"In 2022, Southern Market opened in a historic building dating back to 1888. Once a farmers market, nowadays it’s a food hall and community space where vendors serve up schnitzel, sushi, pizza, and more." - Regan Stephens

Lots of great food options at this food hall, but by far the best is Pizza 211, but watch out because they run out at night sometimes! And great trivia nights Wednesday and Thursday - get there early, it's often packed! Bartenders in the middle are always so efficient and friendly. Great place!

The Southern Market is a great place in the heart of Lancaster City. There are so many options there are numerous vendors around the perimeter. Everyone can be happy with so many choices. Nice bar in the center. Ample seating and occasional live music!

Google
Great food hall with lots of choices. We ate at "Taste of Morocco and it was fabulous. Everything was seasoned well and the hibiscus juice was awesome. Had 2 different chicken dishes and both were spectacular. Meals exceeded our expectations.

Wow! Highly recommend! So many foods to choose from (Thai, Hawaiian, Indian, Pho bowls, Latin, pizza, gigantic hot pretzels, tacos, sushi, coffee, pastries and a full service bar! Feel free to dine in or take out.

First time at this market and I’ll for sure be back. There are many different food options that are not your typical American bites. I’m bummed I didn’t try small bites from each place but I’ll update as I go to new ones. We went to the Vietnamese shop because it was cold and all I really wanted was soup. We got the vegetable pho which was flavorful, not a lot of noodle, but had decent amount of toppings, although I wish I had a lime with it. We got the tofu banh mi which had a good amount of flavor. It could have used more of the pickled veg- they seemed a little stingy on that and the tofu was fried a little too long but the actual sauce they tossed the tofu in was delish. It had a little bit of heat to it so if you don’t like spicy maybe stay away. The shrimp summer rolls were fresh and the sauce they give with it was interesting but in a good way. It had notes of the traditional peanut sauce but seemed a little more soy sauce based and thinner than the traditional peanut sauce that comes with it. The vegetable spring rolls were strange. They were grainy and had a few pieces of carrots in it. I wouldn’t get it again. It was served with a sweet chili sauce. They are a bit on the pricier side but I’d at least reccomend trying the pho and summer rolls if I had to choose between everything ordered.

Great selection of food vendors of all sorts with a really good bar on the middle

Google
Is a neat setup that has a bunch of different food vendors of different ethnicities. Can try out foods that one wouldn’t normally try. Has a cafeteria setup as far as seating goes. Always seems like there are tables available, plus has a cool little bar in the center of it. Facility is spacious and clean. Has spots for your dishes as well as ice cold water and glasses. Have been here a hand full of times and keep trying new dishes. Haven’t been disappointed yet. Highly recommend checking it out!

Yelp
I loved this spot!! This is a perfect option for a date night or a night out with a big group of people. My team and I were in Lancaster for an event and we went to this food hall. There was 14 of us, so this was perfect for us. There are so many vendor options to choose from. We all tried things from different vendors and everyone raved about their food. Some of us got the taco spot, some of us got the pho, some of us got the Latin food, some of us got the Thai food and I got the poke bowl from the sushi vendor. The sushi spot was exactly what I hoped it would be. It was fresh and so great. It did take about 20-30 minutes to get my food, but I didn't mind waiting. There are a lot of seating options. They even had a trivia night going on. This is a great spot.

Yelp
There is a pho restaurant here and it's honestly the worst pho I've ever tasted, probably better if it were marketed as a beef soup. When I got my order, they didn't even bother telling me ahead of time that they "ran out of spoons" so I had to eat soup with wooden chopsticks. The overall space is nice but some of the tables were dirty and menu selections were very limited. I'd probably try this place again but I'd highly recommend passing on the pho place!

