While the collections are impressive, improved lighting, clearer labeling, and more modern display techniques could make the experience even better. Decent place to visit. Away from the hustle and bustle of Srinagar's main city, this spot is ideal for those who enjoy watching artifacts, old coins, and historical relics. However, I wish they maintained it a bit better. Many exhibits had their lights switched off, making it hard to read the descriptions. Perhaps it was due to an event and staff were occupied. Overall, a good place for history buffs. The taxidermy section was my favorite.

SPS Museum is a great place to explore the rich history, culture, and art of Kashmir. The exhibits provide a detailed insight into various generations and their traditions, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The entry ticket is very affordable at just ₹20. However, if you want to take photos, there’s an additional charge of ₹260, and for videos, it’s around ₹1000. Despite the extra cost for photography, the museum offers a valuable experience and is definitely worth a visit!

Nice museum, you can go through two thousand years of the history, culture and heritage of Jammu,kashmir and ladakh. Display of different sections of the museum to be opened to the common people. The publicity of the museum , art and craft museum among the common people is to be done.

We ventured into this museum completely out of our own curiosity. However, we were thoroughly impressed by the collection of this museum. The state and tourism department must promote this museum as a must visit place in Srinagar. I’d think knowing history of the region will help any tourist’s experience in the valley much more enjoyable. Right on the bank of Jhelum, this museum is huge, but lacks few basic amenities. When we arrived, there was a power cut, and there was no power backup. All the galleries were almost dark and we had use our own torchlight to visit the galleries. Our luck - just when we were about to leave, power was restored and we had the opportunity to visit the archeology section. This was one of the best archeology galleries of this country. The documentation could be slightly better. The restrooms are barely usable. No coffee shop or museum shop. They charge nominal fees for taking photo and video is each of the galleries.

Must visit here. Free parking space available for all type of vehicles. Ground floor is full of ancient idols of Hindu religion. These are recovered from many places of kashmir and preserved here. Many ancient Buddha idols preserved. Reception area are well decorated and sofa available for resting purpose. 200/- charge for photography. Only 10/- for entry for local.
