10 Best Places for Fado Music in Lisbon | Condé Nast Traveler

"There are only nine tables at Sr. Fado de Alfama, a hole-in-the-wall fado restaurant in Alfama, so make sure you book in advance. It's a prix-fixe menu, and owners Ana Marina and Duarte Santos bring out your food. As soon as dinner hits the table, they'll transform from servers into performers—it's really a two-person show here. There's plenty of fado in Lisbon, but very few places still have such a homey, salt-of-the-earth feel, and the owners' hospitality really transforms the experience." - Todd Plummer

Wow what an experience!! Sr. Fado certainly exceeded expectations. Great food, friends, and fado! Music was amazing as were the beautiful voices and incredible acoustic accompaniment. We certainly left full—both our stomachs and our hearts. 100% recommend!

What a night we had at Sr. Fado! Though it's been 2 weeks since our amazing night, my friends and I are still talking about it. Portuguese Fado really touched the soul and the performers were incredible! We ordered seafood and the portion was generous! It was such a delicious meal! The service was excellent! Everyone was really friendly and made us welcomed 😁 at the end of the night we were lucky to have a chat with the staff and the singer, even got to strum some guitar! What can I say? If you are looking for an unforgettable Fado night in Lisbon, don't look further! Just go to Sr. Fado and you will not regret! Thank you everyone at Sr. Fado for a wonderful night!

This is it. The ultimate Fado experience. Sr. Fado delivers the best Fado music in Lisbon—raw, emotional, and breathtakingly authentic. The Portuguese food is the perfect, delicious companion to the profound music. Simply the best Fado ever. An unforgettable night.

I really, really loved this place. The staff did a great job making sure you were well attended to, food was out quick and tasty. My favorite was the pork, the cilantro really set off the flavors. Highlight of the night, of course, was the fado. There were times when I had legitimate goosebumps because of the power and emotion coming through the music, especially when both woman and man sung together. The atmosphere was intimate, performers during breaks were taking the time to speak to guests as a group and even individually. I will say that most people rolled in between 8 and 8:30 and we were done by 10:30-11pm. There was a group of people talking at times during the performance and the fado singers had to literally shush them haha. I really appreciated that they stood up for themselves here, it really added to the experience. It felt more like they were there to share their culture with us, versus putting on a performance because we paid for it. I can say that this place will be one of the highlights of my trip here to Lisbon. Even our taxi driver who has been living in lisbon for 40+ years said this place was good which says a lot to me.

If you’re seeking an authentic, intimate fado experience in Lisbon, Sr. Fado de Alfama is a must-visit. Nestled in the heart of the Alfama district, this family-run restaurant offers more than just a meal; it provides an immersive journey into Portuguese culture. The evening begins with a warm welcome from owners Ana Marina and Duarte Santos, who serve traditional Portuguese dishes with a personal touch. The menu is prix-fixe, featuring hearty options like a seafood cataplana brimming with shrimp, mussels, and clams. A Magical Fado Experience The Fado singer poured her soul into every note, her voice weaving stories of longing, love, and saudade that gripped the entire room. The performance, backed by talented guitarists, created a powerful and intimate atmosphere that had the whole room captivated. The cozy, rustic decor and warm lighting made it feel like a heartfelt gathering rather than just dinner out. The food was authentic and delicious, perfectly paired with excellent wine. If you’re looking for a soulful night of music and traditional flavors, this place is a must. Truly unforgettable.

Lovely evening of food and music. Welcoming atmosphere and beautiful Fado performance. A somewhat touristy experience with a set meal where everyone eats at the same time (we even arrived to starter platter ready on the table which was a little unusual) - food was good, not brilliant, but the overall experience was worth it!