Yelp
If you read any of my reviews, Kelly, you know what I am going to say here. This spot had some killer vibes to it with a band throwing down some 90's/00's jams while sharing some really interesting yet delicious cocktails. It is a great place to start your night out in Lancaster or even a place to take the family as there are so many different food options. It would be a 5/( for me if there were a fully vegan restaurant there or even more vegan options. The food looked good though! Bartenders were spot on with their cocktails and service.

Yelp
I loved it at Southern Market! We visited Flavors of Morocco for some Mango Lassi and Lemongrass for some Drunken Noodles with Chicken and Thai Coconut Peanut Sauce. First off, the inside of the place is beautiful, and there's lots of room and seating. Service was quick, and it always makes me happy when a store uses buzzers instead of text messages. The Mango Lassi from Flavors Of Morocco was delicious, not too sweet while still being indulgent. The Drunken Noodles with Chicken and Thai Coconut Peanut sauce from Lemongrass were DELICIOUS and SPICY!! (So good in fact I forgot to take a picture until it was halfway devoured). Pro tip, do NOT skip the Thai coconut peanut sauce it is so good. Can't wait to come back and try some other vendors!

Yelp
This is a beautiful space, bright, and wonderfully decorated. They have music playing on low volume, string lighting, some greenery, and tons of seating. The bar area is stunning, as are the high ceilings. I was impressed by both the offering of cuisines across the kitchen concepts and the cleanliness of the public bathrooms. Any vendor we approached was friendly and quick to reveal any specials or popular menu items. I'd definitely suggest stopping in, if in the area!

Dustin E.

Yelp
Very nice concept and execution. So many great restaurants and different kinds of food. Lovely!

George Q.

Yelp
Fantastic Pho at Noodle King! Friendly and fast service. Great place to gather and eat great food.

Tamara G.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place after I heard it was converted into a food hall with a bar in the center. Lots of great choices of many ethnicities. It was hard to make up my mind. And a large bar in the center! I had a delicious Classic Salmon Poke Bowl, my friend had Schnitzel, another vegan friend had a Lebanese veg plate. Everything was yummy. You order & they give you a buzzer & you pick it up & grab a table or sit at the bar to eat. Everyone was friendly. Cocktails were good too. Recommended, especially if you're eating with friends who like lots of different choices of cuisines.

Yelp
A medium sized food Hall with a grand feel and atmosphere. We must have just missed the lunch rush around 1 on a Wednesday. Historic building that started as a Farmer's Market in 1888. A Bar area is in the center of the space with seating in the middle surrounded by the Food Stations/Vendors. The concept reminds me of the Time Out market approach where each Station is Chef owned. I have to say that I was impressed with the variety of food options. Moroccan, Detroit Style Pizza, Middle Eastern, Thai, Sushi, Soul Food and Colombian/Laos fusion to name a few. We tried Flavors of Morocco and Mekatos and enjoyed both. Service at both stations was excellent and engaged with Chefs present. We saw they also have various events (Trivia, Live Music). We found a street parking spot easily right in front. We will definitely be back!

Tim W.

Yelp
Nice selection of food stalls. Went with folks that tried different stalls. Sorry but names escape me - the Indian, Mediterranean, deli sandwich and Thai were all enjoyed.

Hannah L.

Yelp
At first glance it can be intimidating trying your choose what to order, since there are so many different vendors. What I did was made the rounds, and in addition to looking at the menus or food I could see at the counters, I paid close attention to what other people were eating. I saw a table of 10 older African American women in their Sunday best, having come after church it appeared, and they were all eating the chicken and Mac n cheese from the soul food spot. SOLD. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. The chicken strips were incredibly tasty, batter had so much flavor and a little heat (which I love), and the macaroni and cheese may have been the best mac I have eaten in years. The owner of the soul food counter was working the line and it was clear he loved what he was doing and was proud to be so involved in the nitty gritty operations. My friend got the vermicelli bowl from the Vietnamese food place, and she said it was really good too. (We're both originally from Houston, TX, so Vietnamese food and southern food are 2 things we have some high standards for!) I think this place has something for everyone. Once we ordered, we went to sit at the snazzy cocktail bar in the center of the hall, where they served us nice drinks while we waited for and ate our counter food. So nice that you can order anywhere and eat it in the ambiance of the bar, and they even brought us napkins etc and cleared our plates after we finished.

