St Andrews Restaurant & Takeaway

Heard lots of greats things before my visit, mostly about their fish and chips. I do like to find an excellent finsh and chips spot when visiting the seaside, so was looking forward to visiting. Service was excellent and we were seated immediately. It's a cosy place with a standard decor. Ordered fish and chips, with a few sides. Food tasted great and had a reasonable selection of fish options. Enjoyed the food, but giving 4 stars as perhaps people hyped this up a little too much for me, as I was expecting some signature item or really amazing food. I would recommend this place.

Due to their "suppliers" not sure if it's 3rd party or not but it is giving a service to your business risking public health in way of PARKING in a bus stop with no room to allow the public to attract a bus attention forcing ME to move into the road area to do so! Makes YOU accountable for any RTA incidents!

Good food at a reasonable price. We sat down and were the only ones in the place, but that's because it was an off time. The server was attentive and polite. Their menu has a nice mix of Scottish, Seafood, and Italian dishes. A nice menu option is that you can mix and match a 1/2 pizza and 1/2 pasta. All of the food came out hot and fresh.

A very nice fish and chips restaurant / takeaway in Portobello. They also cater for gluten-free, which was helpful. Staff friendly and welcoming .

Really fantastic. We didn't know the place and were simply having a walk around Portobello on a warm late summers evening. We strolled in and ordered fish and chips. It was delicious, the service was absolutely excellent, particularly the young lady whose name I didn't catch but served our table, and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. We would recommend it and will go again if we are in the area.

Visited with my mum who has dementia. Food was delicious - we had the small haddock and chips which was the perfect size for my mum, and the mussels which were amazing. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive. Thank you so much for a great experience. Would thoroughly recommend.

The food was amazing, would definitely recommend if you want to have a good meal from good people. Staff were very careful and accommodating with our dietary requirements and helped check the ingredients of all the dishes we ordered. Also, their hot fudge chocolate cake was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Could not recommend it more. The cake was moist, not too sweet, and flooded in fudge - the perfect combination. If you’re in town or hanging by the beach, definitely check this place out! 😋

A must have for those who are craving for fish and chips in Portobello! Great food, great ambience, superb service. Waiter was very attentive and helpful. Their fish and chips were scrumptious and goes well with all the sauces. Big portion for their price too. They do serve half portion for those who don't eat that much, and gluten-free version too. Pizza was chef's kiss too. Had the Del Marie pizza and the seafood are fresh. Definitely recommended!

Very disappointed with last fish and chip orders, not fresh and l once lived 5 mns from here and did go there for my family as a treat, but when have ordered online, fish wasn't fresh, very dry and not the same, so thought was a one off , sadly fish and chips not good . Have sat in the restaurant had lovely fresh fish, so hopefully things will improve , but for now will be giving this place a miss and l thought was one the best in the area., just a waste of money, sorry but not the same . Can't be delivering dried out fish to regular customers.

Best chips I've had in Edinburgh. A great place, close to the beach so you can order some takeout and walk over to the beach within 2 minutes and eat it there for a nice, scenic meal! Quick service, and affordable too!

Has a large take out section and the actual restaurant is a bit smaller to the side. Went there one evening for dinner and my wife and I ordered some seafood dinners while my son ordered a pepperoni pizza. The mussels I had as an appetizer were plentiful and delicious and the seafood linguini I had was a good size portion but rather plain tasting. My wife had a salmon pasta dish and it was plentiful but ordinary as well. A nice place to come and have a relaxing dinner and stroll along the boardwalk.

With St Andrew's there are two section' one for the takeaway's and the other as a sit in restaurant. The restaurant area looks more like a country pub look to it with wooden beams on the ceiling and chairs that look as they have come from a Greek restaurant. It was the specials board that tempted us in £6.90 for a set meal was a steal. Even though the place may have smelt clean there where dead fly's in the window. On second visit I was told that fresh fish would take 20 minutes to cook, the guy obviously was not a chef or cook. The end product was over cooked and in edible fish, from a four star recommendation now to a two star, very poor service.

Don't be fooled, you may think that this is just an Italian restaurant, but it also does a mean fish and chips. I haven't actually tried any of the Italian options on their menu, so this may be something I have to do seeing as their fish and chips have been so good. Earlier this year, I went to Anstruther Fish Bar, one of the best fish and chips in the country, and after than I thought that there would be no where that could top it. To be fair, St Andrews didn't, but it came mightily close considering it doesn't even specialise in haddock and chips. The chips are lovely and chunky and hardly greasy at all and the haddock was lovely and tender and the batter very crispy. What's more is that it is pretty cheap for the quality that you get and it only costs £5 and for an extra 90p you get a side of salad and peas. The decor of the restaurant itself is great and very spacious and it actually looks quite posh, despite the very reasonable prices!

Excellent little fish and chips /Italian place. Stop in for afternoon tea. It's a great price and a great meal. Left me comfortably full and tasted great. If you go to Portobello be sure to stop here !

Ordered a pizza from you and got it delivered cold after 1std.20 minutes. I called and got the answer, I'm waiting for a driver. The Customer Support did not apologize as if it were normal. The pizza was so badly done that I put it in the garbage. The meat was anything but not to eat. I know that you can get yourself complaints but never get an answer despite reporting. And only good reviews are posted that make them visible on their website. I can recommend another pizzeria, but it is this and it was very bad and would never recommend it. I at least want an apology or an answer to her side, which, as I said, has not happened since the 13.3.2019. I guess the reviews are written here themselves. All customers finger away.

St Andrews is a favourite for fish and chips and pizza. Fish is always super fresh with epic batter, good chips and extra broon sauce available :-) pizzas have a nice authentic base from the wood fired oven, would suggest create your own, there's an excellent range of quality toppings. Better than favorita!

St Andrews is a fairly standard Italian takeaway and restaurant offering the usual pizzas, fish suppers etc on the front counter. The restaurant is ok but is fairly quiet and slow, to the extent my girlfriend once wanted a steak and was asked if she would be willing to wait for it to defrost. The takeaway is good, however, and probably one of the best fish suppers in Portobello

This is a bit of an institution having been there for as long as anyone I know remembers. It's not the sort of place you would cross town to get to, but that doesn't make it bad at what it is. As a local restaurant it is friendly and reasonable. An ideal place to take your family without worrying about getting in the way or a good spot for a more expanded family meal. The chippy is best enjoyed on a cold evening on route home from the baths.
