Yelp
A chain establishment (or at least two locations within York's city walls), although from the outside you wouldn't be able to tell.
I was initially drawn in from the emphasis on espresso and coffee, having been searching for a place to serve my coffee withdrawals. Sadly, Spring would not do the trick.
I ordered a macchiato. Service was decent given how crowded the establishment was, and I got my drink in a reasonable time. However, that's where the praise ends.
Having ordered my drink to go, I didn't linger upon being handed my drink. Mistake #1. The drink was HOT. So hot, that I couldn't even hold it in my hands for more than a few seconds. I kept having to switch hands so I wouldn't drop the coffee or get burned. The drink was handed to me without a sleeve, which definitely contributed to the difficulty in holding it.
Think I'm exaggerating? I eventually had to head back to the store to actually ask for another cup to allow for some insulation. The baristas were quite rude about me asking for another cup, which is shocking given that the high temperature is a sign of a bad cup of coffee...
Overall, even after waiting a while for it to cool, the drink still burned my mouth. Rest assured, I didn't go back the rest of my trip. Even if you specialize in coffee, it doesn't mean you should.
