We had a phenomenal tasting experience at Spear Vineyards today! We tasted two amazing Chardonnay’s, two classic Sta. Rita Hills Pinots and a delicious cool climate Syrah. Claire is the best and always makes you feel like you’re at home when you’re in her care. The view is spectacular and the tasting room is gorgeous. The wines match the quality and ambiance of the property. Make an appointment and go see Claire! She’s the best! THIS WINERY HATES CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY BABIES. My husband and I have been to the area many, many times and understand various wineries want to control the atmosphere. Some allow children and some don’t - which is totally acceptable. However, the policy should be one that is based first and foremost on safety and secondly on aesthetics. My husband and I made a reservation here for an upcoming December trip and were flatly told that babies are only accepted outside. When we asked what the case would be in event of cold weather or rain, the winery was immovable as they apparently don’t care about infant safety. Their reason being, it “echoes” in the tasting room. Tasting experiences are pricey and as such, they should be enjoyable. In the 50+ wineries we’ve tasted at in the area, we’ve never encountered a policy like this where a baby would be forced to sit in the elements and were flabbergasted. It just feels icky to support a winery that has a blindness like this. Especially as this entire area is very family friendly.

My very good friend invited me to a tasting as she is a member. We both live in the area a tend to visit and patronise the same wineries. Their wines are good compared with others in the same area. They do have lovely views too. I ended up buying 6 bottles of wine after my tasting. What surprised me very much was that I didn’t get the member discount and to top it off, they ASK for a tip when paying the bill. After 6 tastings I was a bit happy and did not notice the request for tip of 15% which I automatically gave (no question I would do this when being served at a restaurant.) so $57 tip for BUYING their expensive wine, and no discount. Outrageous!!!!!

This is a higher end winery with higher prices and higher tasting fees than anywhere else I went. The views are very nice and our server was very friendly and helpful. Somebody else commented that they have a lot of different wines and I didn't feel that way. What they had was very good.

We made a last minute appointment and Kat was so very accommodating. We were amazed as we approached the tasting room and loved the barn and ambiance. The wine did not disappoint. We knew that the tasting would be "backward" according to the normal white to red but once we tasted, it made so much sense. I appreciated that all the wines were organic. Great wines, great space, great wine producer, great conversation. I will be telling every one in the valley about this gem. Definitely a must.

Wonderful experience at the Lompoc tasting room. The property is easy to get to from the highway. The tasting room is large, simple but elegant architecture and not pretentious. The outdoor seating area was on the patio of the tasting room and up several hundred feet over the valley which allowed for a very nice and pleasant view of the vineyards on both sides of the small valley. The service was also pleasant and not pretentious. There were only two wines I enjoyed (and bought) but everyone has likes and dislikes when it comes to wines. Megan was our hostess and also the GM of the tasting room. She was very knowledgeable about the wines, warm, friendly, and accommodating. As I have learned over the years, there are many good wines but it is the employees at the tasting room that make the difference. Megan made all the difference in creating the "wonderful" in the experience.

We recently made our first wine tasting trip to this winery. We are from Seattle and it was recommended to us from a co-worker. We loved the land, wine and the service. The restored barn is an amazing structure. The Pinot Noir's particularly spoke to us. We joined the wine club and anticipate being part of the Spear wine community for years to come!

Very good wine and beautiful views . The winery is very classy and well done. The tasting is 40 each and bottles are 70 . Pricy but wonderful.

Beeeeeautiful property! The wines were very nice, I very much enjoyed the Gnesa white in particular. Claire is lovely and knows her stuff. Looking forward to visiting again.

I believe that you have to make reservations ahead of time as this winery is quite small but very quaint. When we arrived at the driveway entrance, you have to use the intercom to enter through the gates. Once we told them that we had a reservation, we were immediately let in even though there was a delay in opening the gates after speaking through the intercom. We drove up the hill to the property. Once we parked, we walked into the winery where we were obviously greeted. We basically could sit wherever we wanted, but the couch next to the window was nice with the great view. It felt like being at home with a great exterior view of the vines. The wine flight tasting is $25 a person but totally worth it. I thought their wines were excellent! I would most definitely do the tasting again and purchase some additional bottles to take home.

After a wonderful tasting and lunch at Presqu'île and on our way to SeaSmoke winery, we booked a tasting appointment at Spear. The location is beautiful, the Barn is a pleasant space. The tasting was however a total disappointment. We were only 2 couples, one indoor, one outdoor, on Saturday afternoon and but we felt rushed us through the tasting. I tried to slow things down by going to the bathroom but as soon we tasted the Syrah, the sale associate came with an Ipad to take our order. We bought few bottles and left. We came for a pleasant time...we got the door to door salesperson experience.

