I enjoyed the architecture and the design. There were a lot of people visiting on a Saturday. To visit this Cathedral, you do not have to pay, except if you want to visit the tombs underground. It cost like 4 euros. Finding a car space on a Saturday was challenging but eventually I found one. The Cathedral is a must see attraction in Speyer. There is a lot of history here which I love to find out. Outside the Cathedral there are lots of coffee shops for your enjoyment. This is an active church and patrons are requested to respect the ambience and space.

Amazing cathedral, just enormous! Well worth a visit. Speyer is a beautiful town as well. We were lucky enough to be there for the Christmas market as well.

Google
Fantastic history surrounding this cathedral. Beautiful, as are almost all the cathedrals you will come across in Europe. It is 307 steps to the top of the tower, but the views are worth it.

Visited this place on my way to the Techinik Museum. There was a Christmas market on the street which was also good. Loved the city walk.

The imperial cathedral of Speyer is one of the few remaining medieval structures of its size in Europe. The crypt of the cathedral holds the graves of the medieval kings and queens of Germany. It is an incredible place. It is definitely worth a visit

Google
What a wonderful Speyer Cathedral .the largest Romanesque church in the world! Construction began in 1030 under Emperor Konrad II and was completed in the 12th century. Also UNESCO World Heritage Site – It has been recognized since 1981 for its cultural and history. The Dom zu Speyer was once the tallest building in the world for nearly 100 years!

This is my favorite basillica in Germany! The Romanesque architecture and brickwork demonstrate the technical skills of the Middle Ages artisans. Be sure to visit the tomb. Just as a reminder, this is an active Catholic Cathederal. Please be respectful during church services and those who are praying.

Yelp
Magnificent cathedral in Speyer, dating back to 1061; a second construction phase in 1090 enlarged the cathedral, and you can see the different styles as you walk around the perimeter. Today it serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Speyer. We love these European cathedrals, such history; you step inside into a different world. You are reminded of how small you are in the midst of the immense, beautiful interiors that surround (no doubt intended to put early church goers in their place!). Words can't do justice to this cathedral, perhaps the pictures can give a sense of the experience...

Yelp
Large Cathedral in Speyer. Easily accessible from the pedestrian zone. A large green space park is located to the side with some parking spaces available there. Vaulted ceilings, paintings of the life of Christ, holy relics in the upstairs chapel on the right. Entry is free to the main sanctuary and a crypt on the lower level is four euro per person to access. Not open to tourists during confession and services, it's easy to visit daily.

Yelp
Speyer's Romanesque Kaiserdom imperial cathedral is the burial place for eight Holy Roman Emperors. Pope Pius XI raised Speyer Cathedral to the rank of a minor basilica of the Roman Catholic Church in 1925. It is more formally known as the "Imperial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and St Stephen". It is also the site, where the former Bundeskanzler Helmut Kohl, the "Chancellor of Unity" is buried. We came here, along with about hundred others from out Viking Gersemi long boat. We thought it was one of must see cities on our trip, along with Köln and Koblenz. The history of Speyer begins with the establishment of a Roman camp in 10 BCE, making it one of Germany's oldest cities. It's located along the west bank of the Rhein. It has a lot of Haptberg's history and it's worth a visit if you're in the area. In 1981, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List of culturally important sites as "a major monument of Romanesque art in the German Empire"

Yelp

Yelp
This cathedral is impressive because it is very old (almost 1000 years old), 8 German kings/Holy Roman Emperors are buried there, and it is a basilica. I know all of these things from Wikipedia because there were no signs or info. Maybe there is more in the summer, but we were there in December for the Christmas market. The cathedral is very plain inside. If you are in the area stop in for a few minutes, but don't go out of your way to see it.

Yelp
It's a beautiful and special cathedral in Germany. Officially the Imperial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and St Stephen, it is one of the finest Romanesque monuments in Europe. The main gate is very heavy and surrounded by 5 statues each side. Inside the cathedral, it is open and tall, tho a bit plain. There are some royal tombs down in the crypt. However, not really worth the money going in.

Yelp
Such an interesting history to this cathedral and the town of Speyer. Arrived just in time to hear the cathedral bell calling the worshippers to mass. I've never heard cathedral bells playing for such a long time, amazing. We explored inside the cathedral after mass was over, what a beautiful and serene church, (didn't take a guided tour inside). We were also able to exit the cathedral through the Door of Mercy, only opened at special times. Wouldn't mind being in town the next time the giant "chalice" out front is put to use!
