If you're looking for the best donuts in Lexington, look no further than Spalding's Bakery! These donuts are simply PERFECTION. Whether you're a fan of yeast or cake donuts, they have it all, but for me, the yeast donuts steal the show every time. Each donut is a masterpiece, from their classic glazed and chocolate to the cinnamon twists, long johns, and cinnamon rolls. They even offer an assortment of other goodies, including reasonably priced cakes! Every bite is nostalgic, transporting me back to childhood mornings when my dad would bring home a box of donuts. This local gem has been around for over 90 years, and it's easy to see why they've stood the test of time. The line out the door speaks for itself, and trust me, it's worth the wait. Their space is grab-and-go (no indoor seating), but that just adds to the charm. I'll happily wake up early whenever friends or family visit, just to grab a fresh assortment to share. To top it off, they've embraced modern times and now accept all kinds of payments. Spalding's Bakery isn't just a spot for donuts; it's a piece of Lexington's heart. Here's to 90 more years (and then some)!

Assorted dozen for $16 cash! Croissant style donuts! Chocolate glaze was my fav! Caramel long John was next up!

Google
The donuts were amazing!! I have never tasted such delicious homemade donuts before. Most important thing is to take CASH with you and to go as early as you can due to them selling out pretty fast. I tried the glazed and chocolate donuts today..me and my family absolutely loved each and every bit of them.

Google
Customer service this morning, 8/14/25 was lacking to say the least. The person who gathered my order was extremely unfriendly and threw my donuts in the box. The food taste stale. IMO it doesn't compare to a delicious Krispy Kreme donut. And Krispy Kreme has excellent customer service every time I visit.

Alyssa Dean

Google
Our experience was fine, service was totally fine -- honestly surprised at how greasy and heavy all the donuts and pastries were. It's a shame because the dough tastes great, but the fry seems off.

Google
This was my first time here, I will say the earlier you get their the more options you have. I ended up getting a cream horn, cream cheese danish, and cinnamon twist. All of it was extremely delicious and soft, I ate it over a few days, keeping it in the fridge and the quality did not devalue. Prices were amazing as well. (Im from Ohio so the things I got would have been way more than ~$2 a piece here.)

Google
This is peak glazed doughnuts. Absolute perfection. Workers are always friendly too. And as far as cake donuts go, the blueberry is pretty good. Each time we went, the glazed doughnuts were WARM. I can't wait to come back!

Google
I got several glazed donuts..excellent, but the carrot cake muffin and apple fritter were a huge disappointment. I expected the muffin to be from scratch and not a spice cake with a very small amount of carrots…no nuts. The apple fritter was a huge lump of dough with barely a nut or much apple. Extremely disappointing.

Yelp
Spaulding's is a "must visit" location to visit in Lexington! A quality stand-out #1 Bakery serving the Lexington community for many, many years with their unique quality, homemade taste, and simple but efficiently ran operation, right down to the smallest detail, to give their customers the best, quickest and friendliness service in town!! Do stop by for a taste of old-fashioned goodness right here! I believe you will not be disappointed!!! Enjoy!! Always fresh & tasty foods; whether it be donuts, crème horns, cupcakes or their cakes!! I love their cake donut varieties. Delicious with just the right amount of icing - a lot!! Whether it be their chocolate cake donuts, blueberry cake donuts, or their tasty old fashioned cake donuts each are filled with great taste and lots of love from the bakers!!! Service is "Always" with a smile. Orders taken quickly and are packed momentarily efficiently. Don't fret if you see customers lined out the front door - line moves very quickly as customers are served!!

Yelp
Oh my..... so much sugar, so many calories, and so many choices lol. My first visit to this wonderful bakery, a Lexington tradition for weekend donuts pastry, or heck any day of the week. Plenty of parking easy entrance very quick service friendly employees. Of course, we will be back for more wonderful pastries, but we'll have to pace ourselves because they're so good and so rich and so tasty.

Yelp
Ok. I was expecting a real bakery. This is more of a "kind of a donut shop". I had the raisin cookie which was stellar. My friend had a donut and she said it was pretty good as well. The coffee, on the other hand, was FABULOUS. Service was initially not very friendly or helpful but after some conversation it warmed up considerably. Was hoping for croissants or danishes and that was definitely not on the menu. Handful of donuts and cookies and that was pretty much it.

Yelp
Stopped by yesterday morning to pick up an order of mixed donuts for my clients. Quick service and they got my order correct for the mixed dozen. For myself, I got a chocolate milk and a cream cheese danish. The danish was one of the best I have ever had. When I walked into my clients office with the white box tied up in string, they immediately knew where their treats had come from. The donuts and pastries are always super fresh and delicious.