Yelp
Great spot! Went for a day date with my wife. I had the brisket tacos from the spot in the corner. Sauce was fantastic and the crunchy rice!!! Wow what a combo. The bartender and service were fantastic. Did step in puke out from at my car! Oh well !

Eric P.

Yelp
Great variety of good choices with an awesome bar service in the middle. Perfect for pre-show dinner at the Fulton or anytime you want a a variety of cuisine choices in a casual atmosphere!

Mandy C.

Yelp
We for sure enjoyed our experience here! So many wonderful food options, people were so friendly. We can't wait to visit again when we return to Lancaster. We live in providence and wish there was a place like this here!

Sam D.

Yelp
What a surprise! This market is the perfect spot for a night out! It's a self service food hall that has some amazing multicultural places to eat! We had to try as many places as possible! The sushi, tacos, and cheeseboards were are absolutely favorite things!

Philip L.

Yelp
I love the decor! Also they are open on Sundays which was a huge thing since we drove out here and a lot of places were closed! We got here and we had to make do, but the place was clean and stunningly beautiful. I can see the bar area as being a date spot and the door around definitely gives off a bunch of choices. You could have Moroccan, soup, salad, sushi, fried chicken, etc. or just cocktails. As a mixologist myself, the menu looked solid so I was very tempted to try. The downside was that I was driving and it was 11 am on a Sunday. The service here was awesome. I come from the city so the service threshold for me isn't too high, but here, they go out of their way to just be nice. I enjoyed it. It's clean and friendly.

Stefan S.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place! If you live in the area, try it. If you're visiting, try it! They have such good, quality, authentic food here. We got chicken from A Taste of Morocco, and it was perfect. The service was good as we received ed our food quickly. The atmosphere is also to be expected from a local place in Lancaster city, beautiful! You need to eat here; the vibes are immaculate.

Kylie C.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Quite the variety of foods to choose from, and they all looked and smelled delicious. Definitely stop by and check out one of the stalls here for a meal, sit down OR takeout options available.

Marilyn S.

Yelp
When we first arrived we were stoked with the variety of choices. Many cuisines from across the globe and all very authentic. After we ordered we realized there was no one actually cooking. Everything is prepared off site and brought in. Consequently our food was ice cold, French fries suck cold, and almost unpalatable. The only redeeming feature was the bar at the center of the court. Good beer and alcohol choices with very friendly staff. We won't be returning ever.

Cathy P.

Yelp
This is a must if you are in the area, we got food at 4E's Latin Cuisine and it was amazing. The quesadilla was awesome, the chicken empanadas nice and full, the yuca fries are so nice and crispy. Service is great, fast and it is super clean. You won't regret it!

Odm R.

Yelp
such a cool place with a lot of options. i went to the Syrian food place, got the falafel entrée and it was really solid. the rice was fantastic came with bread and the falafel itself was pretty decent. there's free cold water out which i really appreciate. the cookie place wasn't open yet but the owner was there giving out free samples hope i can come back when he's in business. he was very nice and the black & white cookie was great. overall a great experience i'd definitely come back

