Southdown Coffee - Huntington

Our cycling group makes a regular stop here to refuel. I usually get a black coffee but everyone else goes for a cappuccino. The service is quick and efficient. Staff are friendly & helpful. They even help us refill our water bottles at no charge. 👍👍 It’s a nice spot to sit down for 10 minutes and get away from the cold. It’s generally quite busy here on the weekends.

[update] I now have been to this location more than 30 times probably and I absolutely love their lattes! A cute local coffee shop. Friendly staff. However, iced latte didn’t meet my (probably now too high) expectations. I wish it was more bold and less watery. Tried Espresso tonic too which was interesting and actually great. I wish they had flat white on the menu.

We are super fans of Southdown Coffee and we visit them once a month for a couple of bags of their beans when we run out of our supply at home. However, this was our first visit to this location in Huntington. The decor is bright and clean but a little narrow with limited seating compared to their location in Glen Cove, which is the best in our opinion & Oyster Bay. Our favorite blend is the Sure Shot, which is perfect for espresso machine and we bought 5 bags as our routine with 2 pastries: Chai Scone & Biscuits. We also had 2 cups of hot Latte with 2 pastries, Almond Croissant and Zucchini Bread to dine there. The coffee was great and served quickly. However, it took us almost 20 mins to receive our pastries, which needed to be heated up since the staff forgot about our orders. The pastries were delicious especially the Zucchini Bread, soft & puffer but the wait was disappointing.

Excellent coffee and service every time. They're one of my two favorite roasters on the island. Their food is exquisite...I dream about the famous egg sandwich...a perfect balance of fat, acid, sweet, salt, contrasting textures, and amazing bread.

The coffee was good, and the service was great. House-made syrups which is a big win. Definitely 5 star coffee. Not sure about the food though, it looked kinda expensive.

I did not drink any coffee here because I live a caffeine-free existence. I had the Polenta Cake, which was made with almond flour. That is good for people like me who are on low-glycemic index diets. I do not recommend the Avocado Toast. The kind of tomatoes placed on top did not suit the avocado. Perhaps cherry tomatoes would have worked. The sunflower seeds did bring out the flavor of the avocado. I liked that. The bottled watermelon juice was too expensive at $8 a bottle. I have seen cheaper juices at Whole Foods Market.

EDITED: Really disappointed in this place. The past few times I have been there for coffee have been really bad. Coffee and Espresso is too sour; meaning they didn't extract for long enough when pulling the shot or let the iced coffee sit too long. In addition the egg sandwiches fell off. I paid $12 to receive a sandwich with one piece of bacon. Very disappointed since I gave it such a high rating last time and the time before when it first opened. So I'm leaving my original up for reference. Definitely a great place for coffee and breakfast. The quality is just way better and in my opinion it's the best coffee shop in Huntington. The egg sandwiches are really incredible and offer a unique taste away from your typical Long Island deli. I would say if you're from here and haven't been here yet... You're wrong! Go! Go now! Do it! You heard me! Stop reading this and go there now! :)

I had the Caesar Salad, which was tasty. It was too much for me to eat in one sitting. It took me a few more days to finish it. The lettuce lasted that long. It did not wilt, and the dressing did not get watery. For $16.29 after tax, it was well worth the money. Next time, I will get some chicken with it.

My husband and I were in the area and in the mood for some coffee. We popped in to grab some lattes. The interior is spacious, cute and inviting. Staff were friendly and the latte was delicious. Would definitely return!

I was in the area and suddenly got a craving for coffee and pastries. After finding Southdown on Yelp and seeing their high rating, I headed straight there. As soon as I walked in I immediately noticed the beautiful ambiance, a wonderful combination of chic, simplicity and charm. The coffee and food were just as impressive. My latte and blueberry scone were a match made in heaven. Thought I initially hesitated for obvious reasons, I couldn't help but dunk my scone into the latte... again and again. I know it's a public faux pas and all but I'm honesty surprise most people don't do this. I mean, you only live once, am I right? 5/5 from me, can't wait to go back.

Cute little coffee shop if you can slow down and grab a spot while driving! They had a decent amount of options for cookies and snacks, all very homemade and fresh.

