The Hotel Karelia has a great location on the lake, which affords it wonderful views. The building itself is a remodeled Soviet intourist, which means it will be familiar to frequent travelers to the region. The hotel is perfectly nice, and clean, but it has no soul, and the rooms are small and lack charm. Still, the rooms are light and clean, with surprisingly soft beds, and have everything you will need, despite the cramped bathrooms. The breakfast, which is not included in your room rate, is not worth the $5 it costs, so I recommend you skip it. The hotel service is not really worth mentioning, although they came through when we needed it most by booking us a trip to Kizhi island, the point of departure for which is very close nearby. The Hotel Karelia might not be the best option in town, but it is not a bad one.
