my go-to is the turkey club which is amazing (the bread is wonderful). I have friends who live just down the road and on a recent 3-day visit, I ate two of these sandwiches. You also cannot miss the baked goods, even if you aren't hungry while you are in there get one for later. The apple fritters are fantastic, I noticed over several visits that they sell out quickly so don't miss out! The rest of the store has sweet Vermont items, there is definitely something for everyone if you need a Vermont gift for someone.

Yelp
Sweet country store with a few tables and very basic menu and popular lunch stop for local contractors. Grocery store bread and your standard boars head deli meats, nothing more nothing less. Nice local ambience.

Yelp
So glad we were within walking distance to this wonderful store. We opted to have their breakfast each morning and were able to stock up our house quite nicely with groceries, dairy, candles, coffee, wine and local beer. Just wish they offered more fresh produce but overall a lovely spot with nice prices and friendly staff.

Yelp
Nice sized store with plenty of souvenir goodies to pick up including some maple syrup made at a farm I'm the area. They have a dining area and you can order food at the register. We weren't hungry on our stop so we didn't get to try anything but they did seem to have a nice sized menu to choose from.

Yelp
Great store. Great selection. Great food. Completely obnoxious woman at the register. My friends and I ordered lunch there, and bought some beer from the massive selection they have. We sat down to eat, opened our beers and had a great lunch. Towards the end of our meal, she came running over SCREAMING at us that we can't drink the beer in the store. Maybe a sign or two stating as such would be good? But her obnoxious manner and screaming at us was complete bullshit. What an obnoxious Karen. Fire her, and your store is 100% killer!

Yelp
This place is the definition of a Vermont country store. From the time walking in to sitting down the environment is stellar. After riding down the trails for the morning we decided to grab a bite to eat here and even the prices were fantastic. I ended up getting a grilled cheese with bacon but also a turkey sandwich with pears on it which I found excitingly tasteful. I've gone to this place twice this past winter and both times have been leaving full and happy with my experience. If you still want a little treat on the way out snag a maple hard candy from the store area, they're terrific.

Yelp
This a really nice country store! Very warm and welcoming. They have a good assortment of many of the typical food items that you might find in a country general store, but I stopped in around midday and decided to have lunch. Everyone working at the store was very pleasant, and food was outstanding! I had a bowl of clam chowder- great flavor and loaded with clams and potatoes. In addition I had a bacon cheeseburger with cheddar. Great quality beef, delicious bacon, and a nicely warmed soft role. The burger was cooked perfectly- nice and juicy. I fished my meal with a large chocolate chip cookie with walnuts and a cup of coffee. Both were were very good. I will definitely stop here again when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Customer service is horrible, actually quite nasty. Food is mediocre. Nothing special about this place.

Michael D.

Yelp
The new owners have had about a month or so to settle in. They've brightened the place up, improved the kitchen, gotten rid of the tchotchkes and substituted displays of local veggies, a cooler of local cheeses, and have stocked up on good beer. Lawson's Sip o' Sunshine was plentiful in the cooler each day this past weekend. Breakfast today was the burrito, a blueberry muffin, and a ham, egg & cheese on english. Excellent. In fact, I think this was the best blueberry muffin I've had. Not too sweet, just great. They were doing a booming business, as they should since they're right on top of things.

Yelp
Stopped here with my buddy along the snowmobile trails with the intent of grabbing just a light bite, but ended up biting off more than we could chew, mainly because everything looked so delicious. The clam chowder was in my top 5. My buddy wanted the cod sandwich. The co-owner originally told us they were out, but made it happen with what little they had left and even went as far as to lower the price of the sandwich. Super accommodating. The homemade cookies were unreal. Try the Heath bar and the oatmeal raisin, not one or the other. Both. Total Mom and Pop shop. An immaculate, authentic Vermont deli/store at its finest. A hidden gem in the middle of nowhere with lots of local goods. Obvious supporters of other local businesses, including milk from Thomas Dairy. Wonderful hospitality from the owner. I will definitely make it a point to visit again on my next trip to central Vermont. Between the soup, sandwich, two cookies, a Thomas Dairy milk, a Stewart's root beer and an iced tea, our total came to $24. Very reasonable.

Yelp
Friendliest lunch spot around! Plenty of Good freshly made food Soups really rock! Choices for GF and VEG The Local clientele make this a great place to pop in for a snack and a chat

Ellen L.

Yelp
This is a great country store with lots of charm. The coffee and sandwiches are excellent. They have a terrific gluten free selection including pancakes on Sunday!