Love the espresso tonic, iced lattes and matcha. Whether you want a mango flavor or strawberry, it's very refreshing. Staff is usually friendly. Food is always fresh. We especially like the salads and paninis. Sometimes they are out of things and the parking lot is difficult at times, but plenty of seating in a neutral color environment. Definitely worth the stop.

Southdown coffee has the best matcha in town in my opinion. The staff are always so nice and I am very disappointed. I tried the strawberry matcha iced latte yesterday and it was delicious. Their food is also so great.

I'll make this a quick review because I feel like my times at Southdown have been speedy and fast-paced. I've only been to this Huntington location twice (once a few months back and another in the past couple of weeks), but both times I was in and out with coffee in hand and on my way. Now I'm not sure if all Southdown's feel as fast-moving (and honestly bustling) as this location. There are several more scattered about on Long Island in some of the hipper town areas so I might one day get to check out a closer spot than Huntington (probably Patchogue or Northport), but when in this specific small strip mall storefront, things went quick. There was a line both times I entered and a handful of tables that were all filled, but orders came and went which got me up to the register. The menu is decently-sized with half of it being drinks and the other half a variety of breakfast/lunch food options so do your best to figure out what you'd like prior. When it was my first trip, I was looking for an iced latte with vanilla and regular milk and so that's what I ordered. I also got a few head scratches when I asked if they had any stickers (which isn't that outlandish when many other coffee spots I visit offer them up for free). Not a big deal as the coffee handed to me a few moments later was smooth, semi-sweet, and tasty. Not the most amazing latte I've ever had, but much better than your run-of-the-mill coffee chains and perfect for a warm day. On my second trip, it was a seasonal selection in fall, the iced maple spice latte, that made its way into my hand and wow was this a great autumn drink! Now I could probably almost warrant five stars on those two sips along with coffee quality, but I have to return to the food aspect. Southdown was doling out just as many plates of grub as they were drinks and it left me wondering how good their edible items were. I didn't partake in food on the first trip and the only thing I wanted to eat on the second trip was something light, so I bought a seasonal baked item, a pumpkin muffin. It was good, though I wasn't madly in love. I did like that there was a sign saying all of those baked items were made in-house which is nice to hear/see, but it left me with a little wonder as to how all of the food is at Southdown. Overall, with the question mark coming from the food aspect, I'll go with four stars on this specific Huntington coffee shop. Perhaps tackling just coffee alone might tempt me to go higher, but taking in the food and the fast-paced atmosphere leveled me out to more of a four, at least for now. And with that line, I finish my "quick" coffee review.

Let me just say that this is the place to get coffee in Port Jefferson. I always test the quality of the coffee by getting a cortado, no sugar - and it was good! So, after that I tried their double chocolate spicy mocha. I love a little spice in my coffee, and it was perfect, especially in a cold day! For a light breakfast, I had the Little English, and the egg is baked so the yolk is a tiny bit runny. Very tasty! Anyway, forget the big chains and get yourself some really good coffee!

My friend wanted to have a hot cup of cappuccino, around 430 so I Googled coffee and Southdown was nearby and STILL OPEN! We ordered a Cappuccino w milk and whipped cream and an iced Chai Tea w milk and a lavender shot. Both were delicious! It was quiet when we entered so we ordered and got our drinks quickly and sat down to enjoy our drinks. It got busy quick! Good thing we beat the rush! Good times

Relaxed cafe. Friendly staff. From what I saw today; they cleaned as they go. The sugar, milk, cup cover stations were clean. I ordered a ginger turmeric latte and an avocado toast. I added hot sauce because everything tastes better with spice. I would totally go again.

Definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in town. Great iced lattes; voted some of the best coffee in the US! They serve breakfast and lunch items, too. Today got the pistachio cardamom knot, and it was like a flavorful cinnamon roll - so good!

Beautiful and clean space, eclectic types of coffee with the good old fashion regular items. Tried both of course! Was nice to see a large range of drinks for our littles as well. Friendly service so excellent that we will be visiting again soon!

