"Spinnerei, Plagwitz. The Spinnerei is a huge creative complex founded on the site of the former cotton mill, including more than 100 artists' studios, a potters' workshop, print studios, galleries, a cinema, an arts supply store, a Café/Restaurant, and much more. The historical industrial site was founded in 1884 and employed as many as 4000 workers at its height. Always worth a visit, you can book a tour or join in one of the seasonal “Rundgang” open houses."
It’s a historical place: a wool factory 🏭 and now it turns into a place for arts where many artists gather to stay and show their work through temporary exhibitions. Most of them also use the space as their workshops. Since it’s a temporary exhibition spot, there are always different artists and exhibitions in every period. When I went there, most of them are contemporary arts, few of them doing other stuff such as jewelry, pots, etc.
There’s a big art supply store in the middle of the factory site and a very nice coffee shop & restaurant nestled at the beginning of the site located at the front gate. Usually there are many artists, art students, & visitors enjoying lunch or a cup of coffee here.
Almost all the exhibitions are free. The only part requires a fee is the transportation exhibition (4€/person and €2/student).
It’s an interesting place for art enthusiasts.

Given all the hype this place this place has gotten it’s a huge disappointment. Yes it has potential but that’s a long way off. I read about restaurants, coffee houses, plentiful galleries and retail. Except for 2 galleries open, a sad looking coffee shop and a hat store, nothing was open. A waste of time!
