Don't do it. Hear me out and trust me. My wife and I LOVED our stay at the hotel but the Spa was unprofessional and a rip-off, even if you have money to throw around. I purchased two 50-min. Blake massages + scalp treatments for our anniversary...and due to convenience, (because we were mountain biking, hiking, and staying at the hotel) decided to get a spa day here and not a place in town or the famous Ojo Caliente a ways away. Upon entering the Spa, the staff was nice, as were both of our masseuses - that's as good as this got. And yes, it looked very clean and how a spa should look but compared to the other reviewer on here, a spa with art and a pleasant staff and doing what they are supposed to do does not "exceed all expectations". The spa lady who greeted me showed me the men's locker room and when doing so, she walked me right into the locker room to show me the steam room, facilities, lockers. I thought this was alarming due to the fact that maybe another male client might be in there, but I assumed that *maybe* she knew the men's locker room was empty (keep reading for why this is relevant). Upon finishing my massage, I was absolutely disappointed...there was minimal times of actual massage and working my muscles during the treatment. Instead of massaging my hands, forearms, feet, and legs, the masseuse put lotion on them and then wrapped a plastic bag around them and then a heated pad outside of that. Then she took the warm compress and plastic bags off and that was it...not kneading of any kind, whatsoever, during the entire 50-mins...not on my neck, back, legs, anything. None. It was simply the masseuse's forearm pressure and then putting their palm on my chest or head while breathing. Relaxing? Yes. Massage? Heck no. The scalp massage (my first ever, so I was not expecting much) was ok...she put oil on my scalp and gently rubbed but then, again, simply resting her hands on my forehead for minutes at a time. I walked back to the men's locker room to take a shower and while drying off (behind a closed slatted door at least) another female spa staff member walked right into the men's locker room with an incoming male client without even investigating if the locker room was empty. I'm not one to be shy but this was absolutely unprofessional and I've never seen this before and here, I had experienced it twice in one visit. Had I been naked changing at the lockers just few away from the shower where I was, she would have walked right in on me. When I saw my wife after her massage, I didn't say a word b/c I didn't want to be a Debbie Downer and assumed I just had a rotten investment. Her experience was identical to mine other than the scalp treatment. Her scap treatment was worst...she informed me her male masseuse simply put oil on her scalp, wrapped her head in a hot towel and put his hands on her head...that was it...no massaging oil on to her scalp or anything. Her "massage" was identical to mine...no actual kneading and working on the muscles...simply light pressure and breathing. I guess I understand The Spa's pricing, especially considering The Blake Hotel and its Spa are both fine establishments, and who their demographic is. I spent nearly $400 for two massages and scalp treatments. (Go check their pricing and you'll notice that two massages and scalp treatments do not equal $390). The final nail in the coffin here was that the Spa automatically adds 20% gratuity to the bill for the masseuse AND the house. I didn't have the option to deny the gratuity as my receipt was all set. In hindsight, I probably could have argued for a free massage due to the fact that a female staff member walked right into the men's locker room while I was naked, but I was simply over it and wanted to leave and find the nearest margarita. Plus, I felt it was more important to post this message to you folks, to warn not to over-pay for this minimal service. If you want a better massage than these folks can offer, you may want to consider laying on a bed of rocks on the mountainside just a few yards away and roll side-to-side. If you want to get more relaxed than a lady walking in on you naked, save hundreds of $$ by putting clothes on in your private hotel room and go to the 192 within the Blake and order a whiskey.
