The hotel may have had a glamorous past but now strongly reminds of a rather run down nursing home. Stale air, musty hallways and my oh my, what a room.
The room we first had was narrow, the bathroom was so small that you basically showered on the toilet (no joke), the only rather pleasant thing was the view. I think that the jail cells in Finland are more spacious.
It was an extremely hot weekend and the provided air conditioning was not only absolutely insufficient but came with a broken remote control (which we found out at the reception) and didn’t let us even set a temperature.
After very good! service from Aada who ran the evening shift alone we were able to change rooms despite it being after 10 pm.
The new room was utterly different from the first one, not overwhelming or boasting with luxury (not that we were expecting any) but what you would expect from a regular room.
The swimming hall is old, has rusty drains in the pool and doesn’t cause any excitement, the sauna is okay.
The breakfast was simple and had mediocre gluten free options, but on the second day a lot of items were out/ missing.
Given the price we payed (because of the opera festival that was going on in the city, which we didn’t come for) and the original room we had, I would have given one star.
As there was good service regarding the room issue and the view/ location are good, there is two stars.
