It has been about 2 years since my last visit to Qi Mantra and the layout is still about the same.
I did not get the same therapist from my previous visits as it was her day off. I was assigned to another person which was fine. Unfortunately the new therapist was not very experienced. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and tried to figure out if she genuinely was not very well trained or she just had not got into the zone.
I usually do not request to change a therapist and hardly do it as
1) I feel vulnerable with nothing much on me and with only a towel as a cover
2) I am not so exacting that I will do that unless they are really terrible
So while I was deciding if I can tolerate an average massage, the time was ticking away. I didn't know I was only given a 10 minutes grace period to change a therapist if I want to have the full treatment (was only told when I gave my feedback at the desk after the massage).
Finally the therapist asked (15 minutes later) if she was doing ok and I took the chance to tell her she was not getting the correct spot. Her immediate reaction was oh, I will get another therapist to attend to you. I felt bad and apologized to her and asked how long had she been working there. Just a few months was the reply. So I waited for another therapist. She came in and told me because the 1st person already did 15 minutes on me, then she would continue for 75 minutes. I booked for 90 minutes. I felt shortchanged as the first therapist did nothing much. She was more focused on keeping the towel on my head in place than the actual massaging, which I felt was done by the number a la paint by number style.
Luckily the 2nd therapist Catherine was way better and could tell which were my problem areas and she managed to get the tension out and ironed out the kinks.
Unfortunately because I was face down for the entire 90 minutes or so, I got up with a headache and dizziness. I have been told before that it was actually not good for the body to be in the face down position for over 45 minutes because of the blood circulation or something. After experiencing it first hand, I have to agree.
Now, I still think the therapists are usually good at Qi Mantra and it is really your luck on who you get.
My 2 stars is for the management response.
I think they could have responded better to my feedback instead of brushing it aside and saying oh, it is in the fine print. That I should have known I am only given 10 minutes to cancel a therapist. Frankly who would go to a massage place and think of rejecting a therapist before the massage has even started?
And 10 minutes is too short a time to assess as a few minutes are wasted for getting out of your clothes and getting onto the bed. Then add another couple of minutes when they asked you questions for the type of oil or areas to focus on etc. So you are only left at most with 5 minutes of massage which would include the "prepping" of the body which sometimes may take 5 minutes or more.
So now that I know of this 10 minutes cancellation of a therapist, everyone should just be alert enough to say I want a change if the therapist did not get your spot in just a couple of strokes. I still think it is a ludicrous policy.
P.S. There is no clock in the treatment room so good luck in knowing how long you have been there.
