"Inside Glasgow’s Southern Necropolis cemetery, you might notice one grave with tea bags beside it. These tributes are in honor of Sir Thomas Lipton, one of the tea industry’s most important figures. Lipton was born in Glasgow on May 10, 1850. At age 16, he emigrated to the United States and worked in various jobs, but soon returned to Scotland to help run his parents’ grocery store. Lipton proved a skilled businessman and built a chain of successful stores. To help supply these outlets with tea, he bought a tea farm in modern-day Sri Lanka and established his own tea company. The tea was often sold with the slogan “direct from tea garden to tea pot.” Lipton also sold some of his tea in a new style of packaging—the tea bag—a change from the typical bulk sale of loose-leaf tea. By keeping production and packaging costs down, Lipton was able to keep the retail price of his tea low. What was once a luxury was now an affordable product for the masses. The Lipton brand exploded in popularity. Though Lipton died in 1931, his company’s signature red and yellow logo remains recognizable worldwide today." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Not as interesting as the necropolis just behind Glasgow Cathedral but definitely worth a visit. Has some beautiful headstones and holds some great parts of Glasgow’s history. Unfortunately the council have left the graveyard to rot. Lots of trash left about, grass and bushes over grown and some headstones have been damaged. Wouldn’t take much too restore some of the beauty. If you enjoyed your visit to the necropolis or want to step back in time definitely worth a visit

Well looked after by a very active volunteer group, Friends of Southern Necropolis, who have an information board at the entrance. Visit if you have a relative residing here, or wish to see the memorial to some famous Glaswegians (including Greek Thompson - very odd grave). Some stones are down or missing now.

The cemetery is great apart from the state it’s in - overgrown and used as a pooping ground for dog walkers. It’s a pity the locals have no respect for such historic sites, there are a number of interesting tombstones, it’s just not as picturesque as the main Necropolis due to its layout and neglect

Not in a good state. It's falling into ruin. Name places are overgrown. Most inscriptions are fading. Grass not well maintained. Etc

Interesting just goes to show you’ll spend more time in the ground than u will up at the top.

Very over run with ivy and few of the grave monuments are still erect. Moody and atmospheric place for a walk or visit.
