If you’re looking for authentic soul food and incredible service, look no further. We had a fantastic experience here! From the moment we walked in, our server Mia set the tone for the entire meal. She met us with a warm smile and was so inviting; she truly made us feel like family. My wife asked for her suggestions, and Mia was spot on with every recommendation she gave. We started with the catfish bites, and they were easily some of the best we’ve ever had, perfectly seasoned and cooked to a golden crisp. For the mains, the turkey meatloaf, and collard greens were packed with flavor, the mac & cheese was absolute perfection. You can tell they take pride in their seasoning because nothing was bland. I wasn’t disappointed by a single bite. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on this menu. Whether you’re looking for a cozy date night spot or a new go-to for brunch, this is the place. Highly recommend!

Southern Comfort was such a good lunch spot! The food was amazing, the ribs and the turkey wings were straight tender and absolutely delicious. Every bite was perfect. The drinks? 10/10, no exaggeration. And shoutout to our server, Ashanti! Her energy was everything super sweet, attentive, and made the whole experience even better.

I was in Hampton for the weekend and wanted to eat somewhere different but still eat soul food. I found this gem. When I walked in it was awkward as there is no hostess stand so you are looking for some eye contact from someone who works there so you can know if you seat yourself or wait. I found that eye contact and was told I could sit anywhere. After that it did take longer than it should for someone to come take my drink order which was ok since I only ordered a water. Now when it came time to take my food order that took about 10 minutes which is much to long in my opinion. The food came out and it was hot and fresh and really good. The price was reasonable. I ended up ordering a to go plate for my mom as well. If I'm in the area I would go back.

Great food but the restaurant’s appearance significantly detracts from the experience. The space lacks aesthetic appeal and feels neglected, which unfortunately makes it difficult to fully enjoy the meal. Simple updates such as better lighting, cleaner presentation, or thoughtful décor could make a huge difference.

I'm traveling in Hampton, Virginia, from Los Angeles, Ca. and looking for some good soul food to eat and I ran across this place. Everything was perfect.Catfish was crispy, juicy and inside & fried to perfection, collard greens did need no help at all.They were velvety and soft and melted in your mouth.The yams are just right, not too sweet, not full of sugar and cinnamon.And the cornbread was delicious as well. I was also able to looks at the Sunday night NFL game between Washington and Denver. Atmosphere was chill in the area you gotta stop by and eat there.

The food was good!!! My dad and I visited after church around 2:30. Our food arrived at our table at 3:35. The young lady who served us was amazing, she kept refilling our drinks and checking in on us. I asked her name and the meaning, she replied “I Am that I Am!” I told her that was strong and beautiful and she should smile. She had excellent customer service. The “manager” who corrected a server arrogantly by saying “ I am the owner not the manager”, didn’t seem very pleasant. He sat at a table behind us quizzing the servers as they worked!!!! I am a business owner as well, that didn’t sit well with me. They are all young girls who are doing their best. He was there with another guy cursing and being ridiculous. If it were not for how sweet our server was, we would’ve left. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, and enjoy ghetto atmospheres, you may want to visit another restaurant.

This food was absolutely amazing. We had the smothered pork chops, fried shrimp, soul rolls, Mac and cheese, greens, and yams………delicious!!! I promise this place will not disappoint. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome as if we were eating at home, so a big Thank you to Ashanti, so if you come don’t hesitate to ask for her!! We will be back very soon.

Our Security Ministry had our annual Christmas Celebration at Southern Comfort Restaurant in Hampton today. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The service was wonderful. We had a most delightful server with a memorable name of Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards). Nevaeh was very attentive and provided excellent service!! Everyone in our party indicated that their food was delicious...appealing to the eye and taste buds. If you're ever in the area, stop by Southern Comfort for wonderful service and a taste of soul...it's there, as soon as you walk in.

We are back for Mom's 85th Birthday and this place did not disappoint the ambience of smooth R&B jazz laid back influence e filled the air with the sweet aroma of southern cusine filling the air. The Bar area was occupied by locals who patronize the Su day brunch and midday adult beverage vide couples with delicious appetizers. We ordered a broad array of southern cuisines from shrimp crab cakes to wings, pork chops and much much more. The sides were traditional and consistent from Collard greens to Mac and Cheese shuttling over to candied yams not a buffet but a array of good Ole cooking. Served with a smile and desire to please the only draw back was the side order of lamb chops which was lamb chop was only 1 lamb chop for 10.00 each it was thin and and small not worth the uncharted other than that the meal was satisfying. Consistency is key and for the most part this place is consistent!

