Spicers Hidden Vale Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Sixty minutes out of Brisbane and you’re suddenly on 12,000 acres of bush where your phone feels irrelevant; I found the place more farmhouse with good taste than slick resort, with wide verandas, creaky timber floors, crackling fireplaces and skies that seem to go on forever. The old Queensland homestead is the social heart—guests drift through with a glass of wine, a chessboard, or nothing more than time to kill—while timber-and-stone cottages and cabins are scattered across the property, some tiny and intimate, others airy suites or multi-bedroom cottages with kitchens and verandas that feel like farmhouses you lucked into borrowing (insider tip: cottages 19–22 are where the kangaroos like to hang out at dawn). The property’s main draw is the bush itself, but there are thoughtful extras: two pools (an attention-grabbing infinity pool and a more forgiving second pool), tennis courts, a playground, surprisingly good hiking and mountain-biking trails, a rattling 4WD experience, and even a koala safari. Wellness here is embedded in the landscape—walk, bike, play tennis or simply sit on a porch with tea while kangaroos graze—and that relaxed approach is reflected in the vibe: a four-star retreat that feels like a luxury lodge meets Aussie bush escape, with rooms from cabins to cottages and rates starting around AUD $600+ per night; it’s about an hour from Brisbane and most guests I know never bother leaving, preferring day-trip options like Scenic Rim wineries or Main Range National Park only if they can tear themselves away."

Spicer Hidden Vale is a hidden treasure. Located in the most gorgeous picturesque secluded setting you can’t miss an opportunity to stay here. Enjoying this historic homestead with the kind warm welcoming staff, is an experience you just want more of. Our stay for our anniversary so more than just amazing. Our rustic luxurious cabin was prefect, cosy and welcoming with the local kangaroos relaxing at our back door step. The Homage was a lovely place to spend some time, whether it was enjoying the divine dining experience or relaxing in the lounge with a refreshing beverage from the bar and the adventure park is prefect for those adventurous guests. At Spicers you can do as much or as little as you want. From Nina at the front reception, Tim at the Adventure Park, Dan at the restaurant, Danielle at the Cocktail Masterclass to Adam at the Cheese & Wine tasting, this establishment should be proud of the staff that work here. They make your experience at Spicers by far a memorable one. We are grateful for their kindness, knowledge and warm welcome allowing us to feel at home.

Wonderful place to stay but if you are an active healthy vegetarian you will likely be disappointed with the food. The menu has one vegetarian option so not change if you stay more than one night. The meals are tiny so you will be hungry if you are active during the day. However the staff and chefs did make an effort and accommodate us with different dishes but you have to know to ask. The staff were wonderful.

I recently booked into a 2 bedroom suite that I had booked last minute after calling ahead to confirm it would be quiet, and suit our needs for a peaceful relaxing day/evening.||Unfortunately, the experience was the opposite of what was promised. The suite was noisy, surrounded by rowdy and intoxicated guests, and felt more like a Big4 holiday park than a relaxing getaway. This was very disappointing, as the whole point of booking a suite - and confirming the quiet beforehand - was to enjoy a peaceful stay, lounge by the pool and relax (pool was filthy, deck was tatty and the groups had set up boom boxes and were enjoying BYO cases of corona!) ||We were able to move, but to a much smaller room, which was annoying, only to be woken at 3am by a drunk guest trying to get into our room (his lodgings were next door)||I would strongly suggest clearer communication about the environment for future guests, and if there is a large group or groups staying, perhaps block the remaining rooms, instead of maximizing occupancy, as this experience was not at all what was expected or advertised.||The front desk staff were amazing, but even with a|"heavily" discounted rate - It was still not worth the price or the stress. ||Front Desk told me to call them|Directly to book, as they wanted to make it right - apparently we would receive a special 10% discount, that only they could offer, 3 days later a generic “come back email was sent” offering 10% off!||Dinner was dreadful and I am quite unsure how they have any hats, it was basic precooked food, with a fancy name and description for example “Gatton ghost gully leaves + smokehouse dressing” translated to a bowl of lettuce, which was clearly from a bag (we saw them opening it in the kitchen) and had not one iota of dressing! - similar with the mains, what turned up was far from the promise on the menu - my favourite part was when we left.

An incredible experience. My partner and I stayed for 2 nights, he planned a surprise proposal for me, and with the help of all of the staff, the experience was absolutely incredible. Jo, the 4x4 tour guide, was so much fun to explore with, he was interested and interesting, he was so grateful to be a part of the engagement and to film it for us, I’m not sure that anyone else would have made the experience as special as he did. As for the restaurant, all the staff were so amazing. Every single one congratulated us privately, and our service was 10/10. The food and dining experience was amazing. The room was beautiful, it was private and the view was spectacular. It was super clean and luxurious. Dan, the GM, really made us feel special and made our stay even more unforgettable. Nothing was a hassle for him, he was genuinely happy for us. What an incredible team of people and an incredible place. We would love to come back ASAP!

We had an incredible two-night stay at Spicers Hiddenvale. From the moment we arrived, the service was 10/10—Nina went above and beyond to fix a booking hiccup and even greeted us by name on arrival, which made us feel so welcomed. Our luxury cabin was stunning—comfortable, private, and the open fireplace was a definite highlight. We also loved the activities available. The mountain biking trails were a lot of fun (and a great workout—we’re still feeling it!). But the real standout was the food. Homage Restaurant served some of the best food we've had anywhere, and we’ve travelled quite a bit. The steak was absolutely flawless, and the breakfasts were fresh and full of thoughtful touches like freshly squeezed juices. We’ll absolutely be back. Highly recommend for a relaxing, high-quality escape with amazing food and service.

We had an overnight stay to celebrate our anniversary. The pre-check in was thorough to ensure all our requests were catered for before we arrived. Or check in was easy and our room was ready early. Nothing was too much trouble and our special anniversary was celebrated with complimentary bubbly and a celebration dessert. The staff are happy to assist and nothing is too much trouble.

We eloped just the two of us at Spicers Hidden Vale in July and had the most beautiful time. Everyone was lovely, warm and welcoming. Special thanks to Sarah who was our witness, and Alex who took care of us at Homage during our elopement dinner. Thank you for having us
