"Splasher's Fun and Friendly Grill A little peckish for lunch, I dropped in at Splashers on a recommendation from a street artist on Alii Drive. Though I was on my own, I quickly felt embraced by the local aloha and friendly atmosphere of the restaurant. I people watched - a group of overdressed business people from the mainland meeting clients in Kailua-Kona sat to my left, a family of four sat several tables in front of me, and a few couples were seated along the railing of the open air grill for prime views of the shops below and the ocean beyond Alii Drive. Blue water cups reminded me of a diner while the open air atmosphere reminded me I was in the tropics. The food (I ordered fish tacos) was filling and flavorful, the bar was preparing for a busy afternoon and evening of cocktails and beers, and staff were fluttering about tending to their late lunch crowd. Sitting on top of the Kona Farm Direct cafe, you will definitely want to grab a coffee after lunch to keep you going the rest of the afternoon."

It was delicious!! Went there for breakfast and was impressed with the timeliness of taking our order and bringing our food out to us. As well as the size and flavor of the food! Definitely a place to stop in for a bite that will fill you up! The location is awesome, especially if staying at the Marriott. It is a soothing and very friendly atmoshoere.

Google
It was just okay. Seems like this place is only popular because it is popular. Food is pretty coming out, ambience is nice (but only partial ocean view at an angle), and staff are attentive. But the “famous” fried fish was very dry (see pictures) and low on flavor. My mom liked the November special though - a chicken sandwich with sweet butternut squash soup. Again, this was just okay. I would not write home about it or recommend it except for the sheer convenience, which isn’t special either - there are a lot of other options nearby.

Google
The best food in Kona! Really, I ate there my 6 days on the island. Great service with a smile. Portions are big and oh so tasty. Try the chicken enchilada omelet its Fantastic

Google
The first thing my wife complain is that it is not handicap friendly. Those of you can't climb stairs, forget about this place. Like everyone else comments, the servers are friendly. I give it a four stars given the location, food, service and ambience. Food wise: BBQ Ribs and Chicken The BBQ ribs are quite tender and fall off the bones easily which I like. I have to admit the BBQ sauce is a bit too overwhelming and sweet for me and the chicken a bit too dry and tough. I gave up eating the chicken after chewing and chewing each bite. Those who have weak teeth, beware! Grilled Chicken: My wife said, "It is okay. Don't trust the reviews you read when it said five stars, it is not true." Each person have their own personal preference. I took a piece of her chicken, I find it a bit bland and not to my taste. Her piece of chicken is slightly more tender. White Chocolate Lilikoi Cheesecake with Macadamia Nut Crust: Pleasing to the eyes and taste quite delicious. The combination of chocolate, macadamia nuts and cheese cake is pretty good. It is good with coffee.

Google
A really nice restaurant, with friendly staff and a good happy hour menu. The burgers are huge and priced very well. At this restaurant, keep it to traditional bar food and you won't be disappointed. There are separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, so I cannot speak to them all. It is in central Kona and has pretty good views of the water.

Google
We went for breakfast, and the food was great! We got seated quickly, and our server was pretty nice and stopped by often to ask if we needed anything. They give you a lot of food as well, and it comes rather quickly.

Mitch C.

Google
Two words. Calamari strips. So tender. So delicious. Friendly staff. Nice location. Good beers. Fish was great and crab cakes actually contain crab (you know how many do not.. ). They SHOULD warm guests about the parking. They have free parking and if their lot is full there's an arrangement with the hotel for overflow. We got stuck paying the next lot over a fortune. Avoid that. About 10$ an hour. Ugh. Will go back :-)

Christine W

Google
Great food and a beautiful open view of the ocean! They have some refreshing flavoured teas as well! Fresh fish and quick service! They also have a 10 percent off coupon if you register on their website

James B.

Yelp
food was very good. service was excellent. Was nervous about the other reviews but it was the only place close enough by the pier while we waited for out ocean tour. Very happy with everything though.
google avatar

Grant M.

