Splanzia Hotel, Chania, Crete - Explore & Book

"If location is all, then this hotel in the heart of Chania's historic Splanzia district scores high. Overshadowed by a Turkish minaret that was tacked onto the neighbouring church in 1630, the hotel is just 10 minutes' walk from the city’s fishing harbour, yet away from tourist bustle. Step inside and you’ll find the stone walls of an ancient Venetian stronghold jazzed up with a charcoal- and cherry-toned décor signed by the Bentley award-winning designer Yiannis Yiannakakis. With its sleek floors, black leather sofas and Madame Recamier loungers, the lobby is in striking contrast to the tangled alleys outside. A spiral staircase winds from here like a silver thread up to 8 rooms equipped with Balinese four-posters and luxurious drapes. Cross into the shady interior courtyard, with its mosaic tiles and deep stone well, and you’re plunged back to Ottoman times. Or head up to the sunset-facing terrace and collapse in the giant hammock with a drink and a view of the city's rooftops - magically romantic at night. Highs Relaxing with a book in the courtyard listening to Mass from the church next door - and doves cooing in the trees overhead Breakfast is exceptional, we loved the creamy Greek yoghurt drizzled with local honey and home-baked traditional Cretan pastries Exploring Chania's cobbled streets and covered market, all within walking distance of the hotel Brothers Yiannis and Nikos are incredibly welcoming and go out of their way to help Lows Noise from the street can filter through the shutters (especially in summer) - light sleepers should request courtyard-facing rooms It can be difficult to park; Yiannis promises - cross-his-heart-hope-to-die - that he’ll find you space near the hotel We felt the bedroom design is starting to look rather dated Bathrooms are a little cramped" - Heidi Fuller-Love

We absolutely loved our stay at this boutique hotel. The triple room was spacious for 3 people. The beds were extremely comfortable and had an old-world greek style. Nikos and Yannis (hotel owners) were wonderful hosts - super friendly and helpful! They provided us with good advice and guidance on restaurants, beaches, and the key Chania old town sights. We stayed 5 nights and every morning we woke up to the most delicious and amazing breakfast. We had a daily pastry, fresh fruit, homemade desert crepes with chocolate and banana, extensive choice of coffees, and eggs made to order. The breakfast is served in a beautiful, private, enclosed garden/patio. The room is just as pictured on the website. We loved walking out of the hotel and being right in the heart of old town Chania. There are numerous excellent restaurants and bars on the same street as the hotel. The creperie across the street from the hotel that stayed open until 3am daily was a nice treat to end our evening. Highly recommend this hotel - don't hesitate to book!

Splanzia hotel was a wonderful experience. I traveled with my husband and we had a beautiful room by the courtyard. The room was extremely clean, bright and comfortable. The two brothers who run the hotel were very welcoming and helpful, talking us through our different options for visiting Chania and traveling in the surrounding area, as well as advice for the best food in town. They went out of their way to make sure that our stay was a great experience.||The breakfast was amazing, we were offered fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, eggs (cooked in a multitude of ways!) toast, pancakes, freshly squeezed juice, tea and coffee. ||The hotel is situated in the Splanzia neighbourhood of Chania, very close to shops, bars, restaurants and the old Venetian port. Also very handy for taxis and public transport, including for the KTEL (inter-city buses).||I would definitely recommend this hotel - great location, amazing hostpitality, romantic, peaceful and a great experience overall.

Nico and Yanis were amazing hosts. They went through all the trouble to rescue our car from being towed. I could only experience something like this in my home country ( India) . Experiencing this level of hospitality was something unforgettable. I would definitely visit Xania again and stay here.

Excellent hotel for exploring Chania. Quiet. Nice, clean rooms. Staff is very helpful. One caution is that there is no elevator, so if stairs are a problem, reach out to the staff.

One of Chania's best kept secrets. The coziness and comfort of the rooms, the private courtyard offer a sanctuary of peace & quiet in a heritage house nested in a perfect location. The dedicated & enthusiastic service of Yiannis and Nikos is one of the best I've experienced in Crete, and Greece (and, if you know Greek hospitality, that says a lot!) The generous & succulent homemade breakfast is absolute pure joy. An amazing boutique hotel that provides the same high quality, year after year.

Amazing hotel! We booked at the very last minute as our flight from Chania was cancelled, leaving us high and dry late at night. The host, Ioannis, was right outside when our taxi arrived and immediately welcomed us warmly and helped us with our baggage. I cannot speak highly enough of Ioannis. He (and also his colleagues) was incredibly welcoming and went out of his way to help us. Our flight the next day was an evening flight, so he allowed us a little extra time in the room and looked after our luggage while we enjoyed a day in Chania. When we came back, he invited us to relax in the lobby and fetched us water to drink on a very warm day. The hotel itself is a beautiful old building in the heart of Chania, a stone's throw from wonderful shops and restaurants, and very near the harbour and beach. the room was quiet, spacious, spotless and well equipped. A fantastic breakfast was served in the morning in the beautiful secluded backyard full of trees and flowers. We hope to return next time we visit Crete.

Wonderful accommodations and experience in every respect. Comfortable, modern rooms in a charmingly renovated historic building. We (two couples) had rooms on the top floor with great privacy and an outside deck. ||Our hosts elevated our whole experience. The three generations of the owning and operating family quietly and unobtrusively met--in fact, anticipated--at every turn, recommending destinations in and out of Chania, restaurants, and other interesting enhancements to our trip. Everybody was there to say goodby when we checked out. ||We will not even think about staying anywhere else when we return.
