"Film Festivals At The Old Embassy This beautiful 1920s colonial-style home was once home to the American consulate and later embassy until diplomatic ties were severed in 1979. The stately residence has been revived though and today is home to one of the most innovative theaters in Taipei, SPOT–the Taipei Film House. Forget the blockbusters, SPOT specializes in unique, obscure and hard to find films which they show every day of the week. More than just great flicks, there is also a cafe and small shop featuring film related books and merchandise. For a true art house experience, be sure to catch one of the many film festivals hosted at SPOT."

Spot - Taipei Film House is a stunning blend of Western elegance and cinematic charm. Its white-walled façade and graceful Greek-style columns encircle a grand central staircase, creating a timeless atmosphere. Once a historic building, it now thrives as a vibrant cultural hub celebrating film. Inside, you’ll find an intimate cinema, a thoughtful art gallery, a cozy restaurant, and a bookstore filled with treasures on cinema and urban life—a true haven for movie and culture lovers.

On a nice day, I was looking for a spot around Zhongshan where I could sit outdoors and enjoy a hot coffee. This place ended up being one of my choices. To be honest, I love the setting—it’s located inside an old house and right next to a movie theater. The coffee isn’t bad, but it could be better (it’s a bit too bitter for my taste). Otherwise, this place would be perfect!

Terrific selection of old art films! Very friendly staff and comfortable classic cinema setup. A refuge for those who wish to steer clear of commercial movie theatres. It’s also got a scenic outdoor arena and a nice little cafe upstairs.

The premises is dreamy and beautifully decorated. Wonderful independent arthouse film site, with a specially curated film selection. The cafe is gorgeous, during day and night. Visit to support them!

Amazing little film house in the heart of Zhongshan District. Beautiful old building with a cafe and gift shop. The theatre itself is very small and there's only one viewing room, but it's comfortable and is a great viewing experience.

This house was used by US ambassador’s private house. It is now known as famous spot for film lover. Someone who look for local gems also find good souvenir made by local artists. There is a social bar in the 2nd floor open till late night.

Trendy department store with food court in basement. Lots of tiny and trendy shops/restaurant nearby. Lots local people hanging out. If you want to walk around like locals do. Come hungry and explore. First photo is taken from food court in this building. Walk nearby to explore building preserved from 1931. Some convert to temple, some to trendy coffee shop, hair salon, eatery, and fashion store. pls give me thumbs up 👍if u like my review. 別忘了幫我👍

This is quite an interesting place - not just because of its history (it used to be the US embassy in ROC, until the US recognized PRC as representative of China and the Americans had to abandon the building), or the good cinema. There is a great café as well as a souvenir shop with beautiful Taiwanese design products. Definitely one of the places to visit while you are in Taipei!

Yelp
It's a special place and unique coffee shop. Not only it offers nice cup of coffee but also the little movie theatre it attached to it. Not sure about the service staff though. It also hard to have calm and cool conversation when the neighboring loud customers. That's probably the only two down points. Cheese cake was quite nice. I always enjoyed watching movie next door. Some fond memories here;)

Yelp
[TIP] Get an annual membership for the arthouse cinema! Gorgeous historical landmark that was once the residence of American diplomat in Taiwan. I love the outdoor garden seating for cooler evenings, or to relax with a book on the 2F balcony. The lounge / meeting room is available for rental, and I've attended a few World Design Capital Taipei events here. Check-in regularly for indie / arthouse film schedule!
