Spicers Hidden Vale Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Sixty minutes out of Brisbane and you’re suddenly on 12,000 acres of bush where your phone feels irrelevant; I found the place more farmhouse with good taste than slick resort, with wide verandas, creaky timber floors, crackling fireplaces and skies that seem to go on forever. The old Queensland homestead is the social heart—guests drift through with a glass of wine, a chessboard, or nothing more than time to kill—while timber-and-stone cottages and cabins are scattered across the property, some tiny and intimate, others airy suites or multi-bedroom cottages with kitchens and verandas that feel like farmhouses you lucked into borrowing (insider tip: cottages 19–22 are where the kangaroos like to hang out at dawn). The property’s main draw is the bush itself, but there are thoughtful extras: two pools (an attention-grabbing infinity pool and a more forgiving second pool), tennis courts, a playground, surprisingly good hiking and mountain-biking trails, a rattling 4WD experience, and even a koala safari. Wellness here is embedded in the landscape—walk, bike, play tennis or simply sit on a porch with tea while kangaroos graze—and that relaxed approach is reflected in the vibe: a four-star retreat that feels like a luxury lodge meets Aussie bush escape, with rooms from cabins to cottages and rates starting around AUD $600+ per night; it’s about an hour from Brisbane and most guests I know never bother leaving, preferring day-trip options like Scenic Rim wineries or Main Range National Park only if they can tear themselves away."

Spicers Hidden Vale is an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment you arrive, the reception staff are genuinely welcoming, friendly, and incredibly helpful — they set the tone for a relaxed and well-run stay. The dining experience was equally outstanding. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and made every meal feel special without being overbearing. The quality of the food, combined with the service, really elevates the entire experience. A special mention also goes to the Parkrun at Hidden Vale — it’s a fantastic course set in beautiful surroundings and brilliantly organised. It’s one of the best Parkruns around and a real highlight of the stay. Overall, Spicers Hidden Vale delivers outstanding hospitality, amazing staff, and a truly memorable experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a standout getaway.

Loveliest spot. Such a beautiful lounge, bar, and dining room. Food delicious. Wine list interesting and extensive. Service outstanding. Been to 3 Spicers restaurants. Hidden Vale is exceptional. It is miles from anywhere but dont miss it if you have the opportunity.

Only 10mins away, I'm so happy to have such a gorgeous brunch spot. Great coffee, food and our waiter Troy was so lovely and helpful. Would totally just come back for the gf lammington 😋 The farm animals are really friendly and cute too. Such a beautiful spot for a catch up with friends.

We couldn't have had a better stay. A short trip from Brisbane, the service of Sarah, Nina and the team was welcoming and thoughtful. The loft suite was prefect for our young family and Luke's food was exceptional breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Spicers Hidden Vale fabulous relaxing plenty of activities or just chill and relax. Best place I have ever stayed. We spent a weekend for twelve of our family and everyone in the group has the same sentiments.

Firstly, the location at Spicers Retreat was beautiful and exactly what you would hope for from the setting. Unfortunately, the overall experience of our Christmas Day lunch fell short of expectations, particularly given the reputation and premium pricing of the Spicers brand. There were numerous flies throughout the dining area, which significantly impacted the meal. When this was raised with a staff member, we were advised that the fly fans were broken. Unfortunately, no solution or alternative was offered, and the issue remained unresolved for the duration of the meal. The quality of the food also did not meet the standard we would expect from Spicers. The dishes lacked refinement and attention to detail, and overall the meal felt underwhelming for what should have been a special occasion. Christmas lunch is a once-a-year experience, and we had hoped for something memorable. Sadly, this did not reflect the usual Spicers Retreat standards

Spicer Hidden Vale is a hidden treasure. Located in the most gorgeous picturesque secluded setting you can’t miss an opportunity to stay here. Enjoying this historic homestead with the kind warm welcoming staff, is an experience you just want more of. Our stay for our anniversary so more than just amazing. Our rustic luxurious cabin was prefect, cosy and welcoming with the local kangaroos relaxing at our back door step. The Homage was a lovely place to spend some time, whether it was enjoying the divine dining experience or relaxing in the lounge with a refreshing beverage from the bar and the adventure park is prefect for those adventurous guests. At Spicers you can do as much or as little as you want. From Nina at the front reception, Tim at the Adventure Park, Dan at the restaurant, Danielle at the Cocktail Masterclass to Adam at the Cheese & Wine tasting, this establishment should be proud of the staff that work here. They make your experience at Spicers by far a memorable one. We are grateful for their kindness, knowledge and warm welcome allowing us to feel at home.
