What a wonderful place to stay! Quiet, clean, comfortable, welcoming. The house and grounds are beautifully taken care of, the shared spaces (dining/living area, kitchen, bathrooms, hallways) are cozy and cheerful and clean. You can tell that great care is put into this place. It’s also pretty walkable from most of the main goings-on in Invercargill, even from the airport if needed, though it was a bit of a trek. Lovely green space nearby, too! I stayed in a private room, so I can’t speak to the shared rooms, but everyone I met was friendly and respectful, which was the general vibe the whole place helped curate. There was someone staying here for a whole month, if that tells you anything. It’s a perfect place to land and feel at home, whether it’s for one night or many. If I am ever back in Invercargill I shall be booking here again.

Feels like home. Super cosy place to stay. Bed was comfortable, everything is clean and tidy, kitchen is well-equipped with everything you may need (condiments, coffee, milk, breakfast cereal and bread, baking paper, cling wrap etc.) Spent NYE staying in - played board games and cooked a delicious meal here. It was perfect :) I’d definitely come back again!

What a wonderful experience! I’d especially like to thank Merlyn for creating such a welcoming, comforting atmosphere—it really felt like coming home. The little extras, like clean towels and face cloths, shampoo, coffee, and breakfast foods provided at no extra cost, added a sense of holiday luxury to my stay.|The spring weather was cold and unpredictable—rain, hail, wind, and sudden bursts of sunshine—and I’d had a challenging time beforehand. But arriving at this hostel lifted my spirits and gave me a newfound appreciation for Invercargill and the friendly, authentic people who live there.|I’ve never written a review before, but this place truly deserves recognition. The gardens are beautiful, the house is warm, clean and cosy, and the staff (thanks also to Brenda) are genuine and attentive.

This is absolutely the best accommodation in New Zealand. merlyn prepared fresh cakes every day, the room was spotless, the grounds were spotless, and the gardens were beautifully maintained—everything was perfect. If I had the chance to stay again, I would only choose this place. It will remain in my memory forever.❤️❤️

😊 Felt Like Home! True Southern Comfort! Stayed here after 1 month of cycling adventure. Met very friendly travellers here, many who also completed a walking or cycling tour. Very relaxed and home like vibes. Merlin the owner and house Mum makes this place really unique and hospitable. Thank you Merlin. Comfy beds, beautiful big country style home, nice garden and chilling areas. I hope to visit again :)