Yelp
Fantastic donuts!! Love the cinnamon sugar twist. The restaurant is clean. Easy to get to, and easy to park on site. However, they run out quickly and cash only serve barriers to coming here. Service was quick!

Yelp
So Spalding use to be my favorite donuts. I grew up on them. I now live in Louisville and don't get to have them that often has been a couple years since I was there. But today I had to drive through Lexington in the early morning so thought I would stop. I got there just as they open at 6:30 am. I got 6 donuts and was so happy until I had one. Well that donut was not from today so I tried another and nope it wasn't fresh either. I called and and told them I was just there and wanted to know when the donuts were made. They said they were made an hour ago. Well if they were only an hour don't know why they were so cold and I mean cold not room temp and tasted like they were from yesterday. So I won't be going back there again.

Yelp
So, my first time in Lexington and on my way out one morning I drove by this place and noticed so many people going in so I thought hey I need to check this out. It must be good. Upon entering I was greeted by a young black female. My interaction with her totally ruined my experience here. She was very flat, not friendly, when I told her it was my first time here she didn't seem interested. She told me what they're known for which are glazed donuts with a frown. I asked her question and she didn't seem like she wanted to answer it. She didn't even smile. I asked her if she was the owner and she said no and seemed like she was bothered by the question. I was going to buy more than one donut but after this interaction I just decided to buy one and get out of there. If the owner of the business is reading this, you need to train your staff to be more friendly especially in the morning but all damn day long. She was so sour I just wanted to get the one donut and get out. I got the cream cheese cinnamon doughnut. It was OK.

Yelp
Wasn't impressed at all with the Donuts.Apple fritters was so dry and little to no apple.Recommend going over to Donut world and learning how to make apple fritters.

Yelp
We loved the donuts here! Very fresh and reasonably priced! A hidden gem in the city!

Charles B.

Yelp
Worth the drive, worth the wait, arrive early to make sure you can get a wide selection! We arrived 6 minutes before closing and there were plenty of fresh glazed and powered.

B R.

Yelp
Best donuts in Lexington. I've been visiting this location over the past 20 years. It's cash only and there's always a line, but it's well worth the wait.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
How have I never reviewed Spaldings!? Some of the BEST doughnuts and baked goods in Lexington for sure. The bakery, on Winchester Rd, is a small establishment with no inside dining. On our last visit on a Saturday at 9am, there was no line and still plenty of doughnuts to order- but I have been when there is a line out the door and no doughnuts left to buy! Better to be an earlybird here. Spalding's used to be cash only- you can use your card now for a 3% charge. The prices here are very reasonable especially compared to other bakeries in town. A doughnut from Spaldings is a perfect treat!

Yelp
We stopped the other day while running errands and grabbed a dozen glazed donuts. We were excited based upon the reputation this place has. They handed the box out tied closed with string. When we opened it a bit later we were surprised to see donuts that were burnt, flat and greasy! We each tried one and they were awful! There was no flavor except for grease - they actually tasted more like a bad carnival funnel cake than a donut.... We threw everything away....yes, what we were eating and the entire dozen.... Disgusting! We won't be back and I'd warn you to open any string closed box they hand you before leaving! Good luck!
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
I've tried a few varieties of there donuts but the only variety I love is the glazed. They are soooo good. Best glazed donut I've had anywhere hands down. Spaulding's deserves the reputation they have in Lexington.

Bob B.

Yelp
Get their donuts warm! They always have fresh glazed and chocolate covered warm donuts
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Love them. Just wish they had kept the size of the original. Please make them bigger even if you have to charge a few more pennys.
google avatar

Nicolette C.

Yelp
The donuts hit the spot, reminded me of a donut shop back in Bardstown. The workers were really kind and the donuts were the star of the show.
google avatar

Alli C.

Yelp
We love Spalding's AMAZING donuts! The service is always fast and friendly, and the classic donut is MY FAVORITE. Get there early for yummy specials!
google avatar

Yelp
Great homemade donuts, love the glazed, prices are low and in expensive. Which more of tjese were around.
google avatar

Bryant B.

Yelp
They make the best donuts on the planet! The best don they have are the plain glazed, they are crispy, soft and not to sweet!

L L.

Yelp
Donuts are very sweet--kind of remind me of a funnel cake with icing/glaze. Affordable and very large donuts. Just super sweet.
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
For basic pain Jane glazed doughnuts, Spaulding wins every time. Simple, affordable melt in your mouth deliciousness consistently. Fresh, made daily- you can't go wrong. They are even on DoorDash for delivery on those mornings you want doughnuts but don't want to drive across town! The best service, If you do decide to go, you will be in and out with a fresh dozen in under a minute for under $15! I have yet to try anything other than their glazed and chocolate doughnuts but they do have a case of other sweets to try!

Ethan S.