An okay dining experience. We made a reservation for a large party. It was our group and one other table of 4 occupied in the building. I didn't care for the way the bathroom smelled either. The food took a long time and was only okay tasting. My baked chicken didn't have much taste. The green beans were very salty. The macaroni didn't have a lot of taste either. A lot of people in my party said they weren't crazy about their food. I will say they do a great job of making the food aesthetically appealing! Very disappointing for the price. The staff was okay. The overall experience was eh.

The chicken was alright and a bit dry, the waffle was soggy. The kiosk didn't work either.

Our Bible study class went there for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. There were 26 of us and our waitress Shante was just stellar is the service we got. The food was fresh and hot. I will be back.

For $20 it's not a bad deal but... The flavor of the wings I got was Honey lemon pepper, I couldn't taste any "Honey". The mac and cheese was lacking cheese and honestly the homemade taste. I didn't care for the sweet potato either, could have used butter and sugar on top. Plus the place didn't have A/C and the restaurant was very very warm. The service was 100% though! I will try again.

PROS: seated quickly (Friday @ 5:30) Happy Hour FOOD was good! It took A LONG TIME, it came out hot and full of flavor CONS: Service. It was slow and our server was dry, to the point of rude. Maybe she was having a bad day. It took FOREVER for our food to get to the table. VIBE was very soulful, but SLOW MUSIC. AND THE AC was broken. The thermostat was set to 69; but 77 degrees inside.

Poor service, incompetent and unprofessional staff. Food delivery was inaccurate and very slow. Waited over an hour to receive a inaccurate order with no explanation. I do not recommend this restaurant for any purpose.

I honestly didn't know this place existed until a co-worker wanted to try this place. So I was with a party of 3 and we were seated at a high table. The place is nicely colored teal and black. It took a while for the server to come over (they weren't busy). She was very pleasant and took our orders. I will tell you they are NOT fast! The drinks came which were mediocre (2 of us tried the southern comfort punch). Now the food on the other hand was good! If you like your food seasoned this is where it's at! They have a lunch menu, happy hour food & drink menu, plus brunch, taco Tuesdays, and they have daily specials. I will most likely be back to try other food items.

Terrible!!! SLOW, SLOW SERVICE!!! Waited over an hour, & people that came in after us, got their food first!!!! We were dining in. & was told due to backlog of online orders & door dash!! Just RIDICULOUS!!, No Manager on-site to talk to!! Tried to support local businesses!! We have to do better people!!!

We were visiting family and family recommended this place for their chicken wings. So decided to check it out and specifically get the chicken wings. The chicken wings were huge! The collard greens were seasoned well and went real good with the cornbread. The best part was the crab dip! I definitely go back just to order the crab dip. Customer service was great and ambiance was chill. 4 stars because the potato salad wasn't too great. It was a little too mustardy for me that it was overbearing. Overall, great food and great customer service. We'll be back!

Food took 2 hours to come out and our waitress kept telling us it was coming out soon. Food was mediocre and it was hot as hell inside. The restaurant wasn't even busy. Won't be coming back here.

The fried fish and pork chops were awesome! Sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese was cooked to perfection. Most of all our waitress was just the best! We will be bringing back friends soon! A diamond!

They had terrible service! We had reservations at 1pm for ten people and at first were sat at a table only for eight people. When I asked to changed our table we were met with attitude from two servers. When we finally ordered, our food took TWO hours to come out with NO update. We had to keep asking how long the wait would be. When we finally got our food they had ran out of half of what we ordered due to them serving other people before us. On top of that they did nothing but try to give us half off for our troubles. The manager took 20 minutes to come out and the owner wasn't even there, and when he got there he didn't really try to rectify the problem. I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS POORLY RAN ESTABLISHMENT. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! THE FOOD IS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

HereThe food was enjoyable overall, though the mac and cheese could have been fresher--it had a bit of a leftover Thanksgiving vibe. The drink wasn't to my taste, but I didn't want to send it back, as our waiter seemed a bit preoccupied. While the setting isn't the most comfortable, it's a decent spot for a quick lunch date. I'd consider coming back, but probably not on my own dime. Our server was polite and did her best, though she may have had something personal on her mind that day.

