23 Best Things to Do When You're in Singapore | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Southern Ridges is a 6.2-mile recreational trail that connects five parks along the southern ridge of Singapore—Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill, HortPark, Kent Ridge Park, and Labrador Nature Reserve. Like everything in Singapore, it's well-constructed and manicured. The landscape varies between jungle-like canopies of trees, unusual flora and fauna, and architecturally magnificent walkways. If you aren't up for the full five plus miles make sure you get to Henderson Waves, a timber deck lofted 256 feet in the air. It's the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore and beloved by photographers for its undulating curves." - Ashlea Halpern

Canoly walk→hotpark→forest park→telok blangah hill park→henderson waves→mount faber park→harbourfront mrt Tips: 1.Start your hike around 7 AM to avoid the afternoon heat. 2.The trail is quite easy to walk, mostly flat paths. 3.Along the way, you’ll see a variety of flowers, trees, and beautiful natural scenery.

Unfortunately Earth trial, Forrest Walk, Henderson waves & Telok Blangah Hill Park are closed since January 17th 2025 But still you find the pure nature

Very nice place with lots of walking paths. Definitely would recommend if you are looking for a relaxing walk and nothing too strenuous.

Looks a beautiful walk however, most of the upper treetop walk is closed due to landslides. You can still walk the lower trail on ground from what I saw

Had a good walk on this nice scenic hiking trail. The facilities are well constructed and maintained. This is really quite suitable for seniors to try hiking because it is not too physically demanding.

Exploring this quaint forest park offers a refreshing escape with picturesque views of Singapore city. At the end of the park lies a cozy cafe, perfect for unwinding after a stroll. However, reaching the park involves a considerable distance from the nearest MRT station, coupled with an uphill trek to the forest. It's advisable to opt for a bus, car, or alternative transportation. Unfortunately, during my visit, the forest walk and trails were closed for repair, limiting the opportunity to fully immerse in the natural surroundings.

Nice little string of parks. I wasn’t able to hike the full length because of construction on the forest trail, but still a great experience. Definitely bring water as it will be hot and many parts of the trails are exposed to the sun. Highlight was watching a couple of otters play in the pond at the river park. Best hike in Singapore!

Google
Very nice tree top walk from which you see an interesting array of forest flora. Not much fauna, though. Note, the eastern section of the Tree Walk and Earth Walk is under repair and cannot be accessed.

Yelp
Ventured into the Southern Ridges for just my second time today, and with beautiful blue skies and beaming sunshine it was just pure joy to behold Singapore turning it on, in all its glory. Around 8:30am I landed at Gillman Barracks, before sauntering across an interesting rusted bridge over a green valley with a gorgeous rainforest tree perched on its ledge; its expansive branchery spilling into the valley void. Ascending Alexandra Arch, I marvelled at its curved lines, and sharp stark white contrast against the soft baby blue of the sky and leisurely strolled over to meet my friend alighting from a bus on the other side; but not before a quick head-turn to the right to soak in the stacked-box scenery of "The Interlace" - a curious housing project consisting of 1000 apartments, assembled in precarious jenga-brick-fashion - it was named World Building of the Year in 2015. As you traverse through a myriad of spiralling stairways, this is where the Hong Kong feels hit you hard, spying steel skyscrapers from deep within the green forest foliage - a truly serendipitous serenity. Continuing the climb the wooden Henderson Waves greet you with a sardonic smile before you reach the 360-view vista and visit the Merlion at its apex. There are other avenues to explore - The Forest Walk; The Faber Loop & Hort Park to name a few. Take your pick and see where it takes you! [For the stat nuts]: This was a solid 13,500 clicks on my Garmin which suggests this is a great morning walk.

