Spirit of the Knights, Old Town, Rhodes, Greece - Explore & Book

"Hidden havens are something of a holy grail for us, especially on a bustling island like Rhodes; so this tranquil 6-room sleepery was a real revelation. Tucked right beneath the ramparts of its UNESCO-classed medieval Old Town, you'll be met at the taxi drop-off by amiable manager Alex, who leads you through a web of low-arched, echoing alleys to a daunting looking wall.Within, softened by lanterns, two towering palm trees, pink bougainvillea and a rippling Jacuzzi-pool, you’ll find a listed 14th-century knights' lodging, lovingly renovated over 4 years in close consultation with the Greek archaeology department and local craftsmen. Overseeing it all, from behind the scenes, is British artist Felicity Marshall. With the help of her son Alex, she runs the place in a relaxed yet professional way. A medieval fountain looks out onto a spacious green courtyard, a 500-year-old domed hammam is still in use as a private steam room (in one of the suites); even the radiators are made of marble. From the light-filled breakfast lounge, next to the lovely Knight's Chamber, an external flight of stone stairs lead steeply to a salon on the first floor. Papered with books from floor to lofty timbered ceiling, this magnificent communal space is the kingpin around which the hotel's 5 other suites revolve. Some have mezzanine bedrooms (handy for kids), others are more romantic with hanging candelabras and stained-glass windows - but all have that happy combination of medieval grandeur and modern comfort. Highs A welcoming oasis-like retreat after a day spent wandering the city walls and narrow cobbled streets withinGorgeous outdoor courtyard with a Jacuzzi tub and sunloungers, plus lots of shaded nooks and a dipping pool for cooling down after a day of sightseeingRhodes Town itself - a medieval gem (especially out of season), with narrow alleys, atmospheric restaurants, grand palaces - all on your doorstepSuperbly comfortable Coco Mat kingsize beds decked out with natural fibre linens A green hotel: low-energy light sources, solar-powered hot water and eco-friendly toiletries Lows Noise from the street (especially in summer); light sleepers should choose rooms giving onto the courtyard or shut the window and switch on the air-conA steep staircase to suites on the upper floor - folk with mobility problems should book the Knight's ChamberIt's difficult to park near the hotel - call Alex in advance and he'll send a cart for your luggageBreakfast is simple, but adequate" - Heidi Fuller-Love

Rhodes was hot and busy, but this small hotel is quiet, cool, and in a great location just off Old Town's main streets. The breakfast served in the courtyard each morning was excellent. Transfers were organised to get us to and from the hotel which is down narrow alleys.

This beautiful small hotel run by Elena and Theodore was absolutely perfect. A short walk from all the wonderful sights of Rhodes Town, yet so calm and peaceful to relax on the loungers in the shady courtyard at the end of the day.|The Ottoman suite was so atmospheric and you could imagine its use in times gone by with the historic furnishings and decor. The bed was super comfy and we appreciated the deep bath.|The breakfast in the courtyard was the highlight with local produce perfectly cooked and presented. |The hosts gave us lots of help and advice on restaurants and arranging taxis. We enjoyed the ride on the golf cart as the streets are too narrow for cars. Can’t recommend this hotel highly enough, thanks for giving us such a wonderful experience.

We have just rturned from Rhodes having stayed 6 nights in the Spirit of the Knights hotel. We couldn't fault it, both Elena and Theodore were massively helpful from the moment I contacted them to make to the booking to dropping us off at the taxi rank at the end of our stay - note no cars/taxis in the the old town so you will need to organise picking up and dropping off with the hotel. The breakfasts were delicious especially the omlettes and the fruit plates. Our room was spotless and cleaned each day and a selection of towels tied together for each guest was a nice touch. The location was spot on - down a quiet alley in the old town not far from anything once you get a sense of direction. Elena organised our trips to both Lindos and Symi which was a great help and saved a lot of time, you can ask them to book before you arrive as both trips get very busy. There was also a very relaxing outdoor lounge with a jacuzzi area. Highly recommended.

We had planned to stay at the Spirit of the Knights for 3 nights but ended up staying an extra night and most of a day due to a nation wide transportation strike. The staff could not have been more helpful with ideas for alternate transportation and things to do with our extra day on Rhodes. It was great to have a hotel very close to the palace, shops and many, many restaurants. |Breakfast with made-to-order eggs was fabulous. And the courtyard was beautiful, although the weather was too cool and rainy for us to enjoy it. The Pasha suite was very large and comfortable with a very nice bed and sitting area. If I could take off a 1/2 star for the shower with no closure, I would, since water splashing from the nice rainshower head went all over the bathroom. We just used the towels to soak it up and had to get fresh towels each day.

This place is a slice of heaven and Elena, the manager is wonderful. I was actually booked at another hotel and it was horrible. A nigjtmare. At the last minute I decided to book here and flee the nasty scammy hotel I was at. She accommodated me and was so kind. Thank you!! The property is stunning, especially the tranquil courtyard. My room was absolutely gorgeous, enormous and spotless. I didnt want to leave the property! Breakfast was superb and I made a pig out of myself. Thank you for rescuing me from a gross hotel into your slice of heaven!

Elena is a wonderful hostess and nothing was too much for her. The room was warm and comfortable. The bed was divine and we slept so well, much better than in our own home! The breakfast was perfect. A superb introduction to Greece in general and Rhodes in particular.

My wife and I found this quaint boutique hotel an ideal base for exploring the medieval old town of Rhodes. We had the Pasha suite, which we took a while to get used to, due to its dim light, creaking floorboards & lack of comfortable seating. The elevated “bathtub” was another challenge. Nevertheless, the beds are comfortable, & the hosts Elena, & Theodore were friendly & helpful.|The courtyard has a nice ambience, a quiet oasis in the old town; & breakfasts were excellent. There is a truly outstanding seafood restaurant, a mere 10 minute walk away.|Overall an enjoyable although not totally comfortable stay, in the unique & atmospheric old town. ||One final comment. catching taxis to travel to destinations outside old town is less convenient, as it’s almost a fifteen minute walk to the nearest taxi station. So you have to be prepared for a fair amount of walking. Also, most shops/eateries in old town are closed in March