My family ordered takeout from this restaurant this evening, and the liver was so overcooked and dry that it was as tough as jerky. You couldn't tell what meat it was. I called and was told the manager wasn't in. The kitchen supervisor was adamant that the food wasn't overcooked when I was on the phone with the restaurant. I had to bring one of the meals back to prove that it was very overcooked even though I had photos (which I offered to send) of the "jerky" meat. When I arrived, the kitchen supervisor never bothered to came out to talk to me or even look at the meal she allowed to leave her kitchen. After someone finally called a manager, they only offered to refund or recook 1 of the 4 meals despite the fact that no one was able to finish any of the meals. I just so happened to look at mine and decide I wasn't even going to try to eat it. But since my 92-year-old grandmother and other family hadn't eaten since breakfast, they didn't feel like taking hours to try and rectify the situation so they picked at what they could chew and gave the rest to the dog. The establishment didn't even care enough to open my to-go container when I brought it back in before throwing it away. This business has lost several customers, and I'll be sure to spread the word!

Father's Day June 16, 2025, 1030 AM My wife waited at the front of the line for approximately 20 minutes, only to be informed that it would take an additional 45 minutes to be seated. This was despite the fact that nearly 40% of the tables were visibly unoccupied. We were told the delay was due to a backlog in the kitchen, so we continued to wait. While I consider myself a patient person, my patience wore thin when I saw two individuals--identified by staff as regulars--walk past the line and be seated immediately. It became evident that the staff was overwhelmed, and the restaurant's service process was in need of serious improvement. Customers choose restaurants not only for the food but also for the service--both are equally important. While I won't comment on the food, as this was our first visit, I can say that the service left much to be desired. Frustrated, my wife and I decided to leave. As we exited, we passed a line of more than 30 people still waiting. Interestingly, another couple followed us out. We went to a different restaurant, where we were seated and served within 30 minutes. The service was excellent--and so was the food.

Service: Too slow. It took just about 1 hour from the time I ordered on a Saturday at 5:30 PM until it was ready. Food: Catfish dinner, Fried Turkey Chop, and Meatloaf Dinner. All were probably 7/10 on taste. It doesn't matter though if it was manna from heaven because I would never go back there considering how long it took. Ambiance : Its is in a corner of a strip mall so the lighting isn't the best. Very much of a roadside diner type of vibe. Either the AC wasn't working well or they didn't have it on bc it was very warm inside.

The food was very good, I had the liver with rice gravy and onions. Green beans was my side and all of the food was seasoned to perfection!

Great southern cooking in the Hampton VA! Black owned and operated and food taste like "Big Momma l" is in the kitchen for sure. Will definitely return.

I recommend this establishment to anyone who wants some good southern cooking. My husband wanted turkey which was not available on this visit. Everyone else got what they wanted. The food was served hot and the portions were well worth the price. The servers were friendly and attentive. My husband decided on the shrimp which he really enjoyed. Everything was cooked just right. We will be returning!

Service is trash my family of 4 got here at 7:10pm and didn't get out food until 9pm!! Freaking ridiculous!! Mac & cheese is bland the yams were not yamming at all !! Its Saturday night place is not packed and only 2 waiters !! We will not be back & yall gotta do better!!!

In town for the Jazz Legacy jazz festival this weekend & stopped in for lunch. Let me tell you that our server Jaelynne was so amazing! Very attentive & provided great customer service. She made our drinks to perfection! The chicken wings were piping hot! My friends ate them so quick and the table was filled with bones!...our main courses were all delicious! We had fried catfish, bbq ribs, fried shrimp, shrimp po boys, honey lemon pepper wings and I had the turkey wings featured in this review. Our sides included Mac n cheese, green beans, cabbage, rice & gravy, fries, and yams!!!! SWEET JESUS!!! This place is the truth! You gotta stop in & try some of this SOUTHERN COMFORT food!!! Ask for Jaelynne! She'll provide the most amazing food/drink experience!!