Yelp
An urban hiking trail that gives you breathtaking views of the city amidst lush flora and fauna + cool architecture, the Southern Ridges provides a workout for the whole family with plenty of stops for photo-opps. This is the glam version of hiking - so I guess you can call it gliking. All the paths are paved so you never once step on soil or gravel and the paths are clearly labelled so you never lose your way. Beginning at the Marang trail by Harborfront MRT all the way to either Kent Ridge Park or Labrador Park, the Southern Ridges takes approximately 2-3 hours or so to cover the 10km trail. There are definitely some more challenging inclines that might be obstacles for the elderly but you can easily get around it. For example you can skip the climb up the Marang Trail and just drive up Mount Faber and begin your walk there. Key highlights not to be missed: 1. Bridges - From Henderson Waves (the tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore) to Alexandra Arch, take a pitstop and admire the modern architecture that seamlessly blends into the natural surroundings. 2. Views - At the top of Mount Faber, you get gorgeous views of the city. Plenty of vantage points to take photos. 3. Elevated trails - Between the Forest Walk of Telok Blangah Hill Park and the Canopy Walk at Kent Ridge Park, elevated trails are a fun way to explore the parks from a different vantage point. With a strong cross-breeze, walking the latter is quite a "crouching tiger hidden dragon" experience. 4. Flora and Fauna - Be it all the nature you encounter along the way or the carefully curated gardens at Hort Park, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and smell the roses. I mean we didn't see any roses but you get the drift. The Southern Ridges personifies why Singapore is the garden city. It seamlessly blends modern architecture and city comforts with nature. It's one of the few places in the city where you feel you have space to breathe and just take it easy. I highly recommend it! One tip, do the route in the opposite direction so you end up at Vivocity for lunch.

Yelp
the hills are alive with the southern ridges. with songs of the birds all along the way. the hills fill my heart with the southern ridges. my heart wants to sing every song it hears. let's start at the very beginning........ plan for at least 2-3 hours, if you do not have half a day to spare, preferably in the morning when the air is fresher and cooler. my recommended course, for those cursed with a car, is to park for free at carpark B on top of mount faber and traverse westwards, towards kent ridge park, quickly without stopping for any photographic distractions, so as to get a good work out before returning to your car and then slowly taking in the sights. for those without the curse of COEs, an additional trek up mount faber via marang trail from harbourfront mrt station will be necessary but you will have the luxury of stopping as and when you wish and getting off the ridges at any point during your walk. if you did park at mount faber, do remember that you willl need to backtrack to where you started, so a good place to turn back will be kent ridge park. beyond kent ridge park, which location pin is now correctly fixed, the scenic value of the walk drops off exponentially! the southern ridges is to naturing what orchard road is to shopping! a really easy walk on entirely man made surfaces. the breeze, the scenic views and the closeness to nature, sans the mosquito bites, makes this concentration of nature a one stop walk. the genius of the man, who decided to bridge Henderson and Alexandra roads for a seamless connection from mount faber to west coast park, has to be lauded. the forest walk and the canopy walk are the other highlights that will make you feel like a giant walking amongst the trees and favourite spots for photography enthusiasts to ply their trade. telok blangah hill park and hort park are also worth exploring especially for their floral perspectives. the importance of these ridges also cannot be better showcased, in a strategic historical sense, than what a visit to reflections at bukit chandu can achieve. and if all that is not enough motivation for you yelpers, how about i tempt you with all the good food to be had at the various proximate stops along the way? in fact, we can quite easily do a UYE walking food trail just so that we can walk to eat and eat to walk!

Yelp
Came early morning with friends for a quick hike. Place is good for beginners, it's a simple walk on high walkways through a centralized jungle in the middle of the city. They do have trails called the "earth trail" that takes you on the ground path of the jungle. We didn't take that though. Their are wild animals there, they mainly mention monkeys but we didn't see anything. This place is near other hike trails and bridges that overlook the skyline. Def a good place for tourist to take IG pictures and drones.

Yelp
It really isn't very exciting - unless you don't get out into the country much ;-) It's a walk, but nothing more than that... Henderson Wave bridge is worth seeing if you are there, but we wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to see it - it's just a bridge ;-) Our recommendation would be not to waste your time and do something far more exciting instead! :-)

Yelp
Great park that makes for a fairly easy hike up and over the ridges for nice views of the forest and city. The view from Faber is wonderful. The Henderson Waves bridge is modern and funky. The forest walk is a cool steel walkway above the treeline on the walk down.