Yelp
Great service here. They understand gluten sensitivity and it is marked in their menu. The food was so good as well. Get the teriyaki pineapple burger. One star taken off due to confusion caused by the lack of signage for wheelchair accessibility.
google avatar

Cheryl N.

Yelp
Great service and gluten sensitive options. The Big Kahuna Stack was flavorful, fluffy, and filling. I liked the coconut syrup but only needed a little bit. View of the ocean was ok since the way the tables are faced only one person in our party could see it and they were not very busy. However, great staff here and yummy food. The parking is very difficult. Most stressful parking lot I have encountered. However, the parking lot is free , just dangerous.
google avatar

Eliana F.

Yelp
Tremendous breakfast here right before our flight back home. Though I was Extremely stressed out about the time frame for our validated parking over at the Courtyard hotel (90 mins), we needn't have worried because the service was efficient and friendly The crab cake Benedict was so superb. I didn't get a cocktail but they looked good from what I saw at other tables. The restroom was clean, which was an excellent surprise

Julie R.

Yelp
I'm not one to normally make a review but we had a horrible experience tonight. I would rate it a zero out of 5 if I could. We had a party of 7. They said we would receive a text in 20 min when the table was ready. We never received a text. Many people went ahead of us including a large party. We went to check on it and they had given our table away. Then my child ordered the chicken nuggets from the kids menu and his chicken was RAW after eating half of it. This isn't acceptable. They gave us his meal free and offered free desert, it doesn't make it okay. I think this restaurant isn't worth your time. Go somewhere else down the road.

Yelp
In a hurry so this review will be short! But this restaurant was amazing. Good wine. Good service. AMAZING view. I like that they allowed us to order SIDES menu. Mahi mahi blackened, grilled, or fried $14 and I got a crab cake for $10 The crab cake was VERY SPICY! I love spicy and it was delicious to me. I've never had a spicy crab cake. And I would totally order it again. Mahi mahi was delicious

Yelp
Ambiance is beautiful! Restaurant is clean and airy. Amazing spot to catch the sunset. Staff were very friendly and professional. We came for fish and chips. Unfortunately with my shellfish allergy I was unable to eat any fried food. The manager came to speak with me and offered other recommendations. We just got off our 9 hr flight so we decided to stay and eat. I went with a cobb salad and added chicken as the manager recommended. It was decent, but I didn't feel like I got a good value for the price. My husband had the fish and chips it was good, but he definitely wanted one more piece. We both left still hungry. Loved the views. Maybe we will just try a desert next time. We don't drink cocktails, but quite a few tables were having drinks and enjoying the view.

Yelp
This is place is a little further from the more popular beach downtown Kona area but is still surrounded by some hotels and restaurants. We stopped by right before closing and they were nice to accommodate us. We got the poke stack and it was pretty good! The fish was fresh and buttery. The tortilla chips were the perfect touch of crunchy with the fish. The decor is pretty simple and the service is quick. The place is no frills but the food is great!
google avatar

Roya J.

Yelp
Friendly service with food and pricing of what I'd expect from a highly touristy area. Both the poke and mahi mahi sandwich were fine, but that was it. If seated in the outskirts it did have nice views. Prices were of course higher due to location. Wish I could say more, but can't think of much.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch before a whale watching trip. The food was great, super kid friendly, all staff was friendly and attentive even when super busy. The tsunami burger is so good! Kids loved the chicken strips! And the Kona light beer was delicious!

Yelp
The second level, open-air restaurant has a partial ocean view, depending where you are seated. The background music is modern and chill. The shrimp appetizer serves as my entree and was tasty. The coleslaw was very good. My wife requested no onions on her salad, but it was served with onions. Thankfully, they did swap out the chicken with shrimp as she had requested. After she picked out the onions, she said the salad was great. I was surprised by the $7 up-charge for swapping the chicken with shrimp. My first son requested no avocado on his BLAT sandwich, but it was served with avocado. He ate the sandwich but said he wished he would have ordered something else. My second son enjoyed the fish and chips he ordered. He tends to be a very picky eater so that was a success. My wife requested no ice in her water, but it was served with ice. Prices seemed a bit inflated but this may be typical for the island. (This was our first meal on the island.) We paid $113 with tip for four of us.