Perfect visit from beginning to the end! As if I even need to say this, I located this place on Yelp! Once we arrived, I realized I've been here before but I believe they were crowded and we couldn't get in, or something similar. Well, we're back! Not only are we back, we're back for happy hour and dinner! Feed us please! This place has a spacious parking lot out front and you can easily locate this place from the main road. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the bartender Mike. Mike was super laid back and cool! We got right to it with our questions about drinks and food items and Mike was prepared to give it his all! He even provided my husband with a sample or 2 of questionable items. Hubby loved everything! Collectively we ordered roasted turkey wings with veggies and potato salad, baked catfish with broccoli and yams, chicken wings off of the happy hour menu and some good good drinks (Bahama Mama and Hurricane)! The only downfall with this place is everything took quite a bit of time. Mike did apologize a few times for the delay. Let me tell you the wait was well worth it! Those chicken wings came out so crispy and tender! I was mad that they cooked them because they were too hot for me to eat! Yes! I said it!! Lol The wings were a great size and seasoned perfectly! Hubby genuinely loved his turkey wings and sides. He kept stating he's not going to be able to finish this meal because it was so much! He almost finished that meal! Haha My catfish was the perfect portion sized entrée. It was so good that I was taking small bites to devour longer! Yes small bites! I rarely get grilled or blackened catfish while out because it never comes out right but today, it came out rightttt! And let me tell you about these happy hour drinks, we got a Bahama Mama and a Hurricane! Talk about great daggone drinks, the perfect amount of alcohol and a smooth smooth intake. This black owned business is pretty awesome! We will definitely be back every time we travel here to visit our son at Hampton! Southern Comfort has us locked in for the next 4 years !!

The food is good but the waitress with the short locs was picking and choosing which customers she wanted to tell it was "an hour and a half" wait for food including the appetizer. Then another couple comes in afterwards and gets an appetizer within 25 minutes. She never refilled our drinks we had to wait 15 minutes to get. No silverware provided initially & did not check on us AT ALL until we finished the food; but was trying to rush the other wait staff to clean & buss tables as if she trying to shut down the restaurant with customers still inside. Her customer service skills were horrible and she's bad for a business trying to make money. The light skin female server was WONDERFUL, I wish she was our server. She was thee best at calming customers down that were leaving due to the long wait and poor service by the loc-headed waitress. Take Loc-Head off the front line & put her in the back........since she felt the need to say that to the light skin server in front of customers!

I'm writing this at 9:30 pm on a Sunday as your restaurant should be open as the sign says and online states yet the doors were locked. When I approached the door a worker asked me "what do you want" as if I was selling something. Just rude and inconsiderate. Needless to say I never got any food. If you are closing earlier than 10 pm you need to update online posting and flip the signs. Will not be returning.

I attended this past Saturday with my 10 sisters and we had exemplary service and delicious food!!! Our waitresses were friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and prompt with ensuring we all had beverages and appetizers. Our main entrees exceeded our expectations!! Some of my sisters had never been to this restaurant and they were pleasantly surprised and glad to have selected Southern Comfort for our sisterhood luncheon! Food was not the best I do not recommend the SoCo Egg rolls, Mac & Cheese was kinda good. Our waitress was good, took about 15 minutes for food to come out. The atmosphere was not good at all somebody came in the restaurant with a visible firearm, and a stack of cash hanging out of their pocket.

Had 1pm reservations for brunch for a party of 10. We were told it would an hour wait for food. Cool! We'll have drinks and chit-chat. It took 2hrs 15mins for our food to come. The waitress kept telling us our food was being plated as time went on we ask for a manager. The manager comes out with no apologies, no real concern and no sense of urgency to rectify the problem. The leadership made our poor waitress deal with all of our issues until we demanded he come out. After another hour goes by here comes the whispering owner again with no real resolution only more excuses. Finally food starts to come after almost 3hrs and they tell me oh, we're out of waffles. I'm like didn't you know that 2 hrs ago. I was visiting from out of town and needless to say I won't be going back and definitely will not recommend. Food overall was a weak 4 to say the least. Try Mango Mangeaux for sure and NOT THIS HOOD establishment with HOOD MENTALITY LEADERSHIP AND OWNERSHIP.

This place just isn't my cup of tea. Very careless service. Only received half my takeout order. Called them and was hung up on the first time. Called back and asked for a refund and the "manager walked away" from the phone as the employee stated. She said he'd call back. Never did. Never got a resolution... wouldn't want that type of energy preparing my food anyway

Food took an hour to arrive and it wasn't very crowded. The chicken was overcooked and cold. The waffle was also cold. We didn't receive 3 of the items we needed when the food finally arrived. The service is molasses slow...slower. The servers attitudes are uncaring and they do as little as possible to help. The atmosphere was fine. Nothing spectacular but at least the music was low enough that we were able to hear each other. Go to waffle house.

