Nebraska Is the Perfect Fall Wildflower Destination

"I recommend visiting in the fall to see the sunflowers that really steal the show amid Nebraska's vibrant prairie wildflowers—prairie clover, goldenrods, and asters—and to use its scenic trails for a rewarding flower walk." - Iona Brannon Iona Brannon Iona Brannon is a journalist with a love for food and travel. Wow! What a gorgeous area, well worth the drive from Lincoln and beyond! Rolling hills, trails, and beautiful skyline await your experience. Plenty of parking on a gravel lot.

Great little educational center and gift shop with art exhibit, all dedicated to learning more about the prairie. Thank you to Amy who gave us an excellent 1.5 hr tour of the trails and pointed out elements of the native ecology and historic landscape

Gorgeous area full of wildlife and pollinators. Water accessible for adults, kids, and furbabies, however, the main trails appear to not allow dogs. The trails north(?) of the main building off the parking lot do. Cute picnic area behind the nature center. There are many learning opportunities for kids and adults alike in the nature center. They also have programs for kids and adults throughout the season!

This place has a lot of beauty with trails through the prairie. The path also leads to a marshy area that has unique birds. I enjoyed this experience very much. I didn't give it 5 stars due to the visitor center being closed on our Sunday afternoon visit, and also the signs directing you on the road have small print making it tricky to read.

Such a charming place. Good for a chilly day and a short hike. Cute visitor center with super friendly staff and the best gift shop I’ve ever seen at this type of facility. We visited on a winter’s day, I look forward to coming back in the summer!

This place was well worth diverting from the highway to enjoy a short hike and take in some birdwatching. Though it was late in the afternoon and winds were high, still managed to spot 3 new lifers and many more spottings to boot. Unfortunately it was closed when I arrived, but I was happy to see full access to the trails.

Always a good walk on their trails. You can either start steep and work your way downhill or start level and work to the steep end. Lots of bird life and variety of prarie plants. A small area of trees. There's a little bridge over a pond with lots of bullfrogs, some turtles, and small pond animals. We even spotted a Great Blue Heron on our most recent visit. Visitor center is nice and clean. There is an outdoor "restroom" for off hours and a drinking fountain also outdoors.

Yelp
Spring Creek Prairie is a beautiful place to go hiking and also learn about prairie flora and fauna. The Mission: The National Audubon Society protects birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center focuses on conservation of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem and the birds that rely on it. The trails are fairly easy to navigate and are open seven days a week from sun up to sun down, even if the visitors center is closed. The visitor center has bathrooms, often a necessity when children are involved. Besides nature displays, the visitor center also has a small gift shop with lots of books, apparel and other gifts. There are some accessible trails, but most are not. It's a beautiful place to appreciate the prairie- a rarity these days.

Yelp
Visited on a warm Saturday morning, nearly had the place to ourselves! The actual center is a hay bales and stucco building with a nice small gift shop, nice but pretty open hands on area, 'what did you see' board, and so on- all pretty consistent with a small nature center. The person working the desk was very nice and helpful, made sure we had binoculars (even loaned us some to save a trip back to the car), and discussed the lands and trails with enthusiasm. I did not hit the trails, but my wife did and saw the Oregon Trail ruts, deer, lots of birds, and more. She loved the mowed trails, although would have liked a little more help keeping track of where she was or what she was seeing on the trail. Great value and experience for a mere $4 per adult! (Free on Tuesdays.)