Yelp
The food was great & the service was even better! Thanks Crystal for your superior customer service. She was so warm & welcoming! We'll be back for sure. Much Mahalo love the Pestano's.

Yelp
Good service from Shiloh - nice friendly. Place is near the harbor- beautiful view. The food is good here! They forgot our avocado sides. Not a problem. They brought it. The drinks are good. Fun that we came during happy hour 2 dollars off Pupu & drinks Is now owned by the people who own Fosters. Free parking under the restaurant or Kamehameha hotel with validation . Today we found street parking.

Yelp
First visit: Service: 8/10 Ambiance:8/10 Food:8/10 Came here on our first day in Kona and overall had a pleasant experience. Parking was hard since we were unfamiliar with the area. This restaurant is located on the second floor upstairs and is roofed outdoor seating. Service throughout the experience was good and food was also great. During this visit we ordered the hummus, shrimp appetizer, burger, and pretzel. All were great but nothing beyond expectations. Had a few local beers on tap and seemed to have a full bar. Ambiance was quiet during lunch. Second Visit: Service:7/10 Ambiance:9/10 Food:8/10 Came here on our last day of Kona with the rest of the family and had another good time. After being more accustomed to the area, we found that if you park in the lot on the left under the restaurant, you can provide your license plate to the restaurant for a validation of 90 minutes. We were able to make a reservation for 7 on a Saturday. We ordered a few plates such as the loco moco, two fin chowder, surf and turf, and pork chop. Note: if you order steak, order one below your preferred wellness. Best dish was the chowder by far. Overall would recommend this restaurant for someone looking for a good for kids, affordable, or casual restaurant.

Yelp
This has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Kona! Let's start by talking about the ambience. It is very calm and pleasant. The view on the top deck is amazing! Overlooking the beach looks amazing especially during g the day. The service was great. I chatted with the waiter for a while and she through out some suggestions. Everything was good from the food to the drinks . This is somewhere I would recommend to visitors.
google avatar

Jill H.

Yelp
Everything was so good here!! They've really stepped up their game! We've eaten quite a few meals here this trip. Everything has been good. Gluten free choices too!! Service is wonderful and you can't beat the view.

Yelp
Best Benedict on island. Had the Barney and added arugula. Great service amazing views

Yelp
Amazing food, great customer service, nice views, and decorations check it out if you are interested it was very worth it! I had the best waitress experience, she made jokes and tended to us without having to ask and she was very thoughtful and asked if we wanted drinks to go as well, she also loved my pin bag

Linda H.

Yelp
We loved the food here back in 2016 that we ate here for five days straight during our trip. We went back today after 8 years all excited but this time, food is really disappointing. Tacos tasted floury and onion rings all sticked together with a bonus fries in it.
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
The service was great and the food was alright. Not trying to be overly critical, but I think Denny's or IHOP might be better. I will say they did have a great Diet Coke and they have a great menu for little kids. $6 a plate for kids is a steal in Hawaii. The servers we had here were great. Couldn't have been more nice. Cool ambiance as well, better for sunrise than sunset since the Courtyard blocks it.
google avatar

Shawnee B.

Yelp
We just checked in across the street at the Marriott after multiple delayed flights and were starving, luckily Big Kahuna is located right across the street and wasn't too busy for a Saturday night. The menu is huge so anybody can find something they want so it seemed like the easiest choice. It's located upstairs and gives you partial views of the water, depending where you sit. I ordered the loco moco which was perfect as well as my first mai tai of the trip. My friend ordered the ahi tuna which she loved and a ginger seltzer that we all were not a fan of, the waitress was nice enough to let us exchange it for something else which was very kind. Definitely would be back to dine next time I'm in Kona!

Joana K.

