Spice 28

Yellow Curry Udon Noodle Soup $14 (block mushroom, bell pepper, celery, sugar snap peas, onion, carrot and black pepper) picked tofu instead of protein. Enjoyed this. The udon was smooth and had a nice bouncy texture. Good portion size. Had a bit of leftover for lunch the next day. Staff was very friendly, helpful, patient. Will be back!

I came for happy hour on a Wednesday and because sips is around the same time it was a little busy but the wait wasn't too bad. There are a bunch of tables and then there's bar seating as well. The music was a little too quiet for my liking but I didn't notice too much because the restaurant itself was loud with conversation. I got the dragons nectar for $8 and the spring roll for I think about 3 dollars. The spring roll was nothing special but it was good for the price. The drink was decently strong and my roommate and I didn't need another due to the size/strength. There is a credit card fee so I paid in cash. Also something I noticed on the menu is that it states happy hour is only at the bar but that's not true so I think it just was not updated. I will definitely be returning in the future for happy hour since it was so affordable.

Great food. Especially the fried chicken. It comes as all flats and had a hot honey dipping sauce. The drinks are large and delicious. I tried the cucumber Martini and a passion fruit drink. The first was dry and tart while the second was fruity and sweet. The ambiance was ok. It was extremely loud from the conversations and music. The service was fine, the place was busy so there was a delay.

Could not understand when I asked if the food was gluten free so I did not eat anything. Drink was good but service was not organized and server yelled at us because we didn't know who took our check

Folks, if you like Sichuan cuisine, this is your go to joint. With a little bit of hectoring, they can make a dish that will blow the top of your head off. For those without a death wish, expertly prepared Sichuan that can be toned down for the entire family to enjoy.

I would give this a 3.5 if I could!! The drinks were yummy and the food we got was great!! Everything tested really delicious and came out pretty quick. The food option were so good. Truly didn't have a bad bite. The drink weren't mind blowing, but they definitely have fun flavors. My problems were mainly with the service!! I was there for forever. We didn't place a food order until 45 minutes in. We went on a Monday, but the space was pretty full. They had plenty of food runners, but only one server for the whole restaurant. Obviously that was an impossible position, but even when I first got there before the crowds, the service wasn't the best. If you're interested at all, there are two single person restrooms in the bad. They were pretty clean and had paper towels!!

Spice 28 in Philadelphia is a great Szechuan spot serving up traditional Asian flavors. Very bold flavors and spicy. The Szechuan fish filets here are a must-try, and they deliver exactly what I was looking for--delicious, mouth-numbing spice to the tender, flaky fish. Great presentation. I also got rice and Tom yum soup. Modern design on the ambiance. Simple and minimal. The service is fast and the water stays flowing given all the spice.

Great cocktail list! You can't beat the happy hour specials. Just a good overall place to enjoy conversation with some company. Good cocktails+bar

Spice 28 is a great place for drinks, especially during happy hour. My favorites are the dragon nectar and passionate kiss. $8 for a drink like this is such a great deal. The food is okay. Whenever I'm there it's because the restaurants I wanted to go to instead had a long wait during happy hour. Spice 28 is never busy but every time I go, service is very slow. So it's a perfect spot to just grab a drink while waiting for a seat at a restaurant near by to open up.

Literally no place in center city does a cheap lunch special anymore - let alone an $11 one which comes with a soup and entree! (Only on weekdays tho) You cant go wrong with any of their szechuan style dishes. Their red curry isn't the best out there, but they will make it extra spicy if you're a spice fiend like me. Drunken noodles with beef is also a decent choice. Some of their apps, like the wontons in chili oil, could def use some work. Not the best ambiance but I just want my lunch special to go!

I am shocked to report that Spice 28 has been our favorite since 2012 and I am just now getting around to posting a review. Well it's never too late. Spice 28 not only has great food, but it's good for drinks, lunch, dinner with friends, dinner with the family and take out. My favorite items on the menu are the lettuce wraps, chicken wonton in chili oil, Indian pancakes with curry sauce and the Thai basil fried rice. I also love the Dry pepper style chicken. Food has been consistently good for the past decade. Service is always prompt and interiors clean and welcoming.

One of my favorite happy hours in the city, the food and drinks are always very good and affordable from 5-7pm, they do tend to have a long wait time so I always recommend sitting at the bar for the quickest service. The restaurant is very beautiful and the music is very good too. Other than the long wait for service and limited bar seating, I will always recommend, and not to mention the happy hour is everyday!!

