I would give the following scores.|Hotel 3/5|The hotel is dated however, it is clean. We were put in the Courtyard area. Perhaps the rooms around the pool area are better? |Staff 2/5|This is the part I found the strangest. Every time I’ve visited Barbados I’ve found the locals and hotel staff to be generally happy, visible, and helpful. What was noticeable was that the staff at this hotel seemed unhappy and were noticeable by their absence, especially around the pool area. As an example, it wasn’t until|day five did a member of staff ask us if we wanted a drink. I don’t like being harassed when I’m on holiday however, five days to get noticed is a new record for me! This encouraged me and others to venture out and deprive the hotel of revenue.|I’m not sure what the problem with the staff is. Are they unhappy or are they encouraged by management to act in a very hands off manner? |I’m sure some guests love being totally left alone so they may have a different opinion to mine.|Location 5/5|The location was perfect. Right on a great beach where you’ll see plenty of turtles. The hotel is also within touching distance of all the great bars and restaurants on the Gap. |Entertainment 2/5|Sketchy. Went out every night but when I did pop my head in the entertainment was non-existent or tame. To be fair to the hotel they may have taken a view that because the entertainment is so good along the Gap, the guests would prefer to venture out.|Overall 3/5|Despite the average score I would recommend visiting this hotel due to its great location and the fact that the time spent in your hotel room is minimal. However, I would suggest booking on a room-only basis and enjoy the beach and pool area. Whilst venturing out for the great food, drink and entertainment that the Gap offers. Despite my score of 3/5, I can appreciate why those with a different set of requirements would mark the Southern Palms higher.
