"Lush Drinking Oasis in Zurich West By day, this café and bookshop is a lovely place to enjoy an espresso prepared with beans purchased and roasted by H. Schwarzenbach, the Altstadt coffee institution. Come evening, it transforms into a popular bar among the creative types in the neighborhood. The best place to enjoy a beer or two from the nearby TurbinenBräu brewery is under the glass-roofed annex—full of lush plants, tables and chairs in faded primary colors, and a view of the Limmat River."

Great vibe, where you can work with your laptop while enjoying nice coffee. However, there's no AC, so it can be a bit hot!

Good place with a great vibe to hang out with friends. Place is spacious and feels like it has 3 different types of styles inside: For the book lovers, the inside and the outside.

Nice Café next to the Limmat with very good coffee or even a beer or a drink if you go in the evening. Very nice after a walk by the Limmat. The atmosphere in the Café is charming and it even includes a little bookshop which I recommend to have a look at. Often very crowded so you need a bit of luck to get a good table.

Lovely vibe with different seating arrangements outside & inside. Especially love that they also have a range of books and are close to the "Wipkingerpark".

Loved the carrot cake, the staff was very nice and the whole atmosphere there was very homie. Will definitely come back

Beautiful, warm atmosphere! I came for a late dinner on a Monday evening. After telling the man behind the bar I unfortunately only speak English he took time to explain the menu to me. I wish something like this existed everywhere. The food was delicious too.

Google
i like the place and cant understand the bad reviews about no laptop at sunday and public holidays. they try to do their best to serve both customer types (worker and non-worker). there are cafes just banning laptops at all or being unfriendly towards worker. so if you dont like the rules dont go there and go to a proper coworking. and btw maybe educate yourself on puic holidays once you are a guest in a country you dont know (eg whit monday or the monday at sächsilüte etc).

There is an integrated library in the bar, so whenever you go to toilet, you can have a good quick read of a variety of books! Furthermore the staff was very nice and easygoing, got to chat to! The terrasse is good to sit, unfortunately due to the location, you don't get much sun in the evening and also the traffic can gets loud, if sitting outside. However, there is also a terrasse which is bit behind the building, there it's quiter I suppose. All in all - Wonderful Bar! Would definitely recommend it.

Yelp
Great spot for drinks, coffee, or light snacks and meals. It's a coffee shop/ bar/ bookstore. Nice location with many seating options inside and outside. It's self-serve with many drink and food options. It's also a good spot for studying, working, or to relax with family and friends. I like this cafe a lot, and would recommend stopping by. The food and the drinks are okay, but it's more the atmosphere the scores the points.

Yelp
Great place to relax with coffee, beer or other beverage. Next to Limmat so you see people with dogs, baby or old couples. Even if it's a book cafe, most people here just come in for drinks and hanging out. During the day, you see some working/studying here. Good and reasonably priced cappuccino (can choose small 4.50 CHF or large5.xx CHF) and wine/beer (less than 7 CHF). Muslie was great but haven't tried other food. you can pick up some pre-made salad or sandwiches. Great to sit outside or backside to hang out.

Yelp
Super cozy cafe mixed with an interesting bookstore. If you've been to Phil's in Vienna you'll instantly know what I'm writing about. Good coffees, freshly made sandwiches and a positive vibe. Savor a nice espresso (or my favorite combination a glass of prosecco + a cup of espresso) and settle in with a good book. Superb choice to get some work done a rainy Zürich day

Yelp
Any place open on a Sunday that sells breakfast/lunch fare, booze, and books is 'mega' okay by me! We marched all around Kreis 5, worked up an appetite, and found ourselves at Spheres. My partner ordered the large portion of muesli served with bio-yogurt. It was tasty and nicely presented with two fresh slices of orange on top. I wouldn't call the bowl 'large', but it hit the spot. Interestingly, the muesli also came with two slices of freshly baked bread on the side which I promptly 'liberated'. I ordered a choco-gipfeli (read: choco-croissant). It was buttery, tasty, and filled with a solid hunk of chocolate. Mmmmmm. The coffee wasn't anything to write home about, but, hey, given all the other good bits, I can't totally complain. To my delight, I found amongst the books the 'Bibel' of all German cocktail books by Charles Schumann and bought it! A bit about C. Schumann: http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/schumanns_american_bar.html Check out Spheres, if you're due to visit Zurich!

Yelp
I love the concept of this place. Since my home had extensive flood damage, I was asked to move out for five days to remove flooring. As I missed having a home to sit in and finish reading "One Hundred Years of Solitude"; I came here bc I truly wanted to read this in the company of other people as I was feeling sad from being displaced from my home. Despite the title of the book that suggests solitude... It was very nice being here and I love the atmosphere. A happy customer! Four stars for: - Having a bar, cafe and food all in one. Efficient self service. Service is really helpful and super. They even offered to wrap up the remaining of my Gehackets dinner (nicely served w a sweet apple sauce and parmesan cheese on the side), bc the server was so concerned with food waste. - Seating upstairs that allows you to look at the Industrial neighborhood and directly at the Puls5 building (if you like Matrix views then this is your gig, otherwise you may find views, uninspiring) - Seating also available on the lower level within the small "bookstore" area. I sat here bc I wanted to be in the comfort of feeling like I was sitting at home next to my bookshelf. Near books, to have the atmosphere of living and breathing literature near me without the stuffiness of a library that does not allow drinks and food. I brought my own book to read of course. Looks like most of the books are in German. Natürlich. - Cozy environment. - Excellent (lengthy) hours of business. I took one star off, and it's not at the fault of this place... But some people come here to have intensive catch ups, so it's difficult to read and concentrate when people are non stop blabbing out loud right next to you while you have a book as if they haven't seen each other in a million years... So hence I decided to write this review since I couldn't read yet! :-) So despite the bookstore, come here to read at your own risk, maybe bring lighter reading material than books from Gabriel García Márquez... Perhaps a Fitness or Cosmopolitan just might do it!