The best lunch spot. You can't beat the value or the speed or anything. You're not getting gourmet Asian here, folks. But general tsos with soup for $10?! In this economy?! Cmon! Very disappointed with the food. To begin the price is a bit high for what they are offering. Food did not come out as expected. The food was either over seasoned, dry/overcooked or another problem. mango shrimp salad: 0/5 For a thai/asian fusion restaurant, when ordering a mango salad you would expect it to be mangos mixed with spicy seasoning and sauce. this is exactly what the name is, mangos on-top of lettuce with shrimp. a huge disappointment. this was $10 for something you couldve gotten better at saladworks. Satay Beef Skewers: 1/5 the beef came dry, no moisture at all. was very overcooked. took a while to chew. Felt like i was eating jerky but worst. 1 point for the peanut sauce. Dry Pot Lamb: 0/5 looks nice but doesnt taste nice. extremely salty, cant taste the seasoning or spice. feels like you licked the ocean floor salty. to make it worst, we also found a piece of hair in the lamb. Peking duck bun: 2/5 not worth the price, other restaurants have it for under $3 per bun with juicy and crispy duck. this was a disappointment for $9 for 2 buns. the duck was shredded looking like it was the left over of whatever dish they were using the duck for. Duck had a smell too. Drunken Chow Fun Noodles: 4/5 only saving grace of this meal. the noodles were a little dry but not as dry as the satay. beef was a little undercooked. seasoning for this was ok.

Lunch specials are amazing! Great deal! We ordered the udon noodles with chicken and added some soy sauce and chili oil to make it more flavorful. It just needed some more flavor. We also ordered thrice cooked chicken which was amazing! Definitely go here for lunch and you'll be full!

Pretty decent pad Thai options here. Pleasant atmosphere and quick service (we were in a rush!)

Good Chinese food, fresh veggies and veggie dumplings were great! Fried rice was a little dry but overall I enjoyed the dinner!

My go to here is the chicken lettuce wraps. My DD gets the roti. Food is consistent here. They have a very popular happy hour so I guess they are also known for cocktails. Quick & consistent service.

The food is always consistent in the service is fast. I go here on lunch a lot and continue to get consistent service that is reliable. I've tried many different things on the menu and think that most of the lunch options are delicious.

I'd have to say very disappointing taking out food from here. I got food poisoning ~1hr after eating their food. Pad thai was soooo dry, had 2-3 shrimps, portions were not that great, noodles were overcooked. Barely no sauce, taste was bland. I had their Pad See Ew too, it was more saucy, way too salty.

Stopped in for lunch to escape the rain and we were so happy we did! Food: Ordered kung pao tofu and drunken noodles with tofu. They accommodated our vegetarian preferences by removing fish and oyster sauce from the dishes which was greatly appreciated! Large portions for the price and decent taste too. They will adjust spices upon request. Service: there was only 1 server managing the restuarant and bar but he was so on top of it! Quick service and super friendly too. Street parking is available but scarce as this is in downtown Philly area. No wifi available. One restroom in the back for customers. It's a quiet restuarant. Family friendly! Outdoor and indoor seating available.

Besides having a solid happy hour menu. Spice 28 has several food options like the Curry Rice Noodles I had for lunch. It was warm with light flavors of curry and coconut milk with hearty rice noodles which makes for a comforting meal. The service is always quick and the ambience is fun. You'll find coworkers chatting after a long day or newcomers checking out the menu. It's a great spot for anyone in the area. If Sampan is too busy just come to Spice.

Foods on point staff rocks happy hour is the best in center city and lady's the drinks are great enjoy owner is great also Steve and mom rock . Also waitress and waiters are great and the host Dedrie is the bomb

I have to say I enjoyed my visit to Spice 28. My cousin and I met there for happy hour which is from 5 to 7. We took a window seat in the bar area and had the ginger Cosmo which was very good. The young lady bartender wasn't the most professional. She was cursing very loud in a conversation with another patron and was very abrupt with me when I initially approached the bar for a drink. Other than that our server for the rest of the evening was an absolute dream. I wish I could remember his name. The happitizers we ordered were the Ahí Tuna Dumplings, Indian Pancakes, Mini Wontons in Chili Oil, Cucumbers, the Spring Roll ( kind of disappointed they only give you one) and the Chicken Wings. Of all these we both enjoyed the tuna dumplings and the pancake the most. The fact that they have happy hour on the weekends is also a major plus.