Yelp
Really enjoy their breakfast typically. Went in over the weekend for lunch recently and had the world's most flavorless fish tacos. Ahi was not blackened as advertised, gobs and gobs (overkill) of aioli. Friends dishes were described as equally flavorless. In the end paid about 120$ after tip (service was excellent though! Have to say that!) for some of the worst food I've had in a long time. Think I'll still go for breakfast but will not be coming back for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
As my son and I were finishing up a Pokémon trail, I was hungry, and we decided to check out this corner spot! They had a great patio, wraparound, seating area, and since you were a level up higher, a great little breeze hit you!! I decided to get the fish and chips and goodness they were huge pieces of ahi! Hee. I only ate one piece of fish for lunch and the fries, so they wouldn't get soggy, but I save the rest for dinner! The server was incredibly sweet and cute!! I used my boyfriend's name instead of my own, and she jokingly laughed with me and said she does the same thing when she goes out with her boyfriend, because she had a unique name as well! Pretty good for a younger/college age person to comment, and make note of especially on a take-out order!! I swear half these kids in the next generation don't make that extra step to make a personal experience, unique, but this young lady knew exactly what to say, or comment on! Hee. Our food came out relatively fast, and since it was take out, the server asked us if we wanted the waters to go out, which is incredibly sweet since it was such a warm day. We got some water with ice to go and she packed it in little to go cups! So sweet of her to go that extra step !! I will definitely try out this place again, and get some thing else besides fish and chips!
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Good food, good portions. Friendly staff with a nice location near the beach. Would recommend the "hit the lips" burger.
google avatar

Janet D.

Yelp
The seared ahi tuna tacos were bland and dry. The pineapple burger was ok. The side of fried chicken tasted like pickle. I don't recommend this place other than for the view of the bay.
google avatar

Natasha M.

Yelp
This place is right by The King Kamehameha Marriott; very convenient to get to. The restaurant is on the top level so the views of the bay are beautiful. Our server Tara was beyond top notch. She was super, super friendly very knowledgeable not only about the menu but the surrounding area. We each had a burger. My daughter due to dietary needs is vegetarian so she was able to get the impossible burger and she said it is one of the best she has had. We also had the Edamame Hummus and to say it was Good is an understatement. It is a definite try. I had the Hibiscus Cooler. It had more a a Mai Tai taste to me. It was good. Just don't know if I would have 2. Our daughter had the Pina Colada and said it was okay. But not that favorable.
google avatar

Bradley S.

Yelp
I thought this place would be great as the atmosphere was nice, near the hotels, near the water. However very slow service. After placing my order for just a burger and fries, it took almost an hour for my food to be delivered. Had to ask 4 different servers for a refill. The food is ok. The sauce for the crab cakes is sooooo spicy you can't even taste the crab cake. The reason I gave 2 stars is the staff is very friendly. Other than that, find another place to eat.
google avatar

Chelsea C.

Yelp
We first stopped by this place in August 2021, and we were really impressed with the service, food and prices. We recently came back, and prices have skyrocketed for less than mediocre food. The service was great, the open air ocean views are great, but we will not be returning based on the prices (there are so many other reasonable options in Kona with better food). I ordered the BLAT Sandwich, which is a BLT with avocado. The sandwich itself was $18 and to add fries it was an additional $4....resulting in $22 for a simple sandwich and fries. We also ordered the Cobb salad with grilled "spicy" chicken. The chicken was not spicy, and the basic salad was $22. PROS: * good service * variety of menu options * ocean views * location * happy hour CONS: * pricey for what it is * food isn't the best

Lorayne M.

Yelp
Loved this place! First we were greeted by a welcoming hostess and then our server, who also was helpful, so friendly and knowledgeable. The food was great as well as all the service. The place has a great ocean view and an open friendly vibe. We were very satisfied with our total experience. The food was top notch. Shout out to Chy, Brian and Kawaii! Oh, and they validate parking! A big deal with all the new parking fees.
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
From the time we were welcomed by a friendly employee until we were seated and served, the employees were friendly, welcoming, helpful and prompt. The food was top notch. My wife and I both ordered the Big Kahuna burgers which were very tasty. Top notch! My wife had a piña colada with strawberry lava flow and I had a passion fruit milkshake. I highly recommend this establishment when you are in the area.
google avatar

Shaeda M.

