Restaurant Review: Sowl – 92 Koornang Road, Carnegie
There’s something truly satisfying about discovering another local spot that’s worth returning to, especially one close enough for an impromptu night out. Koornang Road in Carnegie continues to grow into a vibrant dining precinct, and Sowl – Wise Cuisine is a standout addition.
Described as Mediterranean with influences of both Greek and Italian traditions, Sowl’s menu is thoughtfully designed for sharing—arguably the most enjoyable way to eat.
Starters
We began with the saganaki and were delighted to see not one but three different styles presented: the classic kefalograviera, a beautifully grilled haloumi, and an ash coated goat’s cheese. Each had its own character, and the accompanying house made pickles provided the perfect palate cleanser between bites.
The white taramasalata was another highlight—creamy, balanced, and paired with warm spelt bread that elevated the dish beyond the ordinary.
Mains & Sides
For our shared main, the rotolo filled with fresh ricotta and butternut pumpkin was a welcome surprise. Rich yet delicate, with a vibrant tomato sauce and a generous dusting of parmesan, it stood out as something both comforting and inventive.
We added a beetroot salad featuring both red and yellow beet varieties, complemented by velvety goat's curd. It was bright, earthy, and the perfect dish to round out the meal.
Drinks
A special mention goes to the non alcoholic Bourbon Sour, which delivered far more authenticity and depth than expected, a refreshing and memorable option for those skipping the alcohol.
Service & Atmosphere
The service was warm, intuitive, and impressively unobtrusive, staff were always present at exactly the right moment. The room buzzed with the lively hum of happy diners; while a touch noisy, it only added to the welcoming, convivial atmosphere.
Overall
Sowl is a wonderful addition to the local dining scene: inviting, flavour driven, and absolutely worthy of a return visit. A great option for both spontaneous meals and shared feasts with friends or family.