Great food and service! Huge portions!! We got there right at the end of happy hour so it was busy but the servers were still very attentive. The bartender was amazing as well and did a fantastic job ensuring everyone had drinks quickly! Great spot:)

Good service, family own small business. Happy hour from 4 to 6pm. Prices are great for the size you get. Probably best in philly. The Thai basil fried rice and drunken noodles are staples of this place. The curry is so delicious. The penang curry is slight spicy with rich creaminess and nuttiness compared to the other curries. I like tofu best because it's such a soupy dish. Must stop by and try spot!!!

Really solid Chinese food! Easy, convenient and fast pick-up. Have not tried to dine in but the dining area looks nice. I had the drunken noodles and wonton soup here. The drunken noodles were AMAZING! The wonton soup was a bit different from what I expected from Chinese restaurants but it was OK.

Stopped by for lunch with a friend and wow I was impressed! The lunch menu is great, all entrees are around $9-10 which is a great price for Philly! I got the drunken noodles with chicken and I loved it so much, would highly recommend this dish! I also got the shisojito drink and I was shocked how big it was for the price. This is a great spot for Asian food and drinks in Philly, especially if you're on a budget. They also have a really good happy hour deal here that I'd love to check out whenever I'm in Philly next!

Went here for happy hour with a group of friends because the menu looked promising online. It says on the menu that you can only do HH at the bar but they honor it throughout the whole restaurant! So that was awesome. Also, I want to point out that prices on their online menu are a little bit higher in reality. They're still decent deals and the drinks are huuuuge, also they aren't lacking in alcohol. I tried the long island and the ginger cosmo, both were great. I definitely left feeling a little more than tipsy. As for the food, I only tried a few things on the menu but I enjoyed what I did try!! I think I would definitely come back again for HH!! I took a star off because they only had one working bathroom and it smelled like straight sewage inside of it. But I figure this isn't their fault completely.

Alright food, lackluster service. We came in as a group of 6 at 9:10pm on a Friday night. We were seated immediately with no mention of when they would close. Our server made us aware that the kitchen and bar needed our orders by 9:30. However, she did not say we would need to be out of the restaurant by 10.  We felt rushed the entire time as we were practically kicked out of the door at 10. I wish they were upfront with us when we came in about when they were closing so we could have gone somewhere else. Fantastic cocktails and I would absolutely come back for happy hour. I had the passion kiss, which was fresh and sweet.  Food was forgettable, neither great nor horrible. Would not come back for dinner.

Food is great as always, it hits the mark on every visit. Service is top notch with no worries to have. As for ambiance there are no Sound dampening materials to lower the loud. This could be very distracting or challenged when having a conversation across the table. I am quite upset because the clientele is no longer a mix type of people. Unfortunately a certain type of group is dominating this restaurant. Music seemed have change to accommodate their interest. I feel sorry for the workers at spice 28, they do a great service but the normal 20% + is rare. Go there to see what I am talking about. I now will just do take out.

Grade vibes for this Chinese food restaurant right in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. The food came out slow but they were pretty busy on a Saturday night. Ingredients were fresh the food was spicy the protein amount was a little bit on the lower side and the drinks were a bit lackluster in terms of presentation but otherwise a solid four-star place.

I am shocked!!! First time yelp has pointed us in the wrong direction. This is as gentrified as food can get, as far from asian cuisine as you need. Just an overall disappointing night. The food was all bland and subpar. We were here for our anniversary cause of the reviews and ratings but man did this hit us hard. Lemongrass coconut soup had no taste of lemongrass, not sure if this was purposeful for the palette of the neighborhood? But it was not good. The pork belly in chili sauce was not tender, it was tough, and lacked depth. It was basically store bought chili poured over pork belly and mixed. Finally the salt and pepper shrimp/squid was so tough and the batter was so mushy. There was barely any salt and pepper flavor. And it was placed on a huge pile of greens, even though there was only a handful of protein. The price is way overpriced for the portion size, flavors, and overall experience. We could've gone to Chinatown for half the price and better flavors, we wanted to eXplore and that was our fault. Beware! Only street parking if you can find any so best to walk, bus, uber. Best of luck, happy eating. We definitely will not be back.

