"The striking neo-Gothic St. Andrew’s Cathedral, just behind the Padang on a generous plot of land, was built by convict labor from India, with the first service held in 1861. It was the second incarnation of this Anglican church (the first was built in the 1830s and boasted a bell from Paul Revere’s foundry in Boston ). The bright-white exteriors of St. Andrew’s come from its finish of Madras chunam, a plaster made from a mixture of egg whites, shell lime, and sugar. Don’t leave until you see the three magnificent stained-glass windows in the apse, one of which is dedicated to Stamford Raffles."

Hadn’t expected to find a perfectly white painted cathedral amongst the modern buildings of Singapore but that was exactly what we discovered. Inside it is a modest design not overly ornate but that’s what I think makes it quite special. It was really nice to walk around hear the story of how it was built. Worthy of a visit and free to enter.

What a very handsome cathedral in the middle of Singapore. It has a long history of the British colonial period and is well loved and used today. Extremely lovely cathedral staff ready to fill you in on its legacy and history. The grass in front of the cathedral protected by its heritage .. must be land worth a fortune!!

St Andrew’s Cathedral is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Singapore with stunning Gothic architecture and beautiful stained glass windows. Easy to access from City Hall MRT, it’s perfect for a short visit or quiet reflection. A must-see historical landmark downtown

Beautiful church interestingly without the typical maximalist ornamentation of a western-style cathedral. They kindly greeted me at the entrance and really wanted me to be accompanied by one of their volunteer guides. This was not something I desired. This was not something I did. Beautiful grounds as well I think

Architecturally not remarkable but I guess a quiet place for prayer and contemplation is needed in the middle of the hectic metropolis. Funnily the building stands in the middle of gated green lawn so it doesn’t have any role in the urban life of the surroundings. A total opposite of Italian churches for example.

i must admit all my previous encounters were either wandering around just beyond the boundary fencing or those odd chance of sneaking in during my pokemon go gyming days! never actually had the chance of catching a glimpse within the cathedral, until today! and it's also mainly due to their long period of refurbishment and then a wedding invitation later, that i finally get to venture in. wow, a great place of worship for sure but also such a great venue for weddings! historical, classical, majestic yet intimate enough for that special day for many. the acoustics well rounded with video screens strategically adorned on walls behind pillars which might otherwise block direct line of sight of the pulpit from the pew. easy access via city hall mrt station, sheltered from the elements. paid parking available on site but can be challenging on worship days. nevertheless, plentiful paid parking options surrounds! a multi purpose 'pavilion' hall just outside the cathedral also serves as a place for hospitality receptions. still can't quite compare with the liverpool cathedral that I had the chance of visiting during my recent uk road trip but nonetheless a great central option for anyone considering a white wedding!

Beautiful inside. Organist good, without embellishment. Fine 21st century video displays. English rector awful. Unpacking of gospel rudimentary, delivery bland, scolded ushers mid-sermon, stopped twice to look at his wristwatch. All this on Easter? Pathetic.

Downtown, in the middle of all the scyscrapers, you can find this nice neo gothic church. It is a little bit bizarre to find a building like this one between the big bank buildings, but I really like this opposite. From the nice green garden around the church you also have a good view to the giant wheel and the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Unfortunatily I did not have the chance to have a look inside, because there were some kind of official thing inside the day I passed by. Anyways one of the points you have to visit in Singapore I think.

Located in the heart of the city but on weekdays this is one of the most peaceful place you can find away from the bustle and hustle, the crowd and noise just by stepping within its gates. You don't need to be a Christian (and I'm not) to enjoy the serenity of this place. It's a fantastic place to have a picnic during lunch on weekdays and it you are lucky, the organist will be practicing and a free lunch time concert to go with your lunch, free. One of the best kept secrets in town and it's right beside the mrt exit. If you ever step into the grand dame, look closely at the stained glass centerpiece behind the altar and you may find the family crest of Sir Stamford Raffles.

Very pretty cathedral, the largest church in Singapore. The stained glass and blue walls are quite picturesque and fit perfectly with the warmth and tropical vibe of Singapore. It gets a bit warm in here with only fans, but the stone at least stays cool. Cool site to explore in Singapore.