Spear is where you go to get away from it all with a beautiful view, delicious wines. Andre welcomed us to this beautiful tasting room! She is warm, down to earth and extremely knowledgeable of the wines at Spear. It was another great experience at the beautiful barn and patio. Syrah so amazing love-the 2019 Syrah! All Pinots you can't go wrong . The Gnesa Chardonnay is perfection. All wines make it worth the visit!

Great winery for ambiance, exceptional customer service, and a wonderful wine experience. Claire is amazing! The 943 Pinot and Block 13 bottlings are terrific and the best of the best in terms of production quality. Highly recommend visiting if in the Buellton/Lompoc area.

Definitely a highlight of my trip! Happy we made a reservation to this gem of a spot. Not only was the view amazing, the wines were great and service top notch. Jessica took great care of our group and made the experience that much more memorable. She didn't miss a beat with her knowledge of wine and bubbly personality. I highly recommend this as a must visit. I will be back! Cheers!

Fantastic newer winery in the Santa Rita Hills, absolutely worth a visit. Having visited Santa Barbara Wine Country for our anniversary each year for the past 16 years, my wife and I have pretty much hit every single winery in the area. We have compiled a list of favorites over the years and Spear has just launched (pun intended) to near the top of our list because of the overall wonderful experience we had this past Saturday afternoon. Setting up our appointment for the appointment only tasting room was as simple as placing a call from a mile away while we were visiting Foley. Both of the staff members working the absolutely beautiful tasting room were friendly, helpful, accommodating and generous. The tasting fee is a bit high at $20 per person, however, you must remember that this is an appointment only winery with very limited production. We even got to enjoy an extra glass of wine while sitting in the extremely comfy leather sofa looking out through floor to ceiling glass windows over the vineyard. We could have stayed even longer than we did. The tasting room as alluded to earlier is absolutely breathtaking. It's a converted barn of an old dairy and it's sleek and modern with great light pouring through the previously mentioned floor to ceiling plate glass windows. There's also a great, big terrace next to an old grain silo that overlooks the vines as well. Like at Demetria with its incredible vistas, I could easily spend an entire afternoon here. Spear currently pours 4 wines, 2 Chardonnay & 2 Pinot Noir...I'm no expert but the chards were the stars here; I feel perhaps that the Pinot vines need some maturing but we certainly did enjoy all of our tastings. We ended up buying a couple bottles of the '16 Estate Chardonnay ($35) because that was our favorite. We've already spread the word about a necessary stop here to fellow wine-minded friends and we look forward to following Spear's growth and success in the years to come. We also look forward to another visit soon!

If you like Pinots and Syrahs, take a trip to Lompoc. The vineyard itself is nothing short of stunning. Once upon a time it had a dairy barn, and the silo is what remains. The wines, poured by Lily, were a perfect complement to the views. The chardonnay is aged in new oak so it doesn't have the classic buttery flavor, but still has the familiar color.

***Please do not let the few amount of reviews keep you from visiting Spear, it is simply amazing*** My wife and I arrived to the private entrance of Spear on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Although we did not make a reservation, we were gladly greeted by the attendant, Carmen. We were blown away by the property as we made it up the driveway. The main tasting room is housed inside a fully renovated barn, complete with wooden vaulted ceiling, an aluminum bar, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and a lovely patio overlooking the vineyard. The owners did not compromise any small detail within the tasting room, and it shows. Carmen began us with two tastings of their chardonnays, Syrah (our favorite!), and Pinot noir. Spear's wine is exceptional, we even brought back a bottle of the Syrah (not as spicy and complex as warm climate Syrahs). Had we known how awesome Spear was, we would have tried to setup a tour; we definitely will opt in next time! If you are looking to avoid the big crowds and take in a different experience, look no further. I did ask why they had so few reviews, and Carmen explained they typically only operate by appointment and the tasting was still quite new.

Fourth visit to this lovely winery. The tasting room is fantastic and the views are beautiful. My friends and I really enjoyed all their wines, in particular their Pinots. Claire, the tasting room manager was wonderful. She is super knowledgeable about the wine and the region. Highly recommend!

People forget everything else along the 246 Santa Rita Hills corridor and visit the Spear tasting room. The wines are great, but the architectural renovation of the dairy barn turned tasting room is a treat to the senses. Absolutely beautiful.

Wow what a beautiful spot! Perched on a hill sits a modern barn style wine tasting room. Everyone who worked here was super nice. The wines were lovely. The Pinot was a huge hit but if your a Chardonnay drinker I think this is a must stop. Probably some of the best I have tasted.

Beautiful setting and so lovely that a young couple became engaged on the property while we were there. Sadly there was a bit of rain that day, otherwise the outdoor is a perfect setting for a picnic. But, all was not lost, we did see a lovely rainbow.