Yelp
It was gonna be a wait so we jumped at the bar. Great service, fast and friendly. Margaritas were a hit but even better was the way the BLTA was altered for me. It was amazingly good. The cheese fries got a bit soggy but when first arrived super crispy and yummy. Enjoyed our lunch here and will be back on our next trip again.

Jamie V.

Yelp
Came in to try them out for the first time thanks to a $20 off promo they had going on- I really enjoyed it! I ordered the Take off Tacos and a Pina Colada. Both were delicious. Brian was my server and he was the best! Can't beat the views also. I'll definitely be back to try their breakfast!!
google avatar

Shari L.

Yelp
We've been coming to this great grill for several years and again this trip the place is great. I had tacos and my husband had the fish and chips; they were excellent. It was a hearty potion and the fish was tender and not over cooked. Wait service was excellent and a table at the rail offers a great view. We'll go back again before we leave Kona. Thanks guys!!!!
google avatar

Emerson B.

Yelp
After almost 2 years, I thought I should give this place another try. The entrance looks worse than before with disgustingly dirty, torn-up carpeted stairs warning me that this place still has an absentee owner. Inside was better, but it was instantly obvious that the place is severely understaffed with the bartender having to wait tables. After my last review, the owner responded that they "would love to welcome (me) back to have that burger (I) have been craving". I don't know what that response was about but assumed they must be proud of their burgers and actually put effort and focus into that item. So I tried the blue cheese burger. It was made with 2 small, thin patties. The patties were much smaller than the bun and since they were so thin, it was impossible for the cook to not overcook them. The fries were just basic. The view of the bay and pleasant staff is the only redeeming factor. It would be nice to have better food.
google avatar

Vee h.

Yelp
Good food and service. It's located across Marriot courtyard (walking distance). We ordered fish and chip + fisherman stew.
google avatar

A'Lissa O.

Yelp
We got there just before they opened at 8am. Our reward was the best table in the house with a nice view of the ocean from the corner. Relaxing atmosphere. We watched the triathletes training in the water. Server was prompt, we had our food by 8:20. I had the breakfast tacos which were solid. Generous portion of eggs, onions, green peppers and avocado with salsa on the side. I opted for no sausage. They could use a special sauce, maybe a creamy tomatillo type drizzle to Jazz them up. My hubby had the overnight oats. They were a disappointment. We actually chose this restaurant because of the oats. The portion was small, less than a cup and they had way too much cinnamon in them. I make overnight oats and they are pretty hard to mess up. These were just a mushy blob with cinnamon and coconut flavor. The granola on top was a broken up, soggy Quaker granola bar. There was a nice portion of fruit served in the side, but the oats were a no.
google avatar

Melody P.

Yelp
Crystal was an excellent server. The meal was perfect! Nothing beats the view here I enjoy eating here when I can.

Stephen W.

Yelp
How this place has a 4 star rating on Yelp is beyond comprehension. The service was fine. We were seated promptly and our server was friendly. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The food is problematic. Our popcorn shrimp appetizer was deep fried way too long so that there was no taste of shrimp, just of over-cooked batter. Either the shrimp or cocktail sauce tasted like mold. We did not get sick but it was an unpleasant taste in our mouths. My fish sandwich had lettuce that was spoiled around the edges so I had to tear those parts off. I don't mean around the rim, I mean a quarter of an inch in. The tomato slice was the thinnest I have ever seen so that the tomato served no useful purpose. So, I was left with overcooked fish on some bread. The accompanying sweet potato waffle fries were again fried way too long so that they were as hard as rocks. I could bang them on the glass plate and break it. I just don't get it. When a kitchen serves food that is spoiled or badly prepared it says "we don't care. We are going to take your money and we don't care about the quality of the product we serve you." The wife's fish tacos were overcooked and had no flavor. Instead of slaw, there was a few random pieces of cabbage. She did not like them. The views of the ocean are gorgeous but that seems to be the only reason to eat here. This was only the second bad meal we had during our two week vacation on the Big Island, so most of the restaurants are doing a good job (at least the ones we tried). We would never return.
google avatar

Sandra D.