Yelp
Got a glazed and a funk fetti donut. Glazed was pretty bland, funk fetti was better but still nothing special. Good service, good atmosphere, meh food
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
This is my go to place for classic donuts. The chocolate glazed and cake donuts are my favorite. Apple fritters are great too. I've seen the line out the door but it moves so don't be scared. Also they are accepting credit cards now. There is a fee but the donuts are worth it!!
google avatar

Brienna B.

Yelp
I'm not over exaggerating when I say the chocolate donut is THE BEST DONUT I've EVER had in my life. They simply don't make donuts like this anymore. You HAVE to try these donuts if you're in Lexington. I promise you won't be disappointed!!
google avatar

Micah D.

Yelp
The earlier you get there the better. We arrived shortly after church on Sunday and they were out of most of their items. But what we got was still delicious. These donuts have more of a classic feel as opposed to the newer-age donuts. The cream filled with chocolate glaze was awesome and so was the cinnamon sugar donut. There wasn't a line and we were in-and-out with quick, but friendly service. Inside, it's clean, cute, and also made me feel like I stepped back in time. Spalding's is also a great value! I paid less than $4 for 3 donuts. (Tip: bring cash!) I'll definitely be back when I'm in the mood for a classic donut with quick, friendly service!
google avatar

Chelsea A.

Yelp
Hands down best place to get donuts in Lexington. I feel like I remember them being a little larger a few years ago but still great! They are almost funnel-cake-esque, amazing! They accept card with a surcharge but prefer cash.

Theresa G.

Yelp
Spaldings has the greatest donuts in Kentucky. Delicious and loved by everyone but n Lexington. Revered.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Delicious donuts. We went late on Sunday morning and the selection was low but what we had was worth it. Cherry turnover was just as good as the next day.

Michele S.

Yelp
Service was very fast and the workers were nice. The donuts themselves were pretty good, hard to mess up a donut. Their apple fritter was different than what I'm typically use to. There wasn't a whole lot of apple-cinnamon filling in it at all. But the flavor was somewhat there. I wish they had more variety of donuts at this location.
google avatar

Kaira T.

Yelp
Best donuts in town. Now I see why I used to see people wait in line before the place even opened for business.
google avatar

Leah C.

Yelp
I usually am a cake donut fanatic but these yeast donuts are unlike any other you'll come across! I hate when you bite into nothing but bread with glaze on top these however are not the case it's hard to express in words therefore I implore you to try them out for yourself. I haven't returned to Krispy Kreme and I have no plans on trying Dunkin. Do yourself a favor and get the chocolate glazed as those are the best sellers in my eyes and I also could recommend you with the cinnamon rolls or a filled as those are classics Fair warning they do only accept cash no cards.. but at the price everything sells for you'll be making out like a bandit with the quality.
google avatar

Lydia S.

Yelp
After trying almost every bakery in Lexington, Spalding's has been my favorite! Their donuts are sort of layered, a bit different than traditional yeast donuts, but they're perfectly sweet and soft. The glazed donuts are usually fresh out of the oven which are best to eat immediately! What I like even more than their traditional glazed is the chocolate glazed. The icing melts in your mouth and the dough is slightly crispy on the outside which I love. I also have had the glazed blueberry which is one of my favorite kinds of donuts. I've been told the crowds are bad in the morning, but at 9:30am on a Friday, I'm in and out very quickly. These donuts are very well priced and worth the visit if you haven't been! Pro tip: bring cash!!

Sean M.

Yelp
The donuts are great. It's sugary fried bread that these experts have been making for quite a while, how could it not be good? Their donuts remind me of funnel cakes to an extent and, while still delicious, aren't my favorite "type" of donut. You can't go wrong with them, but they may not scratch the itch for the specific light and fluffy donut crave you have. As of the last time I was there, they weren't taking cards, so bring cash!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
by far the best donuts ever !!! the glazed donuts are my absolute favorite, they are flakey and less cake like, more crispy on the outside and soft layery on the inside. i love that they have a drive through and i enjoy getting donuts from here as often as i can! i would 100% recommend. Spadings has been in business for as long as I can remember and they do an excellent job at what they do :)

Yelp
Was excited to try Spaldings as I begin my "donut test tour" of Lexington's many beloved spots. Love the building - feels like tradition walking in. Easy parking and close to my neighborhood. Ordered the classics - glazed and chocolate glazed, and added a cinnamon twist for good measure. They were ok; not bad but not amazingly good. Also disappointing was the service. They were fast (I arrived at 9 so not much of a line). But the attitude from both women seemed less "thanks for coming" and more "why are you here". Watched them serve a few customers who were all perfectly polite and they just seemed annoyed that any of us had shown up to buy donuts. Will try again in the hope that I caught them on a bad day. An underwhelming experience at Spaldings; three stars are mainly for the lovely building.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
Learned about this place from the "locals" after recently moving to town. I was told that you have to get here early because everything gets picked over fast. That was true! There is a die hard crowd that floods this place daily, and for food reason. Hand made fresh donuts daily. This is the real deal. Parking can be hard, but worth it. People don't waste time though. They move in and out fast to keep things flowing. Worth the stop.
google avatar

Shonda C.