Food is great. Even though we went on a Sunday and the place was packed, the food kept its consistency from the previous visits. My complaint is, they have a fruit cup/bowl on the menu. I ordered it for my toddler. In my mind I'm expecting a variety of fruit, whhyyy they send out a bowl of sliced oranges. Not even a whole orange, maybe half an orange, 3 slices or worse yet, oranges from the bar garnish AND it was $5. Take this off your menu if this is your idea of a fruit bowl.

pork chop 2 sides gravy&rice, mac&cheese, potatoe salad was great. HubB had meatloaf mash potates and broc of course that was good also. Serves was nice she checked on needs check to see if food was ok. thanks Elia i hope i spelled your name right and you know how to talk to people happy young lady no attitude.

Service Excellent-food hot and delicious!! It's definitely the go to place for a hot flavorful meal! The vegetables are so good I could make a meal out of them broccoli wow and string beans devoured first! Everything was amazing. First time we saw a large crowd at 3:00 pm still seated quickly and food delivered hot and quickly . Very pleased to recommend this one! Nice job!

Stopped in on a whim after leaving Virginia Beach and I'm happy to report it was an excellent choice. The restaurant is bright, cheery and absolutely welcoming. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. The bar has purse hooks!! So considerate of them! The bar area is huge with a lot of seating. There are beautiful murals on the walls with some cool sayings. They also have TVs everywhere that would be perfect for sports fans. They play nice old school R&B jams that kept me singing the entire time there. We started out with cocktails from the menu - the pink lemonade and the southern royalty. Both very tasty! We ordered the crab balls appetizer and crushed them in seconds. Yes they are that good. Entrees: Soulful Turkey Wings with mac & cheese, cabbage, rice & gravy and cornbread. All of it was super delicious! The turkey wings literally melt in your mouth. You can't go wrong choosing this meal. The cabbage was a bit sweet for my liking so I added hot sauce to see if it helped. Mac & cheese was on point. Rice and gravy was a hit too! I never see this on a menu and it made me happy. And they use long grain rice! Not that uncle ben's stuff. The rice that actually absorbs the gravy if you know what I mean lol. I can eat rice & gravy every day! Southern Comfort Pork Chop with collard greens, mac & cheese and cornbread. My boyfriend loved his meal! I tasted the pork chops and was blown away by the flavor! Super tender too! The collard greens were on point! Whenever I'm in Hampton or driving through, I most definitely will not be leaving until I stop here. We loved it! I'm sure you will too!!

Walk in the door alarm is annoying. This place has heavy traffic. Seated immediately yet I had to wait 5min for a menu, 5min for drink order and 7min for drinks. Add 50 min for food. Servers were nice but had no organization. Everyone is playing multiple parts and it was not working. 2.5 drinks later our food arrived. Chicken look good but fried too hard. Macaroni look good but was bland. The cheese had no flavor salt nor pepper helped. Greens were good, if you like a sweet, tangy taste this is the place for you. Cabbage was over cooked but sweet. Potato salad would have sent me over the moon but it had too much mustard. Lastly the cornbread was dry, tasted good but you definitely need a drink to get it down. Lasting impression it can build because the food is not disgusting. It is equally important to have the staff or a plan to be able to service your guest.

Delicious! The food was incredible. I had the turkey wings, rice and gravy and collards and every bite was phenomenal. Vareh was our server and delightful and attentive! I have very high standards and Southern Comfort exceeded them.

The service is GREAT they were really nice to me, great quality food the catfish bites that are equal to a whole big slice of catfish for 6 bucks and beer is 3 dollars in a bottle and great crab bites for 10 dollars. The paintings on the wall were great it shows a lot of the historical parts of VA great place for appetizers.

My go-to is the chicken wings. I gave a 4 star, and I will be visiting again to try more items on the menu

Southern Comfort was nothing of the sort. We walked in to dirty tables. Once the table was cleaned off, we ordered from the happy hour menu. I placed an order at 6:57 for catfish bites, wings, and fries. I did not receive the wings until 7:40. The waitress told me she would be back with my other items. I didn't receive the rest of my food until.....I NEVER DID. I asked for a refund at 8:24. The one star is for the manager, who never came to apologize for the 1.5 hour wait, who voided the check.

Food is very good, service is fast and friendly. I highly recommend if you like soul food and home cooked taste.

The restaurant is clean and staff are welcoming. My praise only starts there. A prior review called Southern Comfort a Diamond in the Rough; it certainly is a hidden gem. The food is served hot and fresh. The southern flavor eludes with every bite. I enjoyed the Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and broccoli; the cornbread is excellent as well. It is nearly invisible from its front shopping center facade, but don't let that stop you from coming in for a meal you would be sorry to miss. Donna D