Ally O.

Yelp
Really delicious pizza and sandwiches. The daily pizzas are so well made with delicious ingredients and interesting combinations like pear and Gorgonzola and bacon and kale. They have an excellent assortment of local made products and hand crafted wears. The staff in the kitchen were all very friendly but there was a rude lady in the store who did not offer a welcoming reception to me or my family. Customer service, especially in a small town country store is everything!

Joan P.

Yelp
Rude and Nasty. I would not want to waste my time here. After waiting in line and watching 2 cooks make multiple sandwiches for over 15 minutes, one of the cooks turned to my husband and said, "the kitchen was closed for the day" and just turned away. Understand the business was recently sold, seems like the new owners dont understand that service comes along with the sandwich.... Luckily we found Woodstock Farmers Market, just down the road a piece, they were lovely with great food...

Chris N.

Yelp
I've gone for breakfast and lunch several times now. My sisters had the breakfast burrito and they said they were good and huge. I've had omelettes and breakfast sandwiches. Also really good. My favorite sandwich right now is The Gatherer with Portabello Mushroom and cheese. Place is looking great and is well stocked with craft beer and other necessary things like milk and local cheeses.

Alan P.

Yelp
Lovely place. Worst and slowest service ever. Rude servers. Waited 45 minutes for a sandwich. Would not recommend unless someone gets their act together here.

Sugey G.

Yelp
One of my favorite things about vermont is discovering all of it's wonderful country/general stores. The South Woodstock Country Store is no exception. We went here with my boyfriend's family for a quick lunch and I had the best meat loaf sandwich I have ever had. To be honest, it was the first meat loaf sandwich I had ever had but it was phenomenal. Just goes to show you that these are the kinds of places where you can always count on good old home cooking and it is always delicious. On the smaller side compared to some of the other stores but you can definitely find what you need while you are here. I think I picked up a bag of locally made maple jerky on my way out, it was the perfect pick-me-up during ski breaks.

Marty L.

Yelp
Stopped by last Sunday and ordered a breakfast sandwich with sausage to go. I have to say, it was the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had, in my 60 years of traveling. KUDOS to the Chef!!! Marty Rye, NH

Gayle L.

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast, great store/gift shop, good wine selection, and phenomenal staff. Everyone here is kind and helpful, not to mention all the locals who will likely strike up a conversation with you. Definitely stop in if you're in the area! Breakfast goes until 10am.

Christian T.

Yelp
Great country store with good breakfast items. We were staying next door at the Kedron Valley Inn and came here for breakfast as it is vastly superior. Very nice little country store with lots of essentials, good wine selection, and a good little eating area serving breakfast and lunch.

Jim U.

Yelp
Great selection of crafts and a hidden gem of a breakfast/lunch area in the back. Great sandwiches stuffed full of meat, homemade soups and a nice pot belly stove. Locals gather here every morning to chew the fat and eat! Eat in or take out for a picnic with great wines by the bottle to go. A must if staying in the area and want an authentic country store experience.

Ricky C.

Yelp
Danielle is awesome! Great atmosphere and great food. The kitchen staff is awesome! I would recommend trying the turkey blt as well as the fresh baked cookies

Kathy F.

Yelp
OK--four of us just had lunch at the South Woodstock General Store--THE BEST!!!! Turkey, chicken and roast beef cooked fresh at the store for wonderful sandwiches. YUM. And the soups? Roasted red pepper and gorgonzola or turkey vegetable and rice. Honestly the best soups and sandwiches around--including any place in the village of Woodstock just a bit north. And the ride is beautiful. Two minutes south on 106, the Green Mountain Horse Association was holding a trail ride and the horses, riders, atmosphere, etc. were exceptional. Definitely worth the trip....

Yelp
My husband and I were motorcycling through the beautiful roads of Vermont on a warm and sunny day. We came upon this place and just pulled in to the parking lot! It is a typical cozy Vermont country store. I ordered a typical deli sandwich and my husband ordered their special meatloaf sandwich. Both were very good on fresh bread. We also had one of their fresh baked cookies (large enough to share), which was very good. They were running low on salads, but since they were almost out of them, I have to assume that they were good too! You order your food at the counter, give your name, and sit and wait for your food to be freshly prepared. They call you back to the counter when your food is ready. You help yourself to the beverages and chips. After you have finished you go to the cashier to pay. While we were waiting for our food, three people rode up on horses, tethered them to the fence and came inside to eat. Finding this place was a real treat for us.