Yelp
Our server/bar tender kanai was so awesome! She welcomed us and made us feel special. She was warm and friendly! The fish was excellent! Definitely worth stopping in' loved it!

Yelp
During a recent brunch visit to Big Kahuna, a popular dinner spot overlooking the water, the experience was unfortunately underwhelming. Though we got a table for two at 10 am without any wait and enjoyed watching some canoe racing, the service left much to be desired. Our waitress took quite some time to greet us and take our orders, which consisted of a mimosa flight, mochi pancakes, and an omelet. The mimosa flight, while alright, was a bit too heavy on the bubbles, which consequently drowned out the fruit flavors. The mochi pancakes were a disappointment. Anticipating a light, chewy texture typical of mochi flour, it was disconcerting to find the pancakes similar in taste and texture to regular pancakes. Thankfully, the pineapple jam, toasted coconut, and whip cream toppings offered some redemption. The omelet was satisfactory, with the freshness of the eggs being a notable quality. The accompanying potato sides were the most delicious part of the dish. With mediocre service, just okay food, and prices hovering around $20 per plate, the value for money at Big Kahuna's brunch leaves room for improvement. I left feeling the experience wasn't quite worth it.

Kim F.

Yelp
Service was pleasant but the food was not as I expected. There is room for improvement. The ambiance was great.
google avatar

Ivy S.

Yelp
It was pretty good. Seemed very chain like. Like any other burger chain restaurant on the main land. The views of the water were pretty good at sunset. I didn't mind sitting not at the edge of the balcony. It was cold and windy. I'm a wimp even in Hawaii. Our service was great. Everything came out at the perfect time. We came in late around 7:30pm. Which was like 10:30pm California time. I ordered the Messy Musabi burger. I was starving because of the time difference and the amount of time it took us to get settled in from our flight. I liked it. Its not every day you get Spam on a burger. My husband got the Ahi tuna salad. I thought it was so bland you could have eaten the napkin and been just as satisfied. Our friends we were with ordered the flaming cocktail they have. Apparently, many people order this and then they spill it and light the table on fire. We didn't do this but I could only imagine how dumb it must be. It was a good place for dinner to sit casually with friends.

Watt C.

Yelp
Not as good as Splashers. Waitress was great. Woman who sat us and delivered food seemed bothered by customers.
google avatar

Parth C.

Yelp
It was pretty good! Wanted somewhat of a light meal so i ordered the shrimp and an IPA. Got exactly what i wanted. A little overpriced for my liking, considering the fact that the ambiance is very diner-esque. Service was great though.
google avatar

Russ S.

Yelp
I had the steak, the mashed potatoes, and the vegetables. Really good, tender meat, flavorful vegetables, everything was nice and hot. The water flowed well! She had clam chowder and a Caesar salad and a beer. We both cleaned up our plates, which is unusual for us. Sweet server, great view, great energy, good stuff. We will be back.
google avatar

Evany F.

Yelp
The location and ambiance are great and the view is spectacular. The drinks are delicious and the food, while large in portion size is just okay - not bad at all, but not great.
google avatar

Marcie P.

Yelp
Yummy food and drinks. Friendly staff. Great open air space. Beautiful view. Love their biscuits and gravy! Pair it with a Lilikoi mimosa.
google avatar

L M.

Yelp
Simple cheese burger and fries arrived barely warm; cold by the time I ate half of it. For $25, one would expect much better quality and correct temperature of your food. The food servers were all friendly and nice.

Scott L.

Yelp
We ate here our last night in Kona, and I just wasn't overly impressed. I got the durok pork chop and I added the sirloin to try it. Both of my items were not the stated temp I wanted and the veggies were a little over cooked. Way to much char on the pork and beef. You would think for the price they could get this correct. I would say 3 of the 7 we ate with were a little back and forth with what they thought. Maybe other people would enjoy, but for us it was hard to give you more than 3 stars. Good service and presentation though.