Yelp
We were just passing through the area, and decided to stop by and grab something quick to eat. Southern Market has a nice variety of foods to choose from, and since I am not from the area and don't know when I'll be back, we decided to just try almost a little bit of almost everything. First we stopped at Flavors of Morocco. I like samosas, so I decided to try theirs and the baklava. The samosas were okay, but too pricy. The counter had one price for the samosas, the menu had a different price, and then when I went to pay, she charged me $8 (a 3rd different price). We questioned her, but she didn't seem too friendly and insisted they changed the price to $8, so we just let it go. Food was just ok, but pricy, and I wouldn't return to this station again. Then we stopped at X Marks the Spot. The food here was delicious and the staff was really nice. He even gave my cousin a free water bottle. It made up for the lackluster experience we had earlier at a tasteless bbq spot. The Mac and cheese is so delicious. This station is a must, and definitely marks the spot. Next I stopped at Pho Life. I ordered the chicken pho. The noodles were okay, but the chicken looked grossed and had a lot of fatty skin. Would definitely not eat here again, and not worth the price. I tossed that one in the garbage. I then gave 4 E's Latin cuisine a try. For the price, the portions were good and the food was savory and fresh. Their passionfruit tea was also delicious. If I'm in the area, I would definitely hit up this station again. Overall, the Southern Market was a good experience. The ambience is nice and cozy, and there's plenty of seating. After a long day of multiple adventures, we got to sit back, relax and try some different foods. X Marks the Spot and E's cuisine are the spots to hit up here and the reason for my 4 star review of the market in its entirety. The other stations are ok and a little pricy. 'X' alone deserves a 5 star review. There's also a bar that seemed fun and lively, and other stations for pizza, coffee, and sweet treats. Maybe we'll try those next time.

Yelp
We were in Lancaster visiting friends so this was our first visit. They suggested Southern Market as a good place to grab dinner with many options for everyone. It was a Friday night but on the later side. It was packed so pretty much the second we saw a table open up we grabbed it. Then one person stayed as the table as others wondered to get an idea where to eat. The environment was definitely fun and the bar was packed and there was live music. It may be a little loud for some people's taste. I can't speak to the offerings at the bar as we had been to a few local breweries earlier in the day so were just there to eat. There are self serve water stations. The food is all cafeteria style and you receive a pager when your order is ready. There is pretty much any cuisine you would want and options for savory and sweet. There didn't seem to be clear indications about busing your own table. We did (there were bins by the trash cans) but many were not. Some of the restaurants within seemed to be fairly pricey with others more reasonable. I was pleased to find most places offered vegetarian options. We wound up getting a few different items from Cozy and they were all delicious. This place would be great for groups or families, especially with different food tastes. Everyone can get what they want but still sit together and even have some drinks if you like. It's definitely a different and fun experience.

Yelp
The transformation is 5 star! I used to work in this building and it's now unrecognizable. Light, airy, and modern - truly beautiful - but still honoring the historic characteristics of the old Southern Market Center. There is metered street parking and a parking garage across the street. The bar is in the center, featuring a local distillery for spirits with the food vendors surrounding the outer rim. I appreciate the ethnic options, support of small local chefs, and hope more continue to be added with the goal of introducing new flavors to the local community. My only suggestion would be to implement a better system for food delivery. Vendors should be using a buzzer system, number system, or some way to notify patrons that their orders are ready. If you are there with friends or run into friends and decide to move to the bar or another table, orders can easily be lost. Diners need to be notified that their order is ready, not the other way around.

Trisha B.

Yelp
Beautifully clean, lots of good food choices, yummy pho! My son got a poke bowl and it was HUGE! There's a big bar in the middle of the room too. Great for kids.

Lisha G.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere food from around the world I would recommend if you're in the area and your undecidable of what you want to eat. You can try a little bit of everything. when we were there. they had trivia night so it's anice spot.

Doug B.

Yelp
We are new to Lancaster (4wks), but we got a tip on this gem and decided to try it on a Friday night. It's quite a smorgasbord of so many cultures and foods in mostly one large room. It has music on Fri-Sat night and goes from Wed-Sun. There's a treat for any diet - Soul - Pho - Comfort - Indian - Pizza-MiddleEastern-Vegan - Mediterranean- and a great big bar in middle of the room. We has some awesome tomato basil and grilled cheese with pesto and mozzarella from Cozy. It was yummy! Then we had Baklava from one of the booths for dessert. So many choices it's entertaining just to peruse all the booths. The music was a jazz trio that was fantastic! It's worth checking out! Try it, You'll like it.