I live a caffeine-free existence now, so I did not order any coffee. Instead I got a bottle of watermelon juice for $8. That was the price I had to pay for drinking healthy. The polenta cake was good. It is made from almond flour, which has a low glycemic index. The Avocado Toast was mediocre. The roasted tomato topping soured the flavor of the avocado, but the sunflower seeds enhanced it. The sunflower seeds sweetened up the avocado. It was a terrific pairing. I suggest that the chef top the toast with a sweeter tomato variety, preferably some fresh cherry or Rosada tomatoes. Staff was friendly, and the service was quick. I got my order within seven minutes. Parking is free in a small retail lot. I would not go out of my way to come here. It is worth visiting only if you happen to be in Huntington Village.

Found on Source -- always grateful for a specialty coffee shop to try when traveling. We had the breakfast burrito, blood orange espresso tonic, iced latte, cinnamon cardamom knot, and rhubarb bar. Everything was good, I'd say the food was better than the drinks. Our barista was also very friendly!

Long line but worth the wait. I got the maple Spiced latte and my boyfriend got the chai latte and both were superb. We both got the famous egg sandwich and that was delicious as well. The pickled onions added a whole different level of flavor as well as the tomato jam sauce on the sandwich. Gave it a unique touch. Not a huge fan of arugula but I didn't mind it too much. I saw they had jalapeño cheddar biscuits as well which looked amazing and I plan to try next time. I didn't ask if it was possible but if it's not already an option, having the option to have the biscuit for the famous egg sandwich would be great.

One of the best coffee I have had. Ordered iced latte with the home made vanilla syrup. Sooo good. Ofc fresh. Staff freindly. Cute small place with standing area. Wish there was a shop closer to my home. The caffiene hit me and coffee was perfectly freshly brewed. The vanilla was just sweet enough and didnt taste artificial like other spots can. Coffee made with love. Def want to stop by again. This shop is close to water view, park, other women clothes shops, playground, other restaurants, and beach. Can amke a trip out of it

This is the exact type of coffee spot I love. We ordered a drip coffee which was delicious and on point - fresh, bright, succulent yes please!! I also ordered a cortado which was yummy smooth and balanced. Upon noting this was top 20 roasters/ coffee shop in the country? I had to grab a bag to go - yes it had the roast date 5 days off roast. Grabbed a Colombian (not my wife this time) a well descriptive bag which even included several recipes on the side. Brought it home and it was outstanding light roast, beautifuly devoloped I felt as I was right back on LI. The service was also good - down to earth peeps that knew how to smile even with a line nearly out the door. Also loved seeing the espresso machine pulling beautiful shots in the background. Thx I'll be back!! Or .. or.. will have my fam-bam bring a bag-ah-two upstate next time!

Phenominal drinks every single time, lattes and matchas are the best. And the cherry on top, the famous egg sandwich is the only thing you should be ordering for breakfast. Absolutely incredible life changing sandwich.

I've been on a slow coffee crawl in and all around Huntington for about a year now! I never knew how many coffee cafes existed in our wonderful, highly desirable town. I rated the coffees only on taste (not the cafe vibe, the music, the menu or the coffee house ambiance). I am very happy to share with you that Southdown Coffee in both locations (Huntington & Northport) are tied with 1 other place in our town for THE BEST COFFEE IN HUNTINGTON. Congrats Southdown!!!

I like to randomly insult the North because of the weather and some people not being friendly. Including and sometimes particularly focused on, Long Island. But I'd never put the Southdown. After all, Lynyrd Skynrd might attack me in a famous song from beyond the grave. But this place is just great. One of my faves on "the Island" and not just for "Kwafee." They're famous for their egg sandwiches and their breakfast sandwiches, and that's why I give them 5 Stars. Excellent little family-owned place who have a specialty and do it well. I'm not crazy about the coffee but it's not bad. Like my friend Samantha, I'm shocked and disappointed that they don't have an outlet (not a single one), and I want to take stars off for that, but for a little local place which I'm mainly coming to for a breakfast sandwich anyway, I can't do it. I'll just go to a boba shop or another coffee shop to use Wi-Fi I'll just come here for the amazing breakfast sandwiches.

Our mango matcha and hot chai were awesome! This coffee shop is super cute and very clean. There is parking right outside in front and you're out of the congested town of Huntington by just a minute or two.

