One of the best hostels I have stayed in thus far! This is not a party hostel, so if that’s what you’re looking for, this is not the place, but it’s still very easy to make friends. The rooms are very spacious, you get your own shelf with 2 plugs, a night lamp and every bed has curtains for privacy. The locker is also HUGE but remember to bring your own lock. The common areas are great too! Multiple bathrooms on each floor and the hostel even has a cinema room, gym and a lounge. The kitchen is very big and generally well equipped for everyday cooking. Common areas are cleaned very often as well. You also get a huge rooftop on the 8th floor with a jacuzzi you can use any time. The staff are super nice, always very helpful and put on great events every week. Spent 3 weeks here and honestly nothing to complain about. Thank you and would happily come back!

My sister and I stayed at Space Hotel from 11–18 October and really enjoyed our time there. Our room was comfy, quiet, and had a nice view overlooking the old Melbourne Gaol, just perfect for us. Huge thanks to Jordan from the staff for helping me recover my lost backpack! I’d accidentally left it on the train, and he got in touch right away after being contacted by an officer who found my booking details inside. So grateful for his help, such a lifesaver! We had a small hiccup during early check-in though, the lady at the front desk wasn’t too helpful when we asked where the toilet was (we really needed to go after our trip!). We ended up having to head out and find a nearby restaurant instead. She did help us with our luggage storage while we waited for the 2 pm check-in, which we appreciated. Just a small observation: during check-out, the staff said the room was “all good” in under five seconds, which made me briefly wonder if rooms are monitored (hopefully not!). Probably just a really efficient system, but worth mentioning. The location is amazing: walking distance to Queen Vic Market, the State Library, Coles, Woolies, ALDI, cafés, and heaps of restaurants. Bathrooms could be a bit cleaner, but overall, it’s a secure, convenient, and great-value stay for travellers, couples, or friends visiting Melbourne.

Don’t even try to waste your and time here We chose this hotel because of its great location. It is outside the city, not crowded, and very convenient. The hotel itself is actually decent and suitable for backpackers and travellers, which is why we decided to book here. Unfortunately, our experience with their booking process and service completely ruined the stay. On a previous booking, we specifically booked and paid for a private room with a double bed and a private bathroom. Because the hotel also offers shared spaces, we made it very clear that we did not want a shared room or shared bathroom. We confirmed this directly with the front desk and service team and were assured multiple times that our booking was for a double bed with our own space. When we arrived, we were told that we had booked a shared room with a shared bathroom. This was incorrect. We had paid the full amount for a private room, yet were still placed in a shared space with a shared bathroom. Despite raising this immediately, the issue was not resolved properly. More recently, while booking again from Australia, the website displayed prices in AUD, so we reasonably assumed we were being charged in Australian dollars. Later, we discovered we were actually charged in USD, without this being clearly disclosed. This resulted in being charged almost double the amount shown on the website. When we tried to cancel after noticing the issue, we were refused a refund due to a 24-hour cancellation policy that was not clearly communicated. The service team then claimed it was an external agency booking, while the hotel said they could not help. Book at your own risk

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Space Hotel from the moment I was handed the room card by the friendly staff. The team did a great job keeping the place clean, tidy and comfortable throughout my week's stay. And with such a solid location, rooftop views and line-up of amenities and activities, it's hard not to contemplate extending my booking.p.s. for new visitors, don't miss getting into the rooftop's hot tub with a couple of new-found friends on a cold evening.

By far the best Hostel I’ve stayed in! The rooms are so great and well maintained & cleaned! The rooftop is absolutely gorgeous with great view of the city skyline, and you can enjoy the hot tub as well :) Overall a very social hostel as well, full of younger people traveling as well!

Had a great stay at Space Hotel in Melbourne and it set unfairly high expectations for subsequent shared accommodation experiences for the rest of my Australia trip! I joined for the night market trip on the Wednesday I arrived which was facilitated by the lovely Ben who gave us some great tips for other places to visit in Melbourne. Staff were all lovely and friendly at check in and checkout times. I panic booked a private room for the first two nights as I hadn’t yet done a dorm but I needn’t have worried as the size of the bunks and the curtains make it feel like your own reasonable private space with plug sockets next to each bed. There were ample showers and toilets and I think I only found myself waiting on one occasion and not for long. The kitchen is spacious and has an indoor and outdoor seating area to eat. The rooftop is lovely and we joined for the bar crawl for which there were beers on the roof beforehand! The picture of the rooftop view is below. I would totally recommend for anyone looking to stay in and around the CBD area in Melbourne it was in a great location and a lovely experience.

Google
5 stars across the board. I couldn't say anything about the non-executive and balcony rooms as I only stayed in rooms with their own bathrooms. Price-wise it's great value for money. Can't beat the location for the price you pay. The rooms are spacious enough and clean. It's near every place you need. The staff were always helpful and courteous. If you are on a business trip and need an affordable but nice hotel room look no further.

Yelp
Shocking customer service. Receptionists are rude. Supposedly bathrooms are cleaned. This was not so. Poor treatment. Low quality. Please do not spend your money here!

Yelp
This is a compact hotel that is sparing in most things found in larger chains. However it is reasonably price ,well looked after, busy and convenient. The showers are along the hallway and if you are an early riser you don't need to wait. I found it quite funny that I booked in for one and when I walked into my room there was a single bed. I haven't slept in a single bed since being a kid. Well I had a goodnight sleep and that's what is important.

Yelp
Location, location, location!! I had a private room with a deck while staying in Melbourne. I was able to walk to everything ( bus, museum, QVM) and since it's by the huge library I was able to use it as a reference point when lost. There was always staff at the desk. There's a huge kitchen if you wanted to cook your own items. My only real complaint is that the AC would not work at times which made my room pretty stuffy. The room doesn't appear to be the cleanest also but for the price it seems justifiable. I would stay here again.