Marisol D.

Yelp
This place is delicious. Have tried quite a few things here from each stand and have had no complaints

Kendra S.

Yelp
We stopped by (found easy and free parking on a side street) after 6pm and there was lots of food options. We will have to come back and try some of the other vendors. Butter and bean had delicious cookies (could have eaten multiple!) and we enjoyed the mango smoothie. We also got pizza from pizzeria 211. This is a great addition to Lancaster city! Plus they had music trivia on Thursday night! I think general trivia is Wednesday!

Yelp
Unique treat with 12 chefs working in incubator food stations, anchored by a central bar in an architecturally unique space. Their focus on emerging and established chefs, each serving up their own specialty fare, whether local, regional, or international surrounding the bar. Just South of the crowded Central Market, this hub of international cuisine start-ups has been featured in the urban legend blog which brought us in for lunch from Peru...deliciously paired with local craft lagers from the bar. Another must stop while staying in Lancaster. Would imagine it's jammed in the spring and fall.

Jay R.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere of this place. I ate the chicken tikka masala from taste of Morocco and it was incredible. The first review of this place (3 stars) said they should use a buzzer system. They do indeed use a buzzer system, so you can relax while you eat your food. Highly recommend visiting.

Ray T.

Yelp
Awesome food court with some different flavors. We especially liked the tagine, but the BBQ and snitzel were quite good as well.

Lisa M.

Yelp
This is a really cool place. I met up with some family members who wanted to check this place out. I am not from the area, but I am going back! We enjoyed sushi, soul food, teas and coffees. No disappointment to be had! My grandson enjoyed a waffle with ice cream. I fully enjoyed a poke bowl. My son enjoyed some beautiful sushi rolls while his brother enjoyed soul food and a bananas foster waffle. My daughter in law had a waffle as well. She wasn't speaking or sharing, so you know it was good. I am excited to go back and try more!

Susan G.

Yelp
Very nice store and people. The product's Are very unique. Similar to maybe a Pottery Barn.

Lin Y.

Yelp
There are ten vendors under this roof! I got that from something I read and didn't actually have the time to count as I was making two rounds to scout out the food! The food vendors are very friendly and they really try to be helpful! Who knew I could find one of the best collard greens I have ever consumed from X-Marks the Spot and it sure did for me! I have tasted many all over the States! These collards had a nice balance of acidity and spices without being overly salty! Perfection in a bowl! It was a side to the BBQ chicken. For $15.95 the serving was generous and back home for me this plate would have been double what I paid. If you are in downtown, this is a nice food market to try! Place was clean and spacious! Bathrooms were clean and well maintained! There is an urban, hip vibe! Lots of tables to rest tired feet and get in from the chill in the air! There are stuffed waffles, Indian fare, Laos/Colombian, Southern, Greek and even a coffee vendor with a huge chunk of real estate! Construction was happening to expand the market. We went back to get one more round in but it was closed on Monday!!! Ugh! Not sure if that is the normal schedule or was it closed due to a holiday ! Check hours before venturing here! Also some vendors don't post the prices but this is true of other establishments too outside in downtown Lancaster.

Jason A.

Yelp
3.5 stars food was average cake from the coffee shop I wasn't feeling it. Chicken from the soul food restaurant was not hot but the flavor was good.

William H.

Yelp
211 Pizza at 100 S Queen St is a nothing short of OUTSTANDING! Spoke with Matt the owner/chef, he described his products, all freshly made. The pepperoni slice was thin, crispy and not chewy. Pepperoni was very tasty, sauce was not sweet. Matt isn't big on huge crust around the rim, he even allows the cheese to ring over making it especially tasty and crispy, the Sicilian also was off the charts light, airy (focaccia). I only ever ate the entire slice, crust included one time, this was the second!

Nate M.

