Guide to Visiting Glacier National Park

"One of the original backcountry chalets still open for overnight stays; reachable only by hiking, it is considered a once-in-a-lifetime, rustic mountain lodging experience that is difficult to reserve but highly prized by visitors." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. Amazing secluded spot to stay only accessible via a hike-in if you're lucky enough to score reservations. A 2 night stay makes the hike to Sperry Glacier easy. The food, staff, rooms, and service were great. We enjoyed being offline and the sun didn't set until 10p so we did not feel confined despite being without power. We really enjoyed the chocolate cake and lemonade as well as coffee hour where we played games.

Sperry Chalet, is a magical place you get to by foot, 7.1 miles uphill. It burned a few years ago, so it can be a warmer, less shaded hike than in years past. We have never stayed, but we stop here whenever we are feeling like a good, stiff uphill hard and a toe crunching, quad burn hike down. Treat yourself to a lemonade, sandwich, and who knows maybe you will even get to score yourself a piece of pie in one of the world's most magical places. Like Nike says, Just do it.

Glacier Park is a gem of a mountain range and the hike to Sperry Chalet and Sperry Glacier is filled with stunning beauty and magnificence. Our guide JD, from the Glacier Guides Company, had deep knowledge of the geology, plants, and animals in the park. He is a great teacher, both curious and giving and was a great companion to have along. The food at the chalet, excellent with fresh baked bread and pastries, had vegan options with perfectly cooked vegetables the vegan cook had brought up from her garden in the valley. It was a trip with meals of a lifetime. Thank you all. And thank you Glacier National Park Service for the meticulous rebuild of Sperry chalet. It’s so nice to see your reborn.

This place was awesome. Just awesome. We spent three days here. The staff is incredibly friendly and professional. The view from the chalet of the mountains is absolutely beautiful. You're likely to see some goat friends during your stay. During dinner, you get to learn about all the staff and some history about the chalet. You also get a chance to meet and get to know all the other great people that stay there. It was truly an amazing experience. A must do in Glacier

This place is almost magical! The staff is warm and friendly, and they create an atmosphere where everyone becomes family. The views from the chalet over the Lake McDonald valley are breathtaking and well worth the hike. Great spot to stop on the Gunsight Pass Hike. Accommodations are spacious, but there's no electricity and no bathrooms (except for out houses), but the chalet does have running, potable, water.

The staff here are terrific and where else are you going to get a comfortable room, prime rib dinner, and made-to-order breakfast after hiking (a minimum of) 6.5 miles into the wilderness? You need a reservation to get a room and to bed fed, but you don't need a reservation to drop your pack (or some of its contents) in the dining hall while you hike to the glacier and back. It really can't be overstated how hospitable the staff are. There are pit-toilets and running water, but no trash, you must pack-out your own garbage.

Fantastic experience at this rebuilt chalet - they did an outstanding job on the rebuild. Food was excellent, and service was superb. The hike to Sperry Glacier is one of the prettiest I have done in my life.

A friend and i made this a day hike, we climbed from Mcdonald Lodge ate lunch at this breathtaking chalet and continued on past Lincoln Peak. We then turned around and made the journey back, this was one of the more beautiful places i have ever seen. Staff were friendly and informative.
