We visited Spilia in Mykonos recently, expecting a relaxed Sunday dinner by the sea. The setting is stunning, but unfortunately the experience wasn’t what we had hoped for.
When we arrived, we weren’t given much direction, so we headed downstairs where the music was extremely loud and it felt more like a club than a restaurant. While there were some people eating, most guests seemed to be up dancing, which left us confused. Thinking we must have gone the wrong way, we went back upstairs to ask, but were told our table was indeed downstairs.
Once back down, the host didn’t seem particularly welcoming and told us we’d need to wait a bit longer. We were left standing awkwardly in the middle of the party, and while we were encouraged to go to the bar, the atmosphere was not at all what we expected for a dinner reservation. The music was so loud we couldn’t even hold a conversation, and it felt very uncomfortable.
We enjoy a lively night out when we’re prepared for it, but this just wasn’t the vibe we were looking for. We came expecting a restaurant experience, not a nightclub. If you’re after a full-on party atmosphere this may be perfect, but if you’re seeking a calm, scenic meal, this probably isn’t the right place.