Yelp
Very nice food hall! Drinks were great and there was a good variety of foods. We tried Layali El Sham and Flavors of Morocco, both were delicious!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Super cute place with tons of space to do work/snack on the yummy places inside. Ask the workers for wifi password. I got the chicken lunch and was very satisfied with the large portion size and delicious rub on the thighs.

Kelly Y.

Yelp
This is a beautiful space, newly renovated and opened for public enjoyment again. There is a huge bar in the middle of the first floor with food stands that line the walls. There is also a coffee shop just inside the doors. Free public wifi and tables scattered for you to enjoy your coffee or meal of choice. The food vendors are varied in cuisine and what one would consider emerging chef's trialing menu's while working out their business plans. We enjoyed some southern comfort food and a few drinks at the bar on a Sunday afternoon. It was pretty crowded even though it was mid afternoon, and we did notice security personnel amongst the customers. I'd imagine this would be an amazing venue for an event, it is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Dick W.

Yelp
Disappointing food, service, and atmosphere. Coffee shop in front has limited hours. Not worth walking on S. Queen St. for this destination.

MJ C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this market and the food stalls inside. It was two minutes from our hotel so it was very convenient. I reviewed the individual places I ate/drank at. The market is very clean and there's lots of tables. I saw them cleaning tables once customers left so the next group can sit.

Jesse C.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times now, and it is fantastic! Great selection of food options, amazing environment. They use a buzzer system now so you can order from any of the vendors, find your seat, and then you will be notified when your food is ready. Large portion sizes and high quality food. They also sell gift cards on the Southern Market Lancaster website. Amazing location!

Christopher H.

Yelp
Southern market has a variety of food offerings from around the world. If you leave hungry then it's your fault. Southern market has a very family friendly environment for people of all ages. All the vendors are extremely nice. All the food is delicious. The service is incredible.

Narisa J.

Yelp
The bar in the center of the dining area made the interior look very modern and upscale. There was a wide variety of food options open and available on a Saturday. Each restaurant had a few different options, but not every place had a clear menu displayed. X Marks the Spot had the "chicken and sausage gumbo" special listed, but when we tried to order they mentioned that they didnt have it today. They didnt let us know what they did have nor were any other food items or prices listed. Several other places were out of items at 1pm on Saturday. The chicken shawarma we did try was not good. The chicken/rice lacked flavor, the bread was shattering as I tried to eat it, there were large spice pods and cloves in the rice I accidentally bit into, and they were out of fries. Employees we encountered weren't particularly helpful or friendly other than those at the coffee shop at the entrance. Would only return for the coffee shop.

Al C.

Yelp
Great Latin cuisine. Atmosphere was great and the building was clean. At least 8 different food options.

Shira M.

Yelp
Had a great experience in this beautifully restored piece of Lancaster history. The stands offer a wide variety of choices. The Moroccan stand had a delicious beet salad! The poke bowl from the Asian restaurant was a standout!

Matthew H.

Yelp
Southern Market Lancaster is a great place to dine at during lunch hours. There are numerous options, such as a middle eastern place, waffle place, and sushi place. There is ample seating and a water station as well. It is conveniently located in the heart of Lancaster.

Denise M.

Yelp
I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to stop by. My husband and I stopped through this weekend and bought a dinner from a few venues to take home and share. X marks the spot.. WOW. What an amazing variety of soul food that is certainly prepared with love. We got Mac & cheese, collard greens (first time ever trying), sweet potatoes and the fried fish. Delicious. Flavors of Morocco.. outstanding! Chicken and rice with spicy curry.. to die for. I couldn't get away without getting some homemade baklava And we just had to get some beef empanadas from Four E's Latin Cuisine. Although I was a little disappointed they didn't have sweet plantains. Bummer. But I will definitely be back to try their Cuban! It looked absolutely amazing! Don't walk, RUN to southern market and support your local small businesses! They do NOT disappoint!
