On the Grid : Ethnographic Museum

"The Ethnographic Museum is located in a quiet part of the Palace, near where the emperor’s chambers used to be. The secluded area is actually one of my favorite parts of the Palace, because it feels so peaceful and has a beautiful view of the tower as well as the Riva. The museum showcases the history of Croatian people through everyday objects like clothing, jewelry, pottery, furniture and weapons. Right next to the front desk of the museum is a table with handmade glasswork. If you’re lucky, you might catch someone crafting a beautiful glass pendant. A really mesmerizing process." - Leslie Yeh

Free entrance with your (free )Split Card. Beautiful part of the old town. Exhibits are in Croatian and English and feature mostly traditional clothing, jewelry and furniture. Worth an hour of your time. The building itself is gorgeous.

Very informative museum and you can also climb to the top of the dome and see the bell tower and rooftops of the old town.

Fantastic, small museum with a collection of traditional arts and crafts objects from Croatian culture. In addition, it gives you access to the Vestibule terrace, with a breathtaking view of the old town. It’s free with the Split card, and only 3eur entrance for a regular ticket.

Amazing exhibitions; permanent ones with traditional costumes, jewellery and furniture from the olden days and visiting ones about the sea and fishing, long traditions of Croatian coast. I have learned so much, thank you!

The best museum in Split! Great exhibition of regional historical costume and other local cultural history. Well laid out and spacious, and has an outside terrace with chairs to enjoy the view. It’s also possible to climb to the top of the palace for great views of the city around the open dome of the palace.

Excellent museum with a very interesting collection of cultural items. The collection of traditional costumes is exceptional. More importantly, it has good lighting so you can really enjoy seeing the costumes (unlike similar museums in Dubrovnik, Thessaloniki, and Skopje). Entrance to the museum also lets you climb the tower behind. The views from there are very good. This was probably my favorite spot in Split.

The entrance to the museum is really hard to find. The big door next to vestbul was closed, and you need to enter from the back. If we didn't get help from a local, we would assume it is closed and go away. The terrace around vestbul was very nice, and they had an interesting exhibition of traditional Croatian clothing and old items. I think they have a lot of potential to connect those items into a story and make it more interesting or interactive for the visitors. The staff at the museum are very kind and helpful. Tip: If you are staying in Split for more than 3 days, you can get a free entrance by requesting "Split card" at the tourist info office that is very close by (next to the church and the tower)

An absolute gem. It flawlessly weaves together Croatia's history and traditions through its exhibits. A delightful balance of old-world charm and modern presentation makes it a must-see.
