We had an amazing time at Sovereign Hill over the weekend! A special thank you to Andrew at the Wheel-Making Workshop — his knowledge, warmth, and passion really stood out. Watching the wheel-making process was truly captivating, and we were especially grateful for the time he spent chatting with us afterward. He shared fascinating insights about engineering shapes and some great historical tidbits from the 1850s. It was such an engaging and enlightening experience. We’re so glad we crossed paths — thank you, Andrew! We also had a great time speaking with the staff in the Chinese Protectorate Camp after his amazing tour. He was so friendly and well-informed, and we’re especially grateful for the insights he shared about John Alloo. It was truly remarkable to learn more about his amazing story through our conversation. The firing demonstrations were spectacular—both at the Government camp and on the theatre balcony by the redcoat soldiers. The magic show had us laughing, and we also thoroughly enjoyed all the hands-on activities like candle dipping, bowling, leather key-ring making, the chapel service, gold pour show, mine tours, and coach rides. Everything was so well done! We’ll definitely be back!! Next time, we plan to spend even more time gold panning by the river, attending more demonstrations, dining at the bakeries, and the light show we missed. Thanks again to every single friendly staff member - we’ll surely see you again soon!

Our visit to Sovereign Hill was truly special and worth experiencing ✨ The historical atmosphere, detailed set design, and live performances take you right back to the gold rush era. The organization is excellent, the staff are friendly, and the activities are enjoyable for both adults and children. One note, though — since we visited midweek, the place was a bit quiet and there weren’t as many actors available for the performances. Still, overall it was a wonderful experience, and next time I’d choose a weekend visit to enjoy the full lively atmosphere 🌟

I recently visited Sovereign Hill's Winter Wonderlights with my son and niece during their school break. After seeing intriguing reviews on TikTok, we decided to make the two-hour drive. The cultural experience was fascinating, and the light displays were truly impressive. We were fortunate to have packed lunch, which allowed us to enjoy a lovely picnic. While it was a memorable visit, I don't plan to return as I've already experienced it. Overall, it was a great outing and worth the drive for a one-time visit.

Very well designed historical living mining village /town. We really enjoyed it and it suited older primary upwards for kids with lots to do. Staff very helpful, dressed in costume. We found the bottom of the village to be all fairly ignorant of history hard sell shops with disinterested staff when they realised you weren't buying. However, the staff in the mine and more engineering areas were very very good and very knowledgeable when pushed hard with questions. We had a pleasant afternoon. The town is also worth a wonder around.

We had a great day out at Sovereign Hill with the kids – such a fun and engaging experience for the whole family! The highlight was definitely the gold panning – the kids loved getting their hands dirty and searching for real gold (and yes, we did find a few tiny specks!). The old-fashioned confectionery store was also a big hit – everything looked and tasted amazing. If you're debating whether or not to bring a pram, I’d recommend leaving it behind if possible – the terrain is quite hilly and uneven, and not ideal for strollers. I did notice a few available for hire on site, which might be a better option for younger kids. The Wizard show was just okay – the kids enjoyed parts of it, but it wasn’t as impressive as other parts of the experience. On the other hand, the playground area and the overall environment were fantastic. The attention to detail in the historical setup is really impressive, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our visit. A great place to step back in time and make some fun memories with the family.

We did the winter wonderland night show, its a good (but cold) experience. Ballarat certainly turned on the winter weather for our visit, so make sure you have very warm coats, gloves, scarves and an umbrella! The show itself is fun, lighting up all the buildings along the street, carols with Santa and an abundance of food treats to try!

Visited Sovereign Hills and had a mixed experience. While it was fun and educational, learning about history and gold mining was really interesting. The kids especially loved the crafts and candle-making activities. However, the entry ticket price felt a bit steep. Unfortunately, the toilet facilities were not up to the mark, being quite dirty. For the price, I expected better. Overall, it's a nice spot, but maybe a bit overrated. Still, the kids had a blast!"

Had a great time exploring Sovereign Hill. The place will bring you back an exploration of what was like in the past. The design, layout of the old buildings, costume of staffs and they are in character! A must visit place.