This food was INCREDIBLE I would definitely recommend going during happy hour which is from 5 to 7 PM because their drinks are super affordable around $8 and they have a happy Tizer menu Where the food is very reasonably priced we got: - 6 wontons In chili oil for $4 - 4 dumplings in chili oil for $4 - one Thai Spring roll four $2 They also have a small hot plate section which has a pretty large quantity of food I really like the Dan Dan noodles a lot I thought it was extremely tasty and flavorful. Only $8 Their drinks are also filled to the brim and really strong which I really appreciated The only reason why I wouldn't give this place five stars is because of their service they were really really slow and they forgot one of our dishes and we had to wait 45 minutes for another dish and when they were serving the drinks they spilled the drinks on us which was really disappointing. But the food and the drinks made up for it. And the ambience was really cute and it wasn't too crowded for a Friday evening

We love this place! Great food and atmosphere. Service is great! We can during happy hour 5-7 and we ordered their famous crispy chicken wings, duck buns and our favorite appetizer there is Indian pancake with curry sauce! I can order a hundred of these they are that good! The crispy duck was ok. We liked the cold sesame noodles but we prefer more sauce on the noodles for taste. Their chicken fried rice was good and the shrimp was ok but my favorite was the Saigon beef-very tender tasty and delicious. Hello would definitely order that again. I would definitely be back! Great work!

I placed an order for pickup and had to wait because they didn't no about my order: I had to show my Orider at least three times. I got white rice and not brown rice per my OEder: music is loud when you walk in: Guy had attitude when I told him were there for pick up order.

Yummmm! This place had so many vegetarian and vegan options and they were all so good!! I'm a sucker for fried rice so I had to get the vegetarian basil fried rice. My friend and I shared a spicy cucumber appetizer and an Indian pancake (roti with some curry dip). This place has an interesting mix of cuisines but they all seemed great. My friend got the Thai curry (not pictured) and he really enjoyed it! Overall, ton of options, great portion sizes, and awesome prices especially during happy hour!

I have always enjoyed visiting this family run business with good, fresh quality items. My go to is usally the fried rice, calamari or ahi tuna. There are great menu specials for food and drink during happy hour. Nice size portions, cost effective and able to accomodate dietary restrictions.

Spice 28 is a great happy hour option in the heart of Center City. They have a wide selection of food and drinks on the happy hour menu and the HH lasts until 7 which is later than a lot of spots. When I tell you me and 3 friends came here and got hella food and drinks and the bill was only $100 flat. That's unbeatable. Service was good, drinks were good and the HH apps were doing what they were supposed to do albeit they weren't huge. But they were cheap! Lots of skewers, the garlic naan is bomb. Definitely check out that Caribbean spice drink they got too. Can't commentate on lunch and dinner but HH is a 5.

Spice 28 was a disappointment.... Made reservations for a Friday night. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the hostess and seated. This place was EMPTY which was shocking because all of the surrounding restaurants were packed. So we sit, look over the menu and begin to chat. 10mins go by without us receiving water or our waiter coming over. I finally flag someone down and he brings us water *whewwwwww this water was HEAVY on the tap and down right nasty*. Same person comes back a few minutes later and takes our order. I opted for the Red Snapper *tasty but way too spicy for my liking*. Due to the spice I was unable to enjoy it or finish. At no point did anyone check in with us, inquire about our meal or anything of the sorts. Once we were done, again I had to flag him down requesting the bill. The service was horrible which explains the restaurant being empty.

Another good visit at Spice 28. Chix Pad Thai and Satay Takeout. Needed to grab a quick meal before I'm off to work. Ordered through the Yelp App and ready in literally 10 minutes.

This restaurant was east to find for our Uber driver I was a little concerned when we arrived at 815 on a Sunday night as there was just one or two other tables seated My fears were quickly erased as the food started to poit out First the soups. Stunning how good each of them were and how large the portions. We tried 3 different soups and each person proclaimed t was the best they had ever had The main dishes were also very large and delicious. We shared all of the mains amongst the table of 7 and all were very good I would highly recommend this restaurant!

This place had really good prices for happy hour. However, it got really busy and the service got slow, which is understandable. I had the ginger cosmopolitan, and we also had several small bites that were all good.

One of my favorite happy hour spots in town for their good drink specials and appetizers. This family owned business offers $6 long islands and $5 chicken wings that come with a sweet & sour sauce.

AMAZING very very tasteful!!!!! They also accommodated to our needs very well because we are vegetarians. Great service!!! We ordered the drunken noodles and the mapu tofu. The mapu tofu was SPECTACULAR it melted in my mouth beautifully.