Great breakfast spot. Coffee was good. I ordered the avocado toast and got my husband their famous egg sandwich. Love the healthy choices they have here. I placed my order ahead and it was ready for me when I got there so I didn't have to wait in line. Good to know they have several locations.

This place is simple and easy, unlike the coffee, which is complex and difficult to choose which single origins I wanted my pour over. Awesome. Will be stopping in every chance I get.the people are friendly and the place is clean.

To begin with, service was just super slow and not at all urgent. Waited over 15 min for a subpar coffee worth we'll over 7$. I try to support small business but it's hard to do it with experiences like these.

Was not happy with the fact they only offered one roast of coffee and it was extremely dark - like bottom of the pot dark . Most specialty coffee shops offer a variety of roasts- . I prefer a medium or mild roast and this was definitely not for me. Go for it if you like a deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep daaaaaaaaaark roast !

What an absolute delight! So many good things to say... cleanliness, informed and kind staff, amazing famous egg sandwich (minus the bacon-they kindly took it off for my preference), and great coffee! Will definitely return when I'm in town. Can you open another one in Setauket...pleeeese? :)

While in Huntington, we tried this coffee shop out! It was a cute and small coffee shop. I tried a seasonal Maple latte, a tad less sweet. It was delicious!! I enjoyed the latte and the shop to sit and catch up. The overall experience was stupendous and very fun. I would recommend this spot!

What is the big deal about this place? There's nothing special about it. Employees are nice but I was here before Covid so that was a long time ago. Honestly, I make much better Nespresso at home. Sorry Southdown, this isn't Latte Larry's and I'm not impressed at all!

Okay. I'm just going to sit here and rave about their Famous egg sandwich. I've been coming here for years and ordered just the sandwich every time. Its so good that i cant even bare to order anything else. Just Fantastic. I think its the fact that they use really fresh ingredients and they must make the "tomato butter" and they use pickled veggies. I love a good pickled radish and it just does wonders for this breakfast sandwich. It's $8 and pretty big, big enough to actually share but who wants to do that? Its basically 2 eggs, cheese, arugula, bacon, tomato butter and pickled veggies on a fresh roll. It doesn't even feel heavy, you still feel light and breezy after eating it and you'll be happy as a clam. That being said, the coffee at Southdown is always great stuff. This location never has seating though because everyone is on their laptop which sucks but that's okay. Grab your famous sandwich and RUN!

I got the strawberry matcha. Small for the price and was more milky than I preferred -- just tasted like strawberry milk to me. I would say get it if that's what you prefer, but I like a more rich matcha taste

It never fails to make me laugh when I see reviews complaining about price from people who's main coffee place is Dunkin'. Yes. Your coffee will be more expensive from a place that is their OWN roaster. And it's worth it. I've been to all Southdown's on the island, and all of them have their own separate charm; this being my favorite. When I used to work in the village a few years ago, I would go out of my way to walk here after work from NY Ave to get their espresso. It's still my go-to whenever I'm in Huntington or Oyster Bay. Great options, and no pretension like you'd get from someone working at a Blue Bottle in Williamsburg. Great place.

I'm not one to write a review, but the service here is so bad that I felt like I needed too. The people here are rude to their costumers and in a town full of older people, the way these baristas do the uppity barista thing is insane. The wait times are long and there were only two people on line in front of me. And then the people treat you like you're an idiot, and then they did the same thing to the woman behind me who asked for milk in her tea. The coffee is great, but it's expensive. I'd rather go to soul brew in Huntington, the people are actually nice, the food is good, it's way more bang for your buck.

Welcome to Northport!!! We are so glad that you are here. Coffee was amazing, service was excellent and atmosphere is basic but I believe more to come in the future! Come out and welcome this new business to our neighborhood, you will not be disappointed.