Yelp
A great place for almost everything: Meet your friends for a sparkly soda, browse through a great book selection (all German though, like Merve and artsy books, etc.), or spend some hours reading/laptopping. They're also very family friendly so you can bring your little humans with you. The space is quiet big, with a seating area outdoors, a cool smokers lounge (well, if you still do) which is sort of an industrial-styled winter garden, and an indoors area which is half seating - half books/stage and features a huge metal bridge which serves as 1st floor additional seating. Pretty cool all that. The only downside: It can get extremely busy, especially on a nice sunny weekend when all the hip people from the neighborhood rush in. As you have to place your order at the bar, this might mean a very long queue. They have a nice choice of drinks, fancy soft drinks (mate and rhubarb soda, etc.) and a few decent ales. Considering food they only have little snacks as far as I remember, which are not overwhelming and might run out rather fast too. It's not the place to get lunch around 3 on a Saturday afternoon. But it's a really great space to waste some time or to concentrate on your masterpiece, while the buzz in the background forms a perfect soundscape with the excellent music selection. Very relaxing on every level. But also lively sometimes: Stay tuned for events - I've been to a science slam there and that was great fun too!

Yelp
I like spheres because of the ambience, the books, cards, their tea selection (organic) and wine menu. wifi available. It's close to the tram station and right next to the Limmat. I definitely don't come here for the coffee, just had a small latte with soy milk- it was more or less just foam & I don't like their soy milk. Staff always seems to be super stressed out and annoyed by the customers. Always busy on Sunday's. Hm- that's a shame since the spot is just gorgeous with the outdoor patio in the back.

Yelp
I nice coffee place where you can also buy books, cool concept!!! This coffee place is close to Puls5 in the undistrial zone of Kreis 5. The cool thing about the coffee place is that they also sell books. It is a very quite bar. Not too much happening, and I like it. You can go a sunday afternoon just enjoying a coffee and reading your newspaper. The outdoor seating (in the backyard) is very nice, you can also sit outside on the street side (but too noisy for me). The staff is not always friendly. It really depends who is working that day. If you are at this bar you can always go for a walk along the limmat (the limmat is right behind the bar). Just try it out :)

Yelp
Cute and cozy coffee place and bookshop - I haven't quite seen anything like it, with seats up a narrow set of stairs which allows you to overlook the whole place. The crowd there is quite varied: you get families, couples, friends enjoying a cold winter day indoors and catching up over drinks - as well as people there to work or study. It was full on a Sunday afternoon at 5pm, so finding a seat would've been challenging if my friend hadn't already gotten there. Ordering at the bar is fairly quick even with quite a few people there. Hot chocolate was tasty, and the tea was served in a really nice pot and cup.

Yelp
I love the cafe's vibe. It's right next to the river. It has outdoor seating and great coffee. I ordered some food like a macaroni pasta(?), and it was okay. Coffee and food came out to be around $23. People come for afternoon beer, study, or catch up with friends. Highly recommend

Yelp
Nice little café, with an integrated bookstore --- but I'm not sure how many people actually look at the books. I usually get a café crème, and I'll split a pastry or piece of cake; both work out well. Service at the counter is a little confused and a little hectic, but serviceable. I've had a couple looks through the book selection, and haven't been grabbed much yet; some coffee table books, some nonfiction, and some novels. There's a moderate amount of seating (there's some extra tables on the overhead walkway, which looks like the spotlight mount for readings & spoken-word events; in good weather the rear patio overlooks the Limmat). Too much traffic for me on the street-side tables, though. A fine café, but hasn't yet won me over as a bookstore.

Yelp
Great place to grab a coffee and a piece of cake. I like the cafe/bookstore's concept and the fact that there are lots of magazines and newspapers on site for the customers; also seems to be a popular place to study!

Yelp
Spheres has quickly become a favorite, local coffee spot of ours. The inside of the store is a bookstore and there's a generous outside section that always has seating. Most local places frown upon people lingering on their computers, but Spheres always has a handful of folks working happily as they sip coffee or eat any number of good, light dishes. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Cool cafe, bookshop, and stage. Come do some work, check out the book selection, meet friends for after work drinks or Sunday brunch. One of those places Zurich needs more of. Table service would be great. The food is healthy and tastes good, though it's generally quite simple.

Yelp
Super easy to find, I'd say its more a bookstore than a cafe, chairs are not super comfy like other coffee places but they serve very nice cappuccinos :) a good place to go if you wanna just concentrate on work. it without the crowd of a certain coffee chain

Stephan C.

Yelp
Great for having a beer!! But: they serve the most disgusting peanuts ever!! Taste like 69 yrs old!!
