While in town for a meeting, we went wandering from our hotel to see what options existed in the area. Squatters from the outside looked like a friendly and inviting opportunity and we could preview their offerings from their menu posted doorside.
Upon entering we were transported to an extremely lively environment one in which we would have waited quite a while to be seated. Instead, we opted for the last 2 chairs at the very end of the bar. At that end of the room, was a lovely outside patio that would be our first choice should we return (and weather permitting) as it would have been at least 20 db's quieter. But after all is said and done, the atmosphere of the place was conducive to fun and groups definitely were enjoying ourselves, as we were about to experience.
Before I get to the meat (yes, pun intended) of this review, let me share a few thoughts about the staff. Sitting at the bar gave us a birds eye view of the kitchen and the wait staff prepping, interacting and delivering service to patrons. Truly impressive is how I describe the scene, almost making the routine of work in the hospitality industry into a floor show, or art performance. The staff all performed incredibly well, performing small tasks that prepped for the execution of delivery and backing each other up. The interaction between server and cooks was entertaining and it felt like they all liked each other. Truly impressive.
As the name states, the brewery does deliver. From the Hop Rising to the Outer Darkness the flavors and consistency of these offerings was terrific. So was the food. The options for selections are large, so there is something for everyone. Our choices for the visit included the quinoa and arugla salad and the bacon topped meatloaf (sans the bacon as I don't do pork). The salad was much more than we expected, a meal in of itself, with a variety of toppings in addition to the main ingredients. The meatloaf was cooked perfectly, a thick piece of ground chuck with nice asparagus stalks, perfectly cooked, neither over or underdone atop a large portion of mashed potatoes. The load was drizzled with gravy and topped by freshly fried onion straws.
We also had wanted to try the pub pretzel, but as you can imagine, we had PLENTY of good food already; so our next trip will begin with that as a must do!