Be still my heart... I went to a coffee place in Northport. A wall of flavors for your coffee! Ugh... this is not what I want. I want a coffee place with a roaster. A place that understands there are different beans from all over the world and roasting the beans gives a different result. Enter Southdown Coffee. I had this place bookmarked for a while. Both the Northern state and L.I.E were hosed so I figured lemme stop and get coffee in Huntington Village. I love Huntington Village, it's a great Long Island town. There was a place I used to go with my girlfriend (now Mrs S) called Classy Coffee. We'd sit and order a specialty coffee that was brewed that day along with their great baked goods. I walk into Southdown and see their roaster. I start talking to the barista and I see there is a serious espresso machine. He starts telling me they've been in business for a year. The beans they source are from various locations and they roast in house. They got the coffee down, no one said they also perfected breakfast?! I ordered a #1, omg! It was crazy good. Eggs with bacon. Arugula, Cheddar cheese with tomato butter on a warm ciabatta roll. This was a well put together egg Sammy. It's like something I'd get at Bouchon bakery, not a small Long Island coffee spot. I left feeling good, both coffee and breakfast were a homer out of the park. I shall return!

Bitter, horrible espresso. Espresso is an art these guys and gals have not mastered. Throwing it in a cup full of milk will make it taste better. I would have loved to get my shots here instead of the corporate Starbucks, but you have to go with consistency! Sorry...I always try and support local unless it hurts my taste buds.

I went a while ago, when things were first opening up during the pandemic, so this review is long overdue. We were looking for a coffee shop that wasn't Starbucks or Dunkin, and this was our "outing" when we started to go out for non-essential things. The coffee had the nutty flavor I associate with smaller coffee shops/smaller batch roasts. I was very happy with the hygiene (and that isn't something I said much since March 2020!) Then disaster struck. I set my coffee cup down on the pretty, wooden counter with sugar, etc etc. I hadn't noticed that the edge was slanted - my coffee fell off, and spilled all over the floor. The staff got me supplies to start cleaning up (they did too) and when I went to buy another coffee, they wouldn't charge me for the replacement. The spill was totally my fault, and I had no expectation, and I insisted they charge me. It wasn't a cheap coffee, but replacing me coffee after it fell was definitely beyond anything anyone could possibly hope for. I haven't been back yet, mostly because it's a little out of our way, but you can be sure I will drop in the next time we go past!

If there is such a thing as an idealistic, Pinterest approved coffee shop, it would be Southdown Coffee. What a wholesome place. Everything about it is aesthetically appealing: coffee drinks, food items, decor, layout in general, everything. I've had the cortado, regular black coffee, and famous egg sandwich. I expected the coffee to be excellent, and it was. Each order is made with care. What I didn't expect was the egg sandwich... It blew me away. I think it was the best egg sandwich I've ever had. If I lived/worked closer, or was in Huntington ever, I would come here more often.

Popped in here for the first since COVID and honestly it was such a happy reunion. The space has been organized for proper traffic flow for social distancing. I noticed you can also call in an order and pick it up as well. I had an iced latte after months and it's even better than I remembered- I deff sat in my car for a bit to enjoy the amazing coffee- I've missed you Southdown coffee! I can't tell what I love more about this place. The expertly made coffee drinks, perhaps the freshly baked pastries, or yummy sandwiches made with the best ingredients, or maybe it is the amazing staff that always greets me with a smile and a familiarity that make my mornings brighter. When I'm lucky enough to have some time before work I always try to make it into Southdown to crab a cup of joe or a delicious iced green tea and even sometimes treat myself to a breakfast sandwich. This week I got to try the smoked salmon sandwich which comes with cream cheese, arugula, capers but today with the expert advice of Dom (who is an angel that works behind the counter) I got an egg on it and it was a game changer. The salmon was smokey and salty, the arugula helped cut through the richness of the egg and cream cheese and give a little spice, and the capers are little delicious salty nuggets of love that make everything better. I just love coming here whether it's to go or stay, when you are there you're family. Also, do not pass up on the opportunity to try any of the cookies by the counter, they are all out of control. Trust me I am speaking from experience, cookie monster like experience.

terrible iced coffee, bitter and not enough ice. not sure how places like this stay in business with bitter coffee. the girl was not that nice.

Very special breakfast sandwiches, and good coffee. We had coffee of the day, eggs cheddar and bacon sandwich, and eggs cheddar and avocado sandwich. Sandwiches are toasted, Cuban style, and the bread was fantastic. Seating is limited, and apparently customers are not discouraged from hanging out and using wifi.
