From the Caribbean to Lake Como, More Hotels Are Embracing the Off Season | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set in Cape Dutch–style buildings on a winery in Stellenbosch, I found the reimagined Spier Hotel courting winter travelers—especially those who might otherwise head to safari—through a winter wellness package that includes steam and sauna on chilly days; with lower prices in winter guests can stay longer to enjoy clear skies and crisp mornings, and as brand manager Aimee Raymond puts it, “the atmosphere is gentler.”" - Mary Holland

T+L's Hotel Review of Spier Hotel in Stellenbosch, South Africa

The design of the 80 rooms and suites prioritizes comfort, featuring plush linens, wooden furnishings, gas fireplaces, and a curated selection of artworks." - Heather Richardson Heather Richardson Heather Richardson is a journalist based in Cape Town, South Africa. "Around since 1692, Spier is one of the oldest and best-known wineries in Stellenbosch. Not only does this historic estate continue to receive accolades for its wine, it’s also become a hot spot for travelers thanks to its family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors can easily spend anywhere from a couple hours to an entire day enjoying all the activities Spier has to offer, from picnics on the lawn overlooking the Eerste River to self-guided walking tours of the property. There’s also a farm-to-table restaurant on-site, as well as an outdoor playground for children. For something unique, book the “Eagle Encounter” program to learn how the estate rehabilitates wounded birds and uses them for natural pest control, or take an evening Segway tour of the vineyards, followed by a sunset tasting among the vines."

We had a wonderful stay at the Spier Hotel. The breakfast was outstanding, with a wide variety of local products that made it really special. The rooms are beautiful, modern, and feel brand new. The entire property is exceptionally well kept – everything is spotless and inviting. Highly recommended!

Sensational, newly refurbished hotel near Stellenbosch. Our rooms were perfectly appointed. The care given to us right from our arrival was top notch. We used Uber to travel into Stellenbosch for a lovely lunch near the botanical gardens. Food at Veld was spectacular and the wine tasting in the hotel and wider farm were very tasty, lovely wines. Great shops and walks around the farm. Heated pool was good even though it was cool weather

I had a wonderful experience at Spier Hotel. The hotel itself is amazing, has a beautiful location and incredible staff. I would like to highlight how attentive and extremely helpful the staff was when I lost my necklace after I went to the spa. Many staff members immediately started helping and retraced my steps to find my necklace and they quickly found it! I am so grateful for their help and dedication. Thank you for a wonderful stay at Spier, I would love to return some time.

We stayed at Spier Hotel for just one night during our honeymoon — and we truly wish we had stayed longer. The estate is absolutely stunning and serene, perfect for winding down. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and even had a cozy fireplace. We had a good dinner at the restaurant, a good opportunity to pair with the wine they produce and took full advantage of the amazing spa with a 60-minute massage — one of the best spa experiences I’ve ever had. There’s also wine tasting and other relaxing activities on site. A peaceful, elegant escape. Strongly recommend!

We had a lovely breakfast at Vadas and enjoyed it! Our waiter was really great. The outdoor area is perfect for kids to run around and even climb a few trees. A lovely spot for a relaxed family morning

Absolutely breathtaking weekend away. Rooms, service and facilities were perfect. The staff are friendly, attentive and see to your every wish. They are an absolute plus to the establishment. Steeped in history and untouched the lamdscape is breathtaking. The food was outstanding and caters for different tastes. Will definitely be back.

We were at Spier as part of our honeymoon Garden Route road trip. We had a lovely time with some of the best service of our stay. The room was beautiful, the environment gorgeous, commitment to local artists clearly visible. We cannot recommend enough.

Every inch of the property is like a curated work of art, from the beautiful buildings, kitchen, and grounds, to the eclectic art.
