My stay at the Southern Sun Hotel Dar es Salaam has truly been one of the best hotel experiences of my life.
As I arrived in Dar es Salaam I had an accident, which required an accessible hotel stay. I was honestly nervous about finding a hotel. I called several places and many did not have accessible rooms. Because of my injury and not having full use of both legs, accessibility was not just a preference, it was a necessity. I was worried about how I would manage. From the moment I arrived, those worries disappeared. My room was absolutely accessible and exactly what I needed before going in for surgery at a nearby hospital. I could move around comfortably, use the bathroom without difficulty, and get up and down safely. It made such a difference during a very stressful time. What stood out even more than the room was the incredible service. Every single person I encountered was warm, kind, and attentive. The front desk staff were welcoming and genuinely caring. I have stayed in many hotels, but I have never experienced this level of sincere concern for my well being.
The staff in the dining area noticed that I needed a chair with arms. After the first morning, they had one ready for me each day at breakfast without me even having to ask. That kind of thoughtfulness meant more than I can explain. While I have been in Dar es Salaam for medical treatment, members of the hotel staff have checked in to see how I am doing. After my first surgery, they even came to visit me at the hospital and brought a beautiful fruit basket. I have never in my life experienced that level of hospitality and genuine kindness. I am so grateful. During a very difficult and emotional time, they made me feel like I was not alone. They made me feel like I had family here.
The hotel itself is extremely clean, the facilities smell wonderful, the food was delicious, the breakfast had many delicious options and everything is well cared for. But it is the people who truly make this place special. I actually plan to return before I leave Dar es Salaam, just to stay again and see everyone before I head back to the US. That says everything.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I recommend this hotel one hundred percent.