Yelp
So, I decided to stop by this location to see what the hype was all about. Upon entering, I had missed the crowd. The employees were so attentive and kind. I bought a mixed box of donuts and a few cupcakes. They tasted okay, and I gifted the rest to my homeschooling cousins. They were more excited than I was, and was excited to have a sweet breakfast.
google avatar

Ken K.

Yelp
Innovation of a tradition to bring socially appropriately distanced doughnut comfort in These troubling times. Same great doughnuts, a variety of apple fritters, cupcakes and other goodies are available at the new drive-through on the corner of Winchester Road and Heaven. Get here and soothe and lift your soul a bit with the bakery treats and get some for your family and friends. Never even get out of the car. 11.00 a box of glazed.
google avatar

Samuel S.

Yelp
Good donuts, fair price, quick service but you will have to stand in line in the mornings.
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Chocolate covered glazed are best anywhere! I have been here many times and I cannot believe the quality of the pastries here. There are many places to get donuts and pastries in this town and I have tried nearly all of them and nothing even comes close and I would highly advise those who want good food to stop in. They have got a very nice shop with a great selection and the earlier you get there the better chance or is that they will have what you exactly want. Dr. B
google avatar

Ryann A.

Yelp
I've lived in numerous big cities, such as Austin, NYC, and Memphis, and these donuts are unmatched! I love that they're a little crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. All of their pastries are also baked fresh and loaded with flavour. Make sure to bring cash with you to this Lexington staple.
google avatar

Klinton B.

Yelp
Best glazed dounuts in town! You have to get here early because they sell out every single day and when they do they close the doors. It's a cash only establishment as well so make sure to bring your bills with you! Come check them out for a unique experience.

Yelp
Me and the BF took a road trip first chance we got once state restrictions lifted due to Covid pandemic!!!!!!! Had the pleasure of stopping by this little slice of heaven called Spalding's Bakery in Lexington KY on our way through the Nada Tunnel to the Smokey Mountains for a little R&R... we couldn't actually go in the old time donut shop and peruse their glass showcases of deliciousness!!! We had to order by looking at their daily choices online and/order online pull up in the parking lot and pick up. It was early and we didn't order ahead of time. Everything we wanted was available and they were $1 each. We got half dozen for $6.00. SCORE!!!!! They were sooooooooo good. Their *cinnamon rolls ** are different than what I'm accustomed to in Chicago. They had a caramel glaze and much more cinnamon flavor. Just heaven!! * raspberry jelly yeast donut. *cinnamon yeast *Yeast glaze plain Apple fritter glazed & o
google avatar

Yan C.

Yelp
If you're like me, and are a plain GLAZED donut lover, you have got to try Spalding's! It is far superior than North Lime and Magee's. Glazed yeast is my absolutely favorite, but glazed cake is also finger licking good!! They also offer an assortment of other donuts like blueberry, cream filled, and other baked goods like cream horns and cakes. **Note: CASH ONLY!!!** One time I was here without cash, the cashier wrote me a "I owe you $___" slip and sent me on my way with my bag of donuts. I was touched by their trust and kindness. You bet that I soon returned with the money and for more donuts!
google avatar

Jeremy M.

Yelp
If you're looking for delicious donuts from a local bakery, Spalding's is an excellent choice. There is a reason theyve been around forever so swing by and grab one (or a lot!!) just be sure to bring cash because they don't take anything else.
google avatar

Aria H.

Yelp
Finally got to visit Spaulding's for their famed glaze donuts I've heard about since moving to Lexington. Went on a dreary Saturday morning around 10:30. There was a line inside but it moved quickly. I ordered 6 glazed donuts and a carrot cake cupcake. The donuts were perfectly warm! Overall taste was good, not too sweet. Donut was more on the funnel cake dough side than the donuts I'm used to. Glaze was super light but the sweetness came through. Cupcake was good, but not enough carrot in my opinion. Frosting was good, not too thick. Would definitely go back to try other goodies. Check em out!
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
I kid you not, these are by far the greatest donuts I have EVER had! I wouldn't lie about something that serious and I know the rest of the people that line out the door on early Saturday mornings would agree with me as well! Goodness! This place is God's gift to man kind! If you want a taste you'll have to get there bright and early before they sell out and ohhh don't forget to bring some nice green cash!! They don't take cards! Enjoy!
