16 Best Things to Do in Portland, Oregon

"You’ll want everything in Spartan Shop, a gorgeous Grand Avenue fish bowl filled with luxurious handcrafted homewares. Natural light pours through huge west-facing picture windows, and the spare surfaces hold treasures design-lovers will swoon over: oversized azure blue vases by New York ceramicist Judy Jackson, smoky black jewel vases by Danish interior designer Louise Roe, Thompson Street Studios’ handsewn abstract quilted pillows, and ethereal hand-hammered brass tea scoops from Japan. If you want first dibs on in-demand new merch, follow the shop on Instagram, where Currie Person first announces fresh shipments of Japanese tortoise shell lighters and BDB stack sculptures." - Jen Stevenson

Spartan Shop is a place I go to feel inspired. Not only is the work beautifully curated, each artist is represented in a way that feels like a gallery show. The purchases I've made over the years have been ogled over, carefully selected and thoroughly enjoyed once in our home. If you have a chance to visit in person, I highly recommend it.

One of my most favorite places in Portland. Not only is the showroom always filled with beautiful art, objects, and furniture, the care and relationships that the team builds with their artists enables them to show collections that you can't find anywhere else. Any time I need some inspiration, I come to Spartan Shop.

The owner clearly has fabulous taste in material things but certainly lacks judgment or character. Be sure that before you shop at a store that is named after anything related to a culture known for its 'military tactics' you keep your opinion to yourself because if your opinion differs from that of the owner you may not have the opportunity to adorn your life with overpriced meaningless things. If you happen to be someone she simply just doesn't care for, be careful because she may just cancel you…... I’m sorry I mean cancel your order..

The absolute prettiest store ever! I cannot say enough positive and incredible things about discovering this little gem in Austin. Everything about it has been insanely and beautifully curated from the dessert plants, to the incredible incense and candles, to the their magazines. This is my favorite store in the entire city for houseware items and gifts.

I ordered two beautiful sculptures from Spartan shop and had a wonderful experience. Customer service was amazing and my order was received very quickly. Such a beautifully curated store. Melanie

Once upon a time, I could walk into this store and find a beautifully curated selection at a ranging price point. It was the perfect place to find a small, but infinitely cool, love gift for a friend, or indulge in a spendier item for a larger occasion. Just before Christmas I popped in to find a thank you gift for a friend looking to spend less than $50. Nothing. There was nothing in that store for under $50 except some gift cards. I scoured, because I was in a hurry, but even the incense was above the budget I had mentally set for this gift. As I was rushing, I ended up getting the incense, and when I asked about an incense burner that was less than $30, the clerk had to go underneath the counter to find the cheaper version...it wasn't even out! Mercury on 2nd has an equally wonderful selection of products, and offers a much better price range. I was hugely unimpressed and forever put off.

4th time trying to purchase something online and the order has been "mysteriously" cancelled. I think the owner will only supply goods to people she has deemed worthy, which seems unethical. I would second guess any purchase from a company that is trying to enforce this type of demonic culture.

Great place to find unique gifts for the loved ones in your life. Nothing in here is "ordinary" and the staff was really helpful in pointing me in the right direction once I shared my wife's tastes. They also have an online store and apparel on the other side.

Yelp
This white box shop has a mix of vintage furniture, new home items and jewelry. The jewelry runs to gold hues which seems to be swinging into style, along with brass home items. They have a lot of white pickled oak too. Prices are upper end but this store is going to have unique items unavailable elsewhere. To me it reads a sunny Mediterranean vacation home for someone interested in Scandinavian design. They have a web shop, put photos on the usual socials and ship. And they run a decorating and interior design consultancy. Portland doesn't have many decorator showrooms like this. The shop is strategically located in an emerging Central East Side design district.
