The Best Beaches in Sicily, From Cefalù to Taormina

"Just a 30-minute bus ride from bustling Palermo, Mondello has a long, half-moon-shaped beachfront with stretches of white sand, colorful sun loungers and city folk cooling off in the waves. It can be shoulder-to-shoulder during the height of summer, when it seems like the entire population of the capital migrates here for ferragosto, but it’s worth visiting for the Art Nouveau waterfront villas and striking rock cliffs that sandwich the shore." - Katharine Sohn, Rosalyn Wikeley

Cefalù offers crystal-clear water, perfect swimming temperatures, and soft sand. There’s plenty of space on the beach for umbrellas and chairs, no crowding. The old town is absolutely charming, with lots of restaurants, shops, and lovely streets to walk through again and again. Prices are generally reasonable. A perfect mix of beach and culture.

the beach is beautiful, overpopulated, but that is normal. you can at least still find free beach area, not like in San vito lo capo. They even have a free shower on the ebach (thing that is on its way to extinction). it is a very open, in full sun beach. i was there on a clody day and i was ok, but on a regular day, make sure you get an ombrella as you do not really have shade spaces.

The best beach near Palermo. We visited in April, but it still had the “summer beach vibe”. Most facilities were under reconstruction when we visited but there were still plenty of changing places and sweetwater showers available

Beautiful beach! The views from every direction are amazing. Just amazing. The crashing waves are very relaxing. Parking at the lot is very bizarre. Unpaved, and barely any room to turn from the street onto the ramps into the lot. The only issue along the beach front is that there are many vendors around who will bother you trying to sell their goods like blankets, sunglasses, etc. Be prepared to be annoyed, even in the more private areas.

Would have given 5 stars if we weren’t constantly bothered by the beach vendors. Soft sandy beach with clear blue water. Great for relaxing and playing. There are showers along the wall. It can get quite busy but is a decent size. Very close to the city center which is great.

Definitely recommend spending a bit to visit one of the beach clubs. Chairs, bathroom access, and umbrellas. Very little public beach access. Beautiful water and white sand. Shoreline was gentle, could walk out for a while

Visited today and half the beach was closed, which happened to be majority of the public parts. This meant everyone was squished into 1/2 the size. Felt like swimming in people rather than ocean. Beach super cramped couldn’t spread out a towel and people constantly walking over you. No real explanation as to why 1/2 was shut. 1 guy told us “water pipe” and a sign said not enough life guards? Unclear. Also paid parking €5 for 2 hours, €9 for 5 hours and increases from there. Beach was sand, occasion rubbish and many cigarettes butts. Clear water and shallow with minimal waves. Good for kids if you can put up with a bit dirty on the beach. Photo of the nice looking beach we were not allowed on:(

We visited Cefalù beach, as it was everywhere like a great tip, on the way to Palermo. When we arrived at the public part, a red flag was flying and there was a belt. The private part with green flag was hopelessly full. We sat in a cafe and asked the locals why the beach was partially closed? The answer was smiling: sewage had leaked into the sea, and they had been waiting for several days for it to be "cleaned up", but the private business continued. 🤯🙈 1 star for beautifull view, but that is all. 🌞
