Updated: the manager of the Splat Paint House called after I posted my one star review below and apologised for the poor experience, and offered for us to try again. (I do commend her for being proactive about following up on customer experience). On our second visit, there were far more tools available for use and the experience was better. I do still suggest that you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve before heading there to ensure you make the most of your experience!
Original Post:
I have been to many art/painting related activities before and this one falls short by far. The tools available were very basic and limited (my primary school child's art room is far better equipped). The assistant gave no inspiration, and only when I pressed did she give a couple; she suggested to look at others' paintings on the staircase for inspiration, but that's not really helpful if there is no supporting guidance on the technique to achieve the outcomes. I understand the concept is "free play" but this is really taking it to the extreme.
I would suggest that the establishment offer more varieties of medium to generate more techniques, and to create a better video (rather than one of just the rules) of some of the ideas so customers can watch rather than rely on staff or be totally unguided.
At this rate, it would be more enjoyable to watch a few YouTubes and head to Art Friend for a larger variety of (and cheaper) art supplies.
