Sporthotel Pontresina

We made a HUGE mistake booking this hotel for four nights. Cancellation policy very strict (don’t even think about shortening your stay). The rooms are incredibly stuffy but opening a window = no sleep at night. Forget napping too.||Via Maistra is a surprisingly busy street with loud partygoers and lots of cars. Street Fair every two weeks in the summer. Nearby church bells ring every hour. Both will wake you up numerous times during the night. ||The hotel is 150 years old and only *partly* renovated. The red-carpeted hallways have a strange musty smell & there is a creepy antique crib “decorating” the staircase landing above reception. Only thing missing is a little boy on a tricycle ;) Staff very friendly & superb breakfast but please AVOID this hotel at all cost if you like modern ambience and more than 3 hours of sleep at night. Hotel more suited for senior customers.

Great location in the town and easy access to the train and buses. Beautiful hotel clean, very large rooms and desk service was fantastic. My only complaint was that we came in from dinner 1 night and stopped by the restaurant for a coffee and dessert. The woman running the restaurant couldnt have been nicer but told us she had no room for us but we could go to the bar and order. So we went to the bar and relayed that we were sent over from the restaurant and we could order coffee and dessert. Well the bartender who spoke english seemed to have no clue what I was talking about. I should have just said screw it by then but out of principal I went back to the restaurant and told the woman that the bartender had no idea what I was talking about. She personally brought us back over to the bar and took out 2 dessert menus from a drawer and handed them to us and showed him where they were. So we ordered and waited at least a 1/2 hr and I was ready to leave (but my wife talked me out of it) when finally the cappuccinos and desserts came. It was one of those situations that was just so screwed up from beginning to end -it just wasn't worth the aggravation. Anyway I am sure this could have been avoided if people were simply properly trained. Anyway I really did love this hotel but I would never bother eating here if I had to put up with this kind of grief and aggravation. There were plenty of other excellent places in town to eat.

The room was spacious but lacked any touch of an interior designer. It felt empty and uninviting, far from cozy. The SPA's operating hours are a major drawback – closing at 7:30 PM is far too early, especially for active guests. After a day of downhill skiing followed by evening cross-country skiing, it's impossible to use the SPA. In other hotels I've stayed at, the SPA was open at least until 9:00 PM. Using the shower in the room was another frustrating experience. The water temperature fluctuates randomly between cold and scalding hot, which cannot be excused by the age of the building or the quality of the plumbing, especially since the showers in the SPA area maintain a consistent temperature. The room cleaning service also left much to be desired. Leaving a full trash bin after servicing the room reflects poorly on the hotel’s attention to detail and guest comfort. Breakfasts were disappointing, with a very limited and uninspiring selection. The rooms lack basic amenities like a kettle, tea or coffee, and, most importantly, a minibar fridge. While the hotel takes pride in not having minibars and offers a vending machine instead, having a fridge in the room is essential for storing personal items that need to be kept cool. Additionally, the hotel description mentions a Tesla Destination Charger, which is misleading. There are paid commercial chargers available, but that's not the purpose of Destination Charging, which is intended to be complimentary and convenient for guests.

What a great hotel! In town, comfortable rooms, incredible views, close to the train station and bus stops, and the breakfast buffet is one of the best we've had while traveling. A bonus was the Snow Deal pass for gondolas and other areas of interest. We stayed five nights and made it our home base for day train travel to hiking and exploring the Engadin Valley and to take trains following the Bernina Express to and towards Tirano, Italy and back. I would stay here again and will recommend my friends coming to the Valley to stay there too.

Great location; great rooms; nice bar and friendly staff. Comfort could have been higher with better pillows and since the hotel is being renovated, some scaffolding in the back was very noisy when it rained (draining pipes and tarpaulins). Otherwise, great place to stay and we had a lot of fun at the bar during football

Our family was here on vacation for the first time and everything was of top standard. The location was close to the mountain and had beautiful views from the room all within walking distance to the center with lots of shops near by. The staff were all extremely helpful and exceptional hosts and made our stay fantastic. The breakfast and dinner served was lovely. The new year’s event planned with the live band was well organized and amazing. Overall would recommend and come again.

The staff was always ready to help out, super friendly. Kitchen needs an extra star. Breakfast bar had so much to choose from (especially the cheese!). Dinner was tasty and just right portion sizes (not too much, so there was always space for the delicious desserts). The waiting staff at the restaurant were lovely. Rooms were tidy and spacious, no issues with the bed. Would definitely go again, and highly recommend.

Our 5-night stay at The SportHotel was incredible. My husband and I came to cross-country ski. The location was perfect: we rented equipment nearby and walked to the ski trails, then took train back using complementarytrain/bus pass for people staying 3+ nights. Shopping & many restaurants a 5 minute walk. The building was beautiful inside and out. Artwork both modern and traditional, many period details, and comfy updates: detailed wrought-iron stair railings on the elegant staircase, antique furniture pieces on display, historic photos, contemporary sand-etched wall art in the dining room, fresh flowers & fruit all gave it a historic-modern Swiss ambience. Tidy & organized equipment storage area on lower level w convenient access. |The room was spacious, private, quiet with a beautiful view through 2 large windows w little balcony. Staff cheerfully & promptly provided our requests for extra pillows & blankets. Laundry service provided: fill a mesh bag & drop in bin near equipment room by 8pm, pick up after 8am. |I could write 300 words about the Breakfast. Elegant, varied, fresh, huge buffet of fruit, hot & cold cereals, toppings, nuts, yogurts, eggs, bacon, cheeses served around spacious circlular serving station w side table fullof fresh breads, attentive & pleasant uniformed wait staff. |Mixer opportunities w other guests. Driver/maintenance/cleaning staff very hard-working and esp. appreciated. Thank you, thank you!