Yelp
This hostel (why is called a hotel?) is one of the best hostels I've stayed at. Clean and a ton of amenities. Fitness room, movie room, coffee station, rooftop deck, this place has almost everything. What they don't have, though, is a friendly hostel staff. Upon check-in I was told the next night was available, but when I came back an hour later they had booked it. Most hostels I've stayed at have friendly staff that try to accommodate their existing guests and actually feel bad when they book a room out from under them. Not here... they just wanted to start an argument. Shame on them.

Yelp
Stayed there with a couple friends after a friends wedding. The rooms were really nice, had everything we needed. The space bar downstairs was a lot of fun, the food at the bar was super cheap comparing to other places we ate in australia. We met a lot of other people that were traveling and we hung out with them. The reception was really helpful in advising us where to go touring and party. They have many amenities, huge communal kitchen, a movie room, a full gym, rooftop deck with Jacuzzi, I didn't get to use all those amenities but it is sure nice to have them. I will post pics to yelp, as soon as I can

Yelp
In my opinion if a hotel offers a service, it should do it well or not at all. While the cleanliness of this place was spot on, the bar being really cheap and fun the bathrooms were fitted with soap dispensers which had been watered down by the hotel to presumably save money. If you want to stay clean at this place, bring your own soap! Walking distance to the Melbourne Museum, the free city circle tram, the IMAX theatre and the Exhibition building. All interesting tourist destinations.

Yelp
Space Hotel is probably the best hotel I have stayed in within Australia and internationally. Space hotel was an amazing experience just because of the market target; guests were staying at this hotel who came from around the world, and I met some interesting people. It is also the best because of the price and location. Close to big malls, markets, trams and restaurants to gain the full melbourne experience. I stayed with a friend and we booked a room without a bathroom to save money (bathrooms Inc showers are located on each floor for guests, mainly for backpackers). When we checked in we were upgraded to a room with a bathroom for free. The staff were super friendly. We had a tiny issue with our spa bath plug not fitting and they did what they could to get one! It's just an amazing atmosphere being there, talking to people on the roof top Jacuzzi area or smoking areas, passing by through the guest kitchen or even having a drink with someone at the bar! I guess if you're the antisocial type like me (I talked to people due to amazing pizzas and drinks at the bar) then you can just pretend not to speak English. =p If you're looking for cheap, clean and amazing accommodation I highly recommend Space Hotel and there needs to be more of them around Australia! There is also a movie room.. Whaaaat?! Yes you can flick foxtel for an awesome movie, a space to chill. If you want to be active there is even a gym! Pack your tights, ladies.

Yelp
If you spend enough time staying in hostels, it's hard to go back to the stuffy, starched sheeted, uniformed weirdness of big corporate hotels. But still, I always feel some hesitation when booking a hostel sight unseen as the quality can vary so dramatically and the websites don't always give the full picture. At the Space Hotel, I stayed in an executive suite, with a weekly rate of mostly $119 a night, and I could not have been happier with everything I got for such a reasonable price. I would go out of my way to stay here again. The room: My exec room was very spacious and I love that you get a private fridge and tea kettle. I also had an amazing city view of downtown and the state library. Sure, there are some things to figure out with using the key card to turn on the room's tv and power outlets, but hey, you're on vacation for adventure, right? Also, everything seemed clean an in order to me. Service: The people at the front desk practically climb over the counter to draw you maps of all the awesome Melbourne haunts that are just a short walk away, and they are there 24 hours a day. The very comprehensive manual in your room also has insights for every aspect if your stay, from cheap, close parking to laundry, and much, much, more. And while I can't speak for the shared rooms or bathrooms, everything I saw was clean and tidy and well thought out. Location: A 2 block walk from this quiet hotel and you are basically in the center of everything. In this neighborhood there are amazing little finds like Trunk (restaurant), League of Honest Coffee, Manchester Press. And if you need free free wifi, good coffee and a picturesque place to work, head over to the beautiful state library just down the street. Added bonus, they have exhibits on Australian history and writing. The hotel is also right across from the lovely grounds of a historic prison, and down the street from the rolling hills of a nice city park. So if you start feeling guilty about all that great Melbourne food you've been eating, you can go for a run. Transportation: 6 minute walk will take you to 4 car rental places all next to each other. You are also walking distance from trams - though I found that I could easily walk to just about everywhere I wanted to go. Major +++s: Space Hotel has an awesome rooftop deck overlooking a beautiful view of the city! And there is a mini theatre in this place!! And did I mention the jacuzzi?? No, not the one on the 8th floor overlooking downtown (!!!), I mean the jacuzzi tub in your bathroom. There is also a large shared kitchen and dining area, and washers and dryers w/ a change machine on that same floor. Finally, the front desk will loan you all the stuff you forgot - an iron, your hairdryer, utensils for the huge shared kitchen. (Americans, don't forget to bring a wash cloth)

Yelp
Well, I have grown strong interests in giving reviews on Yelp. Let's Tonight be the night of review spree! Space Hotel is reasonably priced for all types of customers, especially students. There are many facilities including the gym, kitchen, lounge, bar and many more. The reception was helpful and friendly upon my arrival. They have checked me in early, so I can place my luggages in the room before heading to the city! I have chosen twin rooms and most of its amenities are newly allocated and the television works perfectly after your shower rest. The only disappointment is that my twin room does not have a personal bathroom. Ohh well, it's business... Trading-offs are common when you want cheap stays. Definitely staying here again as I can book for rooms with personal bathrooms and amazingly they come in good values!
