This Southern City Transforms Into a Christmas Wonderland With Over 15 Million Lights—Here's How to Visit

"For those who like their Christmas spirit with a bit of horsepower, Speedway Christmas at the Charlotte Motor Speedway delivers pure spectacle. From Nov. 21 through Jan. 4, nearly five million LED lights stretch across a four-mile drive-through course, synchronized to holiday music on local radio. An on-site Christmas Village adds to the magic with Santa’s workshop, an ice maze, and plenty of festive photo ops." - Lauren Dana Ellman Lauren Dana Ellman Lauren Dana Ellman is a New York-based writer and editor who specializes in travel, lifestyle, food, and shopping content. I went with my cousins, and she said it was $50 per car. I wasn't sure if a light show was worth $50, but it turned out to be really wonderful. Before you finish the light show, you can stop and watch a movie or walk through another lit-up Christmas village. It's nice because you can take pictures with your family. You can also go into the indoor holiday market area to shop or have an adult beverage. They even have a free photo 360 booth area, which I thought was really cool. There are clean restrooms inside the market. Basically, it was worth the $50 for our car, and we spent about four hours there. Really nice hangout for a decent price. Also go early so you don't have to wait in a long line. We got there at about 5pm. If not be prepared to wait with some snacks in the car. Lol

This was actually such a fun experience. It's a bit pricey at about 65 dollars for a carload, but we were literally there for 3 hours and could have stayed even longer. Everyone was super friendly, there were a few little booths set up for popcorn and hot chocolate and whatnot. Fair warning though, only super nasty port a potties are available to go potty. Only negative of the whole experience!

We went to this event several years ago and truly enjoyed our experience. This past weekend we went again and encountered the exact opposite of enjoyment. - When you first arrive, prepare to inch through a snake like line, similar to waiting for an amusement park ride, in an empty field with only a few concession stands — no lights. - Once you’re in you’re in. No way to get out. - 1.5-2 hours later you’ll reach the entrance of the speedway. You can now see lights and drive slowly on the track. - If you’re planning to go to the Christmas Village, anticipate another hour of inching your way there in your car. - If you opt out of the Village there’s still 30-45 minutes of crawling through light displays before you can finally leave. - Total time: 3.5 hours of being in a line that barely moved. Only 50% of that featuring lights displays. Note: If you or someone in your car has a medical need or disability, there were no signs or directions I could see which indicated any available accommodations. This was an outrageously miserable experience, especially with children. Even more so that we could not leave after we realized how poorly the flow of traffic and handling admission to the event had been managed. Thanks for the port-a-potties. Just awful.

This year they had a whole new set of lights in Turns 1&2 infield. They had neons!! It was a pleasant surprise as this is a tradition for our family. Smart move to relocate the sledding to the village. Folks in the village were super friendly. We had a great experience this year. Only downsides, 1) The price went up; $50/car! 2) the audio for the movie isn't synced very well.

My advice spend the extra money for the fast pass, I couldn’t imagine getting in the regular line and waiting for hours. They make it fun. But I feel like there wasn’t as much lights as last year. They have definitely improved the Christmas village. We go every year just hope they don’t keep jacking up the price!!

Did y'all order the lights from Temu? I mean, come on! The lights from last year and the year before were way better, more coordination. The 2D framed lights suck, to be honest. At least hook them up to the show or put show lights around them. It was very cheap at the start, $45 a car. You can get the money for new lights every year. I hated this show; it wasn't magical like in years before.
